A Dragon's Heart

Starshine Sparkle gave out a heavy sigh, studying is harder than it looked.

She used her magic to brush her tangled waved mane, her tired eyes staring at a thick leathered book.

Tired eyes gazed at a old family photo, cream fur, dark green eyes and dark purple mane. Herself as a filly.

Nearby her is another unicorn, but an adult...a male in-fact. Dark blue mane, purple eyes and yellow coat and a goatee. Her father...

Lastly but not least right next to her right is a female earth pony. With a dark blue coat with white tiger like markings on her face and black hair that is tied into a bun that has a blossom-pink rose. Her mother...

Starshine floated the picture towards her and put a hoof onto it with a sad smile.

But the sound of a door being knocked made the unicorn mare snap out of her thoughts, quickly turning her head to meet a filly's gaze.

"Mommy...are you ok?" She wiped a tear hoping her daughter won't see it, "Yes I'm fine sweetie, wheres your brother and sister?"

"They went to spend time with their friends so I decide to stay here" Her smile...her sweet innocent smile, it's the only thing that will light up even the darkest of times.

"But mom I know your sad I can tell by that glum look on your face, whats the matter" The light-colored unicorn tensed up, she's right even though for such a young unicorn filly she can sometimes read minds as if it's her special talent. Yet she hasn't found her cutie mark.

"W-Well mommy just misses grandma and grandpa" She said with a nervous smile, the dark-brown filly trotted to a book.

"What's this?" She asked using her magic to make the book float towards her in confusion moving her one ear.

Starshine Sparkle looked at it in shock but smiled, "It's a story that I used to love reading long time ago Evening Star."

"Can you read it to me? PLEEASE? I will wash the dashes for a week!" She giggled at the filly, "Alright Alright" she kindly grabbed the book with her magic and sat on the floor with her front hooves crossed.

"Ahem, Long Long ago..."

In the magical land of Equestria, there was peace, love and tranquility.

Bright colored floras and trotting hooves of ponies.

Everything was perfect...until one day...

The air then started to be filled with dark clouds, ashes rising from the sky, the air turns into dark toxic smoke.

Gigantic creatures rose from their deepest slumbers, skin as hard as armor, teeth and claws sharp as daggers, and piercing eyes that stare into your souls.

They are fifty-feet high, with fire as hot as the sun itself. These creatures were known as Dragons, powerful animals that were said that they came from Tartarus but where they were orginally made is unknown.

Different species rose against each other and fought, blood stained teeth, claws, arrows and swords.

They often fight someway far from each others' homes so each wont get destroyed.

But sadly, though dragon slayers often come to the dragons' homes and raid eggs or smash them to prevent the population from growing.

Which is why number of dragons go down low each day after day, year after year, months after months...

The whole world is nothing but filled with terror and there will be no hope for them...

But a certain pegasus thinks that there is still hope...how to end this war...
