"So...Peter Page turner; comic book geek of Canterlot high who thawed out the stuffy snob Twilght sparkle, and convinced her to add comics to the school libary. What brings you to my humble abode tonight huh?" You ask the young adult sitting beside you in the red arm chair as the air conditioner cools you both. You're both just hanging out as the sun starts to set over the suburban landscape. a few pizzas sit still somewhat warm in their boxes on the night table. Peter's occupied at the tv browsing for something to watch, while your at the gaming rig. Currently second place in a free for all deathmatch just below some streamer with the name DJ Vetern child's EX.
"You'd only have the streamers and the podcasts for company if i hadn't stopped by and you know it" He says smirking as he lounges around watching tv and eating." His words are not as reasuring as he intends fo them to be. They only make you think of the last time you were with someone who wasn't trying to blow you up with an s-mine while calling you a moron for walking on it. The last time you saw...Tavi.
"Yeah yeah whatever, listen I need quiet, it's crunch time and if can just HA OH FUCK YEAH!" You say in triumph taking a sip of ice cold cola from a straw as your fingers work the controler and send the player Shimmer cove to fifth place. "Oh yeah out of the winners circle bi....bii.mmhmhm nothing." You say with a nervous chuckle as as Turner gives a lookthat says 'seriously?' "Look I'm trying NOT to embody the sterotypical stay at home gamer but...OH I can't explain it. It's like when a great white shark smells blood and then sinks its teeth into seal flesh. Or a wolf picks up the scent of a hare hiding in the snow thinking its safe. The primal thril of the hunt reborn into a new form but the old lust for blood and kills just under the surface."
"Hey you do you bro but remember it's just a."
"Hey Pete I feel bad enough as it is..don't ruin this for me." The air chilly as the both of you are alone in the room, the television on the dresser flashing wordlessly without sound and more for ambiance.
"I wasn't trying too, all I'm saying is you just gotta learn that there's somethings in life you can't let control you or you may end up becoming someone or...something you'd never want to be.'' His words cut like a knife, You don't even realize that you're a sleeping dog. Not moving which means the final kill goes to the player in dead last, Shygal99 and she's even typing sorry to you over and over in the chat bar, and you're fairly certain she actually means it. The room you and turner inhabit reeks of laundry left to pile up and pizza grease dried on the table. It's not a total pigsty persay it just..could use some spring cleaning is all. Plus taking down the posters of nearly naked anime cat girls and action movies couldn't hurt. Especially if you wanted to bring a girl like Octavia here.
You're knocked out of this sudden realization when the phone by your desk rings, the shrill noise of the ancient white landline briefly spooking you both. You tell Turner to hold on while take the call.
"Hello?" You ask as you roll your eyes at just much of a disater the place is and yyou hope that of all the people who could be calling you now you just hope it isn't...
"Hello..Anon Darling? Is this a bad time?" A familiar voice says on the other end and your heart skips a few beats. Damn it, It's Octavia the girl of your dreams. ok ok it's only seven thirty and she probably only want to talk still. What do you say if she asks to come over and see you? Sorry hunny but my bedroom looks like a college freshmen dorm? She's been the best girlfriend you could have ever asked for. You'd do anything to spend time with her, museums; the theater and the concert halls. Only the best for a refined and elegant girl like her. Right now nothing about you from your brutish behavior to how unkempt everything is shows you deserve her at all.
"Oh Octi Hi!" You say with excitement as you think about her on the other end, you're both still a loving couple, with a hint of a naughty side now and then. You hold your playful nature in check due to company being present, but you just got play it cool. "What's up octi?" You ask her as you hear the sounds of a car wherever she is. "Hey you're not driving are you?" You ask her on the phone.
"You're such a caring boyfriend,'' she says giving another girlish little giggle. Octavia's always so damn cute when she does the little things like that. "But no I'm not driving myself at least, not at all. I'm actually out with my Uncle Albert getting a lift over to your house to see you." She says with a soft giggle; your heart sinks and practically stops beating then and there. Normally your house is okay on a good day, but your room smells of cheap pizza and there are soda cans everywhere, plus you haven't taken your laundry down to the basement in a while as evidenced by the full hamper by the closet. You're not a slob even at the worst of times, you just have a tendency to let things go a little astray now and then.
"Really? You're heading here...Right now Octi? Gee I know it's still kinda early in the evening, but I haven't really got the place in order for guests...girl guests anyways." you say eyeing Peter as he helps himself to a slice of olive and extra cheese pizza, scarfing it down nosily. If Octavia was there at that moment, being the prim and proper type, she'd scold him for making such a pig of himself. Octavia giggles on the other end of the line.
"Heh actually darling, I was wondering if you'd like to...go out tonight with me. To...a little social a friend of mine said she'd be hosting." She says with a soft girlish giggle. Your eyes go wide not from fear this time, but in excitement as you're this close to replying and hanging up to try on outfits. "Was wondering if you'd fancy a... get together at a social club this evening." Her words make the images of an orchestra playing, the evening akin to the grand galloping gala...the celebration thrown for the winner of the Canterlot City derby, especially if its the one Principal Celestia and her sister sponsor. The upper class finery, the elegance and sophistication. How could you pass that up?
"I'll be right down!" You say as you dart into your closet and flick the light on as you shut the door. You dig through your clothes; first it's a white shirt with a bow-tie and slacks, then a red polo with khakis and tennis shoes, then you settle for a white shirt, black tie and a pinstriped jacket and pants with your best penny loafers and white spats. You put a black top hat on your head and grab a dragon headed cane and emerge from the closet to the pizza eating Pete. He's still your friend, but you wished he'd also practice a little self control every now and then.
"Whoa dude! Looking sharp! What did Octavia say to you?" He asks with a mouthful of melty cheese. You chuckle and softly tap his head with your cane. You don't mean to hurt him, you just...feel like humoring him.
"Oh Peter...Peter dear chap." You say with a hint of Southampton in your voice. "Someday you'll be mature enough to know the perks of high class socialization." You chuckle as you head downstairs, He's in tow holding the pizza box. "Don't you have your own home to go to and make an uncouth pig of yourself at Peter?" You ask scoffing as you adjust your bow-tie. He chuckles and gathers up his Red Hood gear and the pizza box. You both start to head out through your house to the front door for Octavia.
"Huh? Sure whatever man, just lemme get one more soda for the road?" He asks handing you a slice which you politely decline not wanting to spoil your appetite for hors d'oeuvres ...Hey you still up for the class summer camping trip to Camp Everfree?" He asks as he digs through the fridge for another soda as he finishes the last slice from the box.
" You know it..though why the school would be sponsoring a trip to a summer camp after the younger campers have left it.
"I think it's something to do with..eh....I got nothing, I just can't wait to get up there and get some fresh air. I hope they don't split me and Dashie up though. I'd love going hiking with her." He says with a longing tone and gaze. You can only share his sentiment think of your own dream girl who's drawing ever closer, the lead chair cellist to your viola, Octavia Melody.
"See ya Pete, and...thanks for the reality check. As soon I get home I'm gonna start fresh and new, clean my bed room maybe have all my best clothes dry cleaned, and of course stop taking those damn, ahhh heyy Tavi!" You flag down the car coming , "You know....despite my snark, you're always welcome to chill at my place and get a bite to eat whenever you need it okay good buddy"? You say with your attitude softening just as they pull up.
"Thanks dude." He says with a smile as he leaves for home in one direction, a pair of car's headlights from a fine Rolls Royce, approaches down the street in the other. It's not a limo Rolls, but damn is it a sweet ride. You give your tie one final tug as the car pulls in and the familiar grey girl rolls down a window and smiles at you when she sees you. Octavia Melody; apple of your eye, and cream in your coffee.
"Good evening Anon." She says as you reach into the car and take her hand, delivering a respectable kiss to it as the chauffeur gets out and opens the side passenger door for you, you feel like this will be the best night ever.
The Rolls' engine purrs like a Bengal tiger as you and Octavia ride in the backseat, either the car has no privacy partition or the driver refuses to close it. He's an old gentlemanly type, his hairs around the edges are graying a bit, and he has a bit of a mustache on his upper lip. Your mind instantly makes you think of the old mascot for Ask. "So how are you tonight good sir?" You ask as Octavia opens a slot built into the side door of the car, there's a hiss of liquid nitrogen coolant as she procures a can of Coke with perfectly frozen ice crystals on the sides. Amazingly the soda itself is not frozen in spite of this.
"Just dandy Master Anon, Though i kindly ask you keep your conversations with me to a minimum as I am driving." He says as the car starts driving away from the bright lights of the town square. It's no Times Square, most of the buildings go up to a the tens in terms of stories. The car leaves them as it turns down the fish district. Named as its where the warehouses and the wharves used by the fishermen and their boats often come in to store and sell their catch. You wonder why Octavia would have her driver taking you through it in the middle of the night when there's nothing open and no one around. The rain pelts the car and not even the smooth jazz coming from the radio can muffle as Albert pulls into a parking lot with the engine still idling.
"Thank's for the lift Uncle Albert." Octavia says happily as she checks her purse to be sure she has everything."
You asks as you take in the details of the lot that he's driven to, odd thing to note. The cars that are parked do not look like the kinds a high class social would have. Instead of limos and Lamborghini's, its mostly vans and a few beat up sedans that have seen better days. A lot of the vans have strange designs painted on the sides, like graffiti you see on the walls downtown. The one that stands out from them all is the white convertible with the roof closed. It's got a clef treble on one side and a purple highlighting detail. The hood ornament is a silver unicorn with headphones on her ears...why does it seem so familiar?
"Mmmhmmm this is my uncle Albert, I can always count on him." She gives him a hug and a soft kiss on his cheek as he pops the locks on the car. The older gentlemen chuckles softly and gives you both a courteous tip of his cap as you both step out.
"Are you sure you don't need me to pick you up after the...social?" He says as she shakes her head as you and her both head out into the rain. The puddles spray as your shoes hit the rain soaked pavement, the steel doors to the warehouse are thankfully covered by the awnings overhead. the loading bay doors long closed up. You and Octavia stop under the awning for a brief moment to watch her uncle and the Rolls leave you both with only the party to go to.
"Octavia? You ask her as you hear a faint noise coming from inside the warehouse, it's far from any music that you'd associate with a social like the one you're anticipating. She stops and looks back at you with her big eyes shining as the rain drips from her charcoal hair. "What kinda social is this?" You ask her as she places a hand on the handle...
"A different kind." Is all she can say when she opens the steel doors. The music now fully audible, and it's not the kind for a dinner party. The entire main floor of the old warehouse has been turned into a dance floor. The guests are crammed into it while thinning out at the edges. They ones that thin out are more content to simply speak as best as they can over the music. It's nothing like the music yyou and her have perfomed as a band, it's different.
The lot of the patrons here are nothing like you and Octavia. The outfits are clearly those of full on ravers. Black body suits covered head to toe in glow sticks and necklaces around their necks. Others have those red and white top hats and ratty sweatshirts and ripped up tee shirts. You feel like clasping your hands over your ears to block out the noise. "Here? You brought me to a...a rave?" You shout to Octavia over the loud music. She nods happily un-bothered by the noise. She...must have gone to these before, she seems to be really into this music.
"I know the DJ! Come one let's get a drink and I'll take you up to meet her." She says before taking your hand and leading you to what was at one time the shipping office. The new occupants have used neon letters to spell out, "The Watering Hole." Over the window. The clerk behind the window hands two silver cans to the couple in front of you. The one in black body suits with glowing lines in them that look like Tron costumes. It doesn't take long for you realize what those silver cans are. You are feeling like you should take Octavia by the hand and lead her from this debaucherous place, then why aren't you doing that right now? Why are you just letting her lead you to the bar counter?
"Wait...Octavia...we're not old enough too..." But she shushes you with a finger to the lips. A devious look in her eyes as she has the counter behind the office room. inside you can see am industrial stainless steel fridge and several coolers all around the room. She orders two bottles of Budweiser; all american, like it was nothing. She's like danger in a blazer, a side of this girl you've never seen before...so why are you still with her and not running away like a coward?
"I think if we're old enough to call ourselves grown, then it's fair game to enjoy a bit of the bubbly, thank you Hops." She says paying for the drinks. The barkeep smiles from behind the counter and gives her a thumbs up.
"Thanks, anything for you Tavi." You and Octavia take a seat at the red metal frame chairs setting your drinks down on a wire spool on its side for a table. You take a sip and notice the music isn't as bad you thought it was, though it's changed now.
"You know that guy back there?" You ask once your'e loosened up a bit and enjoying yourself. Octavia sips her drink casually as she looks over at you before speaking.
"I know a good chunk of the people here darling. What? You'd think my only associations were the stuffed shirt blue bloods of the upper hills?" She asks with a giggle making you blush as you reply.
"Well...Kinda actually, I always thought you were the kinda girl that was one to rub shoulders with "Her Majesty" and the like. Not the glow sticks and funny hats crowd...no offense." You say to such a dancer passing by waving two sticks around.
"No offense man." You hear him say he darts away followed by what you swear is him saying..."Anyone got any E?"
"So who's this DJ you said we'd meet?" You ask as Octavia finishes her drink along with you, She tosses the bottle in the trash and takes you hand, she leads you across the dance floor. The bodies of the dancers pressed tightly into yours as they are lost in the their haze of who knows what. Octavia navigates through them all with ease to a door at the back. It leads to a rust covered metal stairwell that only seems to amply their music. When you came here with Octavia, you had visioned a tray of hors d'oeuvres at a cocktail party; French Hollandaise sauce served over asparagus, banana foster fombaies and souffles, fine baroque music like Bach and maybe something modern like smooth jazz.
Not cheap beers; dub step and club music and junk food. You wonder if the buckets of fried chicken and nasty burger wrappers are leftovers from the workers or the part goers. Yet...why does it not bother you? why haven't you asked Octavia to leave and find something more to your taste than this? Could it be that it doesn't matter so long as your with her? Granted you never took her as being into this sort of affair, but you're starting to enjoy it. Why were you so nervous about showing her your room if this was her ideal night out?
"Here...the DJ booth is right over here." She says as she stops before a door labeled foremen's office, only the word foremen has been painted over with a big red DJ. Octavia opens the door and the room's been stuffed with boxes of records and CD's. this DJ is the old fashioned type, the kind that wouldn't be caught dead with a digital system. Not that it isn't a top of the line setup she's got here. The speakers are lined up against the observation window...or at least where the window used to be as the glass is gone. Clearly broken out so the sound can travel down to the dancers below. The DJ is an ivory skinned girl with electric blue hair; she has on a white jacket and leggings in two shades of purple, her shoes Air Jordan's in blue and white with purple laces.
A box beside her hold several pairs of the ears and tails from school...as a new song starts to play on her sound system. It's so different from what'd she'd been playing before, it feels more...enjoyable. Like you can connect with this music better than the other songs.
"Okay Everybody...or should I say every...PONY!" She says as she throws ears and tails to her revelers down in the depths of the dance floor. You watch as Tavi softly taps her on the back. Startling her a bit but she changes on seeing who it is. The two girls hug each other with soft squeals of delight. "Oct! Damn girl it's been..what a week since we last spoke?" She says ruffling her charcoal hair softly. Octavia giggles softly as they hug. "So...this that guy I saw you at The Summer Sun Fair? I saw you on the merry go round; Ferris wheel, and sharing a big cotton candy ball together...without me!" she says with a soft whine as if she really wanted to do all that.
Octavia giggles softly at this and takes a seat by the window, Vinyl sits beside her. Like two princess gazing upon their kingdom, a kingdom of music, partying and debauchery. "So...you two know each other?" You ask hoping to stir up something of a conversation with them.
"Well you could say something like that." Vinyl says giving Octavia a knowing aside glance. Your curiosity is really perked now, why did they say it that way? You chalk it up to just being a bout of playful girlish banter. Octavia and Vinyl enjoy the music more as you turn your head to see some guy enter, he has shades nearly identical to Vynil's on his eyes.
"So Vynil, I go the party covered for the rest of the night, you wanna take off with your friends here?" Vynil looks to you and
Octavia both her perfectly pearly white teeth shining in the glow of the neon party lights.
"I'd like that very much."
Some time later...
It's still early enough for you and the girls to leave the warehouse with it's ravenous partying behind for something a little more to your own personal taste. Vinyl; Octavia and you sit outside an Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Canterlot. the chairs are cast iron and the night air is crisp from the rain having finally let up. It leaves that sweet, crisp smell behind whenever there's rain and wet grass. The waiter places three mugs of fine coffee on the little round oak tabletop. "Okay; one Doppio," He says to you, " A Guillermo for you Ms. shades." He says to Vinyl, "and one Ristretto for the lady dressed like she actually WANTS to be here." He says placing a last cup in front of Octavia. Vinyl looks a bit peeved at his remarks, but it just comes with the territory of downtown Canterlot.
"So this is that fancy schmacy stuff you're always going on about Octi?" She asks Octavia sipping her coffee. Octavia giggles and sips her own as the soft sounds of a traditional Calliope and its tinny notes can be heard over the sound system.
"Oh Vinyl I know it's not the powerhouse."
"Eh it got too commercial for my taste, its not about the lifestyle over there anymore." She says chuckling into her coffee."
"Well it is still my ideal place to grab a bite." Octavia adds as the food arrives. Minestrone soup with orzo pasta and gardenia salads with hot garlic bread and marinara sauce. You mhhh softly as you take a bit of the crispy hot bread and dip it, the warm hearty sauce is savory as the flavors dance on your tongue and pallet. By the gods this food is delectable! You wonder if you should come back here sometime soon.
"It's good but are you girls vegan or something?" You ask from the way all the entrees have no animal products in them, not even milk in the coffee or dressing other than oil and vinegar. octavia savors a spoonful of the red minestrone and vinyl a few dandelion greens and hothouse tomatoes before she answers.
"Vegitarian mostly, but it has it's...perks." Octavia says fluffing her lusciously soft charcoal hair. You and them enjoy the meal as the stars above sparkle even past the glimmer of the city lights. When your all finesed with the meal, your satified but not over stuffed. If anything you still feel...energetic.
"So..I take it we're all gonna call it a night?" You ask, to your surpise Octavia and Vynil look at each other with sly little grins and giggle like naughty little school girls. They both blush red and Octavia looks at you with her shades half lowered and a grin on her face.
"What you say we head to my place hmmm?" Your bashful smile is all the answer you need.
"So...“How far is it to your apartment?” you asked Vinyl as you and the girls leave the restaurant and make your way across town in her car.
“It’s a Brownstone and town house combo built back in the 30's. pretty retro without being all hipster...it's more...kitschy or homely old city charm and it’s right about....a few blocks away,” Vinyl points down the street as she drives a few of the apartments start coming into place including lofts built out of the old Dixon pencil factory. “Love how it’s right next to the the train station.” She comments as the car drives past the Canterlot City terminal, it's ancient metal awnings over the tracks now silent this late at night.
Vinyl's apartment is located in the flats not too far from downtown, they aren't exactly slums or bad tenements but they aren't the penthouses and suites of the waterfront either. Quaint little brownstones all lined up and nice and clean along a quiet neighborhood, what more could anyone ask for? It's a warm, summer night, the feeling of rain coming in close. That feeling like electricity in the air coupled with the cool breeze like being at the beach when the sun goes down. Octavia is thankful that it was so beautiful out. She comments that if only it wasn't fast approaching midnight within the next hour, because the threat of rain aside, it felt like the perfect night for an outdoor concert; indeed it is a perfect night for one.
You; Octavia, and Vinyl all enter past the steel door with its harsh coat of protective orange paint and past the narrow hardwood hallways, the sounds from everything from crying babies, to smooth jazz from single swingers in the apartments. Vinyl leads you and Tavi to apartment 12 on the forth floor of the brownstone.
We’re here!” Vinyl exclaims with excitement as she fishes for her house key. “ You ready Tavi?” She asks, quickly turning around to face Octavia with exuberance-filled eyes. Octavia gulps softly and you're left utterly confused. Octavia nods her head and smiles softly
"I’m ready.” She says finding her composure, 'ready?' You think to yourself...'Ready for what?'
"Welcome guys, make yourselves at home, help yourselves to the snacks and drinks." Vinyl says as you take in the apartment. A studio; the floor is covered in white carpeting with Vinyl's symbol of a musical note etched into it. The coffee table has a big book on it, too your surprise one of the titles read.
" The Art of the Simon & Kirby Studios?" While another is, "Catwoman: A Celebration of 75 Years? Hey Vi never took you for a comic book fan." you comment flipping the art book open first. Vinyl chuckles softly digging through her mini fridge coming up with a can of iced sweet tea.
"It's thanks to that Turner guy from school I am, got me into comics when I he showed me some easy to just pick up and read books. Really I got into everything about them, especially the art." She says popping the tab on her can of sweet tea.
"I can see that, judging by the book on Jack "The King" Kirby's art. You say as you and Octavia look at the photos and sketches of the works. You close the art book and sit on the couch as Octavia helps her self to a bottle of sparkling water with lemon flavor from the fridge.
"You want anything to drink Anon?" She asks you as she fishes through the drinks Vinyl has stocked in the mini fridge. You nod when her hand lands on the pouch of Kool Aid. Octavia takes it and tosses it to you, you catch it and Vinyl claps a bit taking a seat beside you on the couch.
"Nice catch." She praises as she clicks her TV on, it's an older clunky box TV. Maybe from like the early 2000's, she has a PS3 wired into it under the glass TV stand and the stand's shelves are chocked with games. A DJ gig must really pay well. The Eleven o'clock news flips on, Vinyl starts to change the channel. "Ugh, bullshit the lot of it." She says in disgust.
"Yeah I know never really got into that sort of thing." You hear
Octavia say as..to your shock bordering on surprise vynil returns with something in her hands. It takes you a minute to realize just what it is. At first you thought it was some kinda funny lamp made out of red glass, but when vynil take a lighter out and puts it to the object, you hear a bubbling noise and then the air grows thick with a skunky smell...she lighting up and toking out of a bong.
"Mhmmhhmm shit ohh I needed that! can you believe while I was on a break at the party and doing a charity stream at the video games, some jerkass was killing
everyone like a fucking maniac and acting like one too? I mean even after he killed a player he'd shoot the bodies or beat them around! makes me glad the asshole didn't have a mic, I can only imagine the things he must have been saying" You start to sweat as the realization kicks in. so Vynil was DJ veteran child's ex and doing a charity stream no less. You feel like a grade A heel.
"Never touch the stuff myself darling," Octavia says as if trying to reassure you but you reach across the table and take the bong into your hand Vinyl has no objections, if anything it makes her smile and chuckle.
"Oh yeah least someone aside me knows how to party!" She says as she cuddles your side lovingly, much to your surprise. Octavia looks at you both but especially you as you bring that piece to your lips. The old biblical story of the forbidden fruit play in your mind. With Vynil being the serpent. You can practically see the horns on her head and the devil tail snaking out under skirt as Octavia...dear sweet Octavia. an angel with a halo of gold and wings of pure white feathers tries to fly you back from the fall.
"Darling, I I've never known you to be into anything ive shown you this evening are you sure wanna? You don't have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable."
"I'll get snacks in case we get the munchies anyway just in case." Vynil says getting up and leaving for just a moment. She comes back with her arms loaded with chips, cookies, corn nuts and various sweet and salty snacks zoned out stoners stuff their faces with when they're all toked up, and your now one of them and you don't care.
"I wanna enjoy being with you both, and if that means embracing new things and crossing thresholds I never though I would, then so be it." You say before taking another hit, longer this time. The smoke filling your lungs up and coursing through you, it's an all new all different kind of rush now.
"Fucking A thats what I'm taking about!" Vynil says as she cheers your new found gumption on. "GO GO GO! Take it to the head take it to the head." You don't get what she means but it's not long before your virgin lungs can't handle it, so you try not to cough as you exhale it and smile. "That's some good shit isn't it?" Vynil asks as Octavia takes her turn, you've all gone this far who knows what the rest of the night holds.
the air it thick with white puffs of weed smoke, the windows closed to allow the place to "hotbox." It's not half bad being baked, not as bad as your parents, psas on drugs and those scare films school made it out to be. There's no full on feeling of madness, no urge to keep going and act like a raging lunatic, it feels nice. Mellow and relaxing even. It's not long until in their thc fuled haze the girls start to get all nice and snuggly with you. They both gently start to cuddle the sides of your arms while cooing softly in your ears, Vinyl to your right, Octavia on the left. They coo and make little noises as they snuggle up nice and cozy.
