Destiny's POV

I coughed and opened the door to my house. Cold Heart, my mother, rushed to me.

"Destiny! Your finally home! I was getting worried," She spoke softly while hugging me.

"Mother..I'll always be," I coughed, "..be fine."

Mother hugged me again then rushed me to the table.

"I made Sticky Sap Soup, dear!"

I nodded and sat in the oak chair. I stared into the golden soup. I sighed and used my magic to pick up the wood spoon.

I stirred the soup and asked, "Mother? Why did you name me 'Destiny'?"

Mother sighed and sat down in the chair next to me. She said her saying she always says when I ask the question.

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words.

Watch your words, for they become actions.

Watch your actions, for they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your *destiny.*"

I nodded. She says that a lot. Well, she used to. I was surprised she said it. Ever since father died she never mentioned that saying Celestia said. I used my magic to make the bowl of Sticky Sap Soup drift towards my bed room.

"I'm going to eat in my," I coughed again, "bedroom."

My mother nodded and kissed my forehead. She then walked out the back door. We both liked to bask in our thoughts at lunch time. I walked over to a iron plate on the counter. I coughed and looked on the plate. Eight gold coins. Mother only made eight bits? That was much less then yesterday. I opened the back door. Ponies walked down the dirt road of Ponyville. A purple unicorn foal ran by. I sighed.

"The village is still young Destiny."

I turned around. Princess Luna walked to stand beside me.

"I know Princess. I'm just..miserable."

The princess nodded. She walked away towards the party. A party  was supposed to happen tonight. It was celebrating the birthday of  my Mother. I went back inside the cottage and grabbed the present I made for Mother. The wrapping was a beautiful gold. I trotted out of the cottage. I coughed half of the way. I finally stopped in front of my Mother's sister's cottage. Balloons were wrapped around the fence that encircled the house. I knocked on the door.

A red, white, and blue pegasus answered. "Destiny! Cold Heart Just Got Here! I found her outside your cottage. And gave her the surprise party! Your plan was amazing!"

I nodded. "Thank you July."

I trotted around her. I sat down just as Mother came in. She looked happy to see me and gave me a hug. She sat down next to me. Every pony else gathered inside the tiny living room.

"Here," I gave her the small, golden gift.

She slowly opened it. A piece of paper was there. It said:

Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have over come.

Mother smiled as she finished reading it. "Who wrote this?"

I shook my head. "I don't know. I found it in the mail. It was assigned to me."

My mother's smile faded. "Oh.. OK."

Some ponies pushed their way in front of Mother and gave her presents. She got cards, bits, chewing gum, and a carrot. After the party, Mother and I went back to the cottage. I sat down on my bed. I looked up into the sky. A full moon soared over head. I sighed again. I had a coughing fit and fell back on my bed. I couldn't help but think about Dad. How he helped me by spending all of his bits to pay for the hospital. He taught me how to do magic. I remember that clearly.

When I finally did it he said, "Great job my little Destiny."

I fell asleep thinking about Dad. I woke up the next morning with Mother knocking on my door.

"Get up! I got the mail and the school sent a letter!"

I sprung out of my bed. I jumped into my chair and teared open the letter.

It said:

Dear Destiny,

Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns is sad to say that you were not accepted into the school.

You are not well enough trained to be in the class you wish to be in. We think you could fit

in with the class below it. We hope you keep training to get a higher average.

Sincerely,

Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns

I almost screamed. Before I could I got into another coughing fit.

"Oh dear, " my Mother gasped, "your coughing more than usual."

I galloped from the table and ran into my room. I started to sob. Why did this happen? My dream was to be in that class. Now I can't go at all. I started coughing again. This time I didn't stop. My chest started to burn. It felt like a dragon was breathing fire at me. I collapsed onto the floor. I think my mother heard me. The door open. Everything went dark. There was no sound. My hooves were numb. I could barely breath. The darkness faded. I was in a hospital room. A heard a beeping sound to my right. I wanted to turn my head, but I was too tired. My breathing became more smooth. I blinked a few times. I saw Mother walk in. My vision was still blurry. Mother gasped and came to my side.

"Destiny!" She semi-yelled.

I watched her gallop to my bedside. She hugged me then turned to the doctor.

The Following Night

I woke up from my nap. Doctors surrounded the bed. I couldn't tell what time it was, but it looked dark outside. One of the doctors yelled something. My vision became blurry. I started to cough again. My chest burned. Mother raced in. She smiled at me. The doctors talked to her for a minute. Mother looked sad. Why was she sad? I'll be fine. Maybe.

Mother walked to my side. She smiled.

"Mom," I mumbled, "I love you."

"I love you to, Destiny."

Mother smiled then repeated the saying:

"Watch your thoughts, for they become words.

"Watch your words, for they become actions.

Watch your actions, for they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny."

I smiled. She put a paper on my lap. I reached for it. The paper had the saying on it. Under the words a signature was there. It said: *Star Swirl The Bearded. I smiled. I guess Princess Celestia did know him. My eyesight became blurry again. My chest burned. I heard the beeping stop as I heard a loud scream. I closed my eyes. I smiled as I saw my mother's face disappear.*

I opened my eyes. A unicorn that was green and yellow stood in front of me.

I hugged him. "Dad!"

He smiled. "Hello Destiny."

"Your not dead!"

"I'm dead."

"W-What?"

"This is a world I call....Starlian. Named after my father: Star Swirl."
