"Well?" Applejack asked. Darkhorse hadn't answered for some minutes, making Applejack feel a bit uncomfortable.
"Oh. Yes. Sorry. If you're offering then... I guess I can't refuse..." Darkhorse stuttered. What is wrong with me?! He thought to himself while mentally berating himself. He was better than this. He chalked it up to being nervous around mares. Gods I have to get this figured out when I have time...
"Well then, let's get started." Applejack said in her southern drawl and began to walk to the closest building.
Not being one to get left behind, Darkhorse trotted after her and caught up.
Once he was next to her she began to talk about the town, but not before asking his name. He responded with a simple "Darkhorse." and they continued on. She began by showing him the best places to get a bite of food or get a drink, telling him which item she thought was best. She didn't downplay the apple desserts. Darkhorse had figured out easily that she must have been an apple farmer and had supplied most of these shops with the apple needed to make their delicious, or so she made it sound, desserts.
After their bout at the restaurants she continued to show him the marketplace, telling him which stands, stalls, and kiosks sold which good. Darkhorse thought it would be pretty easy to figure it out himself, but he didn't say anything apart from the regular "Okay." or "Alright.". He didn't want to seem like a donkey, if you know what that means. While they were walking through the busy-ish marketplace, a few ponies looked their way, thought about them, then moved on with their day. Apart from that, the two really didn't interact with anyone else. Before they left though, Applejack brought Darkhorse over to meet a friend of hers.
Suffice to say it had gone well... well as it could have gone, that is. This stallion, thank the gods it wasn't another mare, was named Doctor Whooves, the resident Doctor for... well everything. He was also an antiques dealer. Wierd how some professions can go together like that. After introductions, Applejack had told the Doctor that Darkhorse was new in town, after which the Doctor told him he could feel free to come by his shop anytime and talk. He was also the town psychiatrist, and Darkhorse didn't know what the whole thing was about, so he decided just to thank the brown stallion and move on.
After that, Applejack decided to just show him the rest of the town, rather than sort out any other business with acquaintances.
Applejack then proceeded to show him some places he might be able to get a room... then she realized that he couldn't possibly have any bits at all.
Then, after that initial tour of the town, she got into specifics. Their first real stop was the library.
"And this here is th' library. It's also home ta one of mah friends, Twilight Sparkle. She's th' librarian. D'ya want ta meet her?" She asked Darkhorse.
Darkhorse didn't respond for a moment because he was busy thinking about how annoying her accent was becoming. He snapped out of it rather quickly, though, and began to answer. "Well I do-".
He never was able to finish. The door swung open and slammed against the side of the tree. The tree that Darkhorse had just noticed that the library was made out of. Leave it to chance guides to not mention big details. She, being a mare, most likely thought he would have noticed himself. Quite obviously Darkhorse wasn't only nervous around mares, but also overly annoyed with some of them. Anyways, from the open door, a mare stepped out yelling something back into the library. From inside there could be heard a few crashes and bangs. After the initial yells the mare turned around and was face to face with Darkhorse.
From Darkhorse's up-close-face-view he couldn't tell what the rest of her looked like, but the mare was obviously purple with a little... purple... appendage on top of her forehead like a h-- oh. She was a Uni... Unik... Unicorn! That was it. She was a unicorn. A purple unicorn. He though he saw a few of those in the initial staring fiasco of his arrival. In his original physical dimension there really weren't many of those... if any. Anyways, the mare was a purple unicorn, with purple eyes, and a purple-ish blue-ish mane with a pink stripe going through it almost exactly in the middle.
The purple unicorn mare looked into Darkhorse's icy blue eyes for a moment before backing up quickly, apologizing as she went.
"Sorry! Sorry!" She exclaimed as she moved away from him.
"Really, it's hardly a problem. You just weren't expecting visitors." Darkhorse said. Wait... what am I doing? he thought. He must have subconsciously decided to take a nicer route with this introduction.
"Oh well... I'm still very sorry. I was just going out to get something. If you need anything, you can talk to my assistant... he's, uh, inside... assisting stuff. I... I have to go." The unicorn stammered out and began to trot away.
"Wait! Wait. I didn't catch your name!" Darkhorse yelled, catching her attention.
"Oh, sorry again. My name is Twilight Sparkle."
"I'm Darkhorse. Nice to meet you." this response made Twilight's eyes widen a fraction of an inch before turning around and leaving quite quickly.
And with that, the unicorn was gone.
"That was... interestin'." Applejack muttered. "Anyways, want to go in an' take a look see?"
"Why not. It's not like it could get any worse." Darkhorse said and they entered in together, not knowing what was about to happen.
