A Moonlight Talk

Moondancer walked down the halls of the Canterlot Castle looking up at the tapestries of the Royal Sisters, Moondancer had visited the palace many times before after mending the broken relationships she had with Lemon Hearts, Twinkle Shine, and Minuette. But now she lived at the Castle as one of the three newly Crowned Alicorn Princess of Equestria. She was crowned the Princess of Knowledge which was fitting for her since she had spent years studying and spending many days in the library. However she could not enjoy her newest achievement as her oldest friend Twilight had been taken over by Dark Magic, becoming the greatest threat Equestria has ever faced.
Canterlot is a ghost town like the rest of Equestria the citizens sought refuse in the castle. Which Celestia had the Captain of the Royal Guard, Shining Armor place a barrier around it, Shining Armor was Twilight’s brother and married to Princess Cadence. That were the rulers of the Crystal empire and the proud parents of the first born Alicorn Equestria had witnessed, but those were all but happy memories now. King Sombra had returned and captured Twilight in his dark magic, taking over the Crystal Empire forcing many crystal ponies and the royal family to also seek refuse at the castle.

The three Alicorn princesses decided to choose three unicorns that were skilled in magic that could wheeled the element of magic and to one day succeed them in ruling Equestria. Luna had decided to make Moondancer her successor turning her into an alicorn and giving her her title. However Moondancer had mixed feelings about her latest achievement, while it gave every pony hope that their greatest protector would be saved, and she could protect her friends she didn’t want to face Twilight in battle. What if Twilight couldn’t be saved? What if in the end Twilight had to be killed in order to save Equestria? These were the questions that were burning in Moondancer’s mind. She walked pasted an open door that led to a balcony. She curiously stepped out into the cool night air gazing up at the moon and the stars. Princess Luna had once again created a breathtaking piece of art in her night sky.
She always was very fond of the night and felt like she could relate to Luna. She knew what it was like to be shunned by a pony that she looked up to. She knew what that feeling of pain was. And she hated it.

“Moondancer?” a voice pulled her out of her thoughts as she turned around to see Princess Luna standing behind her.

“Pr-Princess!” Moondancer quickly bowed causing Luna to chuckle.

“No need to be so formal with me anymore we are both Princesses now aren’t we?”
Moondancer nodded and relaxed slightly, “So…sorry I am still getting used to being a princess.”
The older Alicorn laughed, “You’ll be used to it in no time, if your anything like Twilight.”
They both looked down as Luna mentioned her name.

“I understand you and Twilight were close.” said Luna.
Moondancer Nodded. “I wanted to be like her. That’s why I studied my whole life. But when I reached out and tried to open up to friendship she wasn’t there I hated her for it for the longest time. But now I understand that she had to save you and Equestria from Nightmare Moon. Now we all have to return the favor by saving Twilight.”

Luna walked over to the balcony’s edge looking up at her night.

“Yes while I do owe Twilight for saving me and helping me see that punishing myself for the past wasn’t the right thing to to I too wish I could be like her. She is more like Celestia then any pony I know.and you and I are a lot alike Moondancer. We both have had somepony to look up to however when we needed them the most we were cast to the side. But you chose to just shut every pony else out I chose to let the darkness of envy take over me and if Nightmare moon had succeeded than eventually the lack of sunlight would have killed every pony and I would be all alone.” Luna looked back at Moondancer.

“I hate myself for hating Twilight all the sacrifices she made for Equestria was because she is selfless I was the one that was selfish. I wanted to be like her. I thought if I studied hard enough like she did they I could be on her level maybe even better, but I didn’t study the most powerful magic of all friendship. And now that I know how magical friendship is I’m scared! What if we can’t save Twilight? What if we have to kill her to save Equestria? What if ponies get hurt? I know Starlight and Sunset are thinking the same thing. Twilight saved them like she saved me and now that we have a chance to save her we are all scared! Maybe we weren’t the right choice to be given our wings!” Moondancer fought back tears. Luna wrapped her hooves around the young alicorn.

“If there is one thing I learned its that it isn’t good to hold it in. Letting it out helps to let it all out. You, Starlight, and Sunset weren’t just chosen because all three of you are skilled in magic you were chosen because each of have a strong connection with Twilight. That connection will help you bring her home.”

Moondancer’s back legs gave out as she sat on the marble floor and let the tears to fall. Luna didn’t say another word, merely holding the young alicorn. Moondancer continued to cry letting it all out; her anger, her self hatred, and her worries. When Moondancer had let all her tears out she dried her eyes and looked at Luna.

“There is that better?” she asked

Moondancer smiled and nodded, “Thank you Luna I needed that.” she said hugging her again

“Anytime Moondancer I am always here if you wish to talk. Now come along Shining Armor will be returning with Twilight’s friends from Ponyville soon we have to prepare to meet them.”

Luna led Moondancer out of the balcony and as they headed towards the throne room Moondancer thought to herself.

“Twilight, I will not hold this darkness in me anymore. I swear I will do what I can to save you from your darkness. I will save you my friend.”

As the newly crowned Alicorn of Knowledge joined Twilight’s friends, the new element bearers, and the two other newly crowned alicorns work out a plan to save Equestria’s greatest hero from the darkness that consumed her.
