The Drums of War

Previous Chapter

Tyrannous drank from his glass, the grapefruit juice filling his mouth and making the taste buds go wild. Setting the cup down, he cleared his throat and addressed the other people in the room.

"Colleagues, the time is at hoof. We are finally prepared to strike against Equestria for all it has done to us." He then gazed at each member of his team, his eyes settling on each for a scant few moments before moving to the next. "Now I ask of you all. Are you prepared in full to commit, or has my faith in you been misplaced?"

The blue goat stood up, the bell around his neck tinkling with clear sound. "My minions are prepared for war, Tyrannous. Let us make haste to fight back before they get restless." His red eyes glowed briefly as he grinned. "It is time for me to reclaim Tambalon, or what is left of it after her 'purification.'"

"Very good, Grogar." Tyrannous replied. "And the rest of you?" He looked over at the griffin, busy sharpening a large Haymore sword, sparks shooting between the steel rock and the tempered blade. The diamond dog wore a vest with many pockets, from one of which he pulled a gem.

"Do you see this, Lord Tyrannous?" The hound inquired. "This is the last remnant of my clan, of which was wiped out when the Moon Empress and the Star Queen battled, laying waste to the lush forest where we were with their armies, turning the once vibrant jungle into the Badlands." The dog replaced the gem into his pocket, before sighing. "It has been passed down through my family generations, before falling to me. With each generation, they took an oath to do everything they could to bring down the Equestrian Empire." The dog's eyes blazed with fury at the memory. "I will not break that oath."

"The damned Ponies ruined me home, lads." The griffin piped up, standing from his seat. His eyes, one scarred and unseeing, the other full of anger, while a pleated coat covered his feline hindquarters. "Me family killed, village burned, and the mountains stripped of their gems and resources to fuel their machines." He looked at Tyrannous before sighing. "I'm willing to collaborate with ye, lad."

The elder dragon looked around the room before sighing.
"Celestia and Luna stole away my brothers and sisters while they were still eggs. They sterilized them so that they could only be opened with their harmonic magic" He spat the last part out, as if it left a sour taste in his mouth. "You have my knowledge and science at your call, Tyrannous. Just say the word."

The armored equine grinned beneath his mask, glee filling him as he said these next words.
"Gentlecolts. Let's get to planning."

"Welcome to Appleoosa!" Braeburn grinned at the six ponies assembled in front of him. They smiled in return, looking around. "Lots changed since you were last here, cuz."

"Ah can tell." Applejack chuckled. "Is that ol' Gift Horse running that there toy store?" She asked, looking at the red-and-blue building, windows showing rows upon rows of wooden carts, miniature trains, and dusting the counter was an old, gray earth pony, a picture of a green box with a red bow adorning his flank.

"Sure is! I can't wait to show you everything else!" Braeburn said, preparing to dash off. Just before he could, however, he grunted and sat down. "Hoo Nellie. I gotta rest for a sec, runnin' over here took a lot 'outa me."

"You okay? I remember when you could sprint around town without breaking a sweat." Rainbow Dash inquired, confused.

Braeburn chuckled. "Yeah, these last few years haven't been kind to us. Word on the apple tree is that the Diamond Dogs are targeting caravans and trade routes now, so we don't get as many supplies as we used to," He paused to pop a joint in his back. "meanin' we can't get as much food and things as we used to. Everyone's workin' double time to bring in extra apples and make up for it."

"That sucks, Braeburn." Rainbow Dash said, irritated at the Diamond Dogs. "Anything we can do to help?"

"Well, I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but you can always ask Tillip." He gestured to a house with a red leaf design on it. "He's from Canterda, but he sure does know his farming."

Just then, they heard a strange song playing from the house, talking about Prench and Canterdanians. A red stallion with blue furred hooves and a black mane stepped out of the building, a cutie mark of the letters "P" and "T" adorning their flank, looking as if it was drawn with a marker.

"For Canterda, buddy!" He hollered, before charging to the stuffed orchard. "Let's get a move on, guy!"

"Yeah... He's a few apples short of a full bushel."
