An End and Beginning
Chapter 1: The Fire
Load Full StoryA simple trick.
That's all she wanted to do.
But of course, she messed it up.
And now the orphanage was on fire.
Phoenix Blaze was a unicorn, with yellow fur, an orange mane with a red streak running through it, brown eyes, and a cutie mark that was of fire. Her best friend, Nightmare Storm, was the complete opposite of her. She was also a unicorn, but that's where their likeness stopped. Nightmare was a dark grey pony with dark blue hair that had black streaks running through it. She had grey eyes which were heavily outlined with black eye make up, and her cutie mark was strange, rather creepy swirly purple and blue storm clouds with black raindrops pouring down from them. Phoenix was happy, carefree and, to be honest, has a bit of a bad temper. Nightmare was a bit of a mystery. Gloomy, quiet and a little creepy, she and Phoenix were a strange pair.
Completely contrasted. But best friends.
They had bothed lived in the same orphanage in Ponyville since the day they were born. They had no idea what had happened to their families.
Anyway, it had been a warm, summers day when it happened. The two mares were in the room they shared with eachother, Nightmare reading and Phoenix doing magic.
"Hey, Nightmare, watch this new trick I've been working on!" Phoenix said to her friend, jumping up and down excitedly.
The gloomy pony looked up fom her book and signalled to Phoenix to go on.
Phoenix's horn lit up and a few white sparks shot from it into the air, to then explode into small different coloured fireworks.
"I've been fine tuning that one for a while, but I think I got it now! I know it looks a little small, but it's even better outside! Especially at night!"
Nightmare simply nodded. Phoenix knew her friend. She knew that that meant she liked it.
Little did they know of the small spark that had hit the floor.
"So, what do ya wanna do today? We could go to the park, or go explore the Everfree forest. I know how much you wanna go there!"
Nightmare's eyes widened and she nodded. The two mares both walked out of their room, down the stairs and out the door.
Meanwhile, the spark had ignited with the wooden floorboards. It started up with a small fire that eventually grew and spread, engulfing the room, the top floor, and then spreading downstairs. Luckily it hadn't hurt anyone. But the whole building had been claimed by the roaring flames.
"Oops. My bad."
The two young mares stood astounded as fire-ponies attempted to put out the fire.
Phoenix turned to Nightmare.
"Well, old friend, I guess it's time to strike out on our own." She said, putting her arm round her.
Nightmare shook her off. Not out of spitefulness, only because she hates physical contact.
The two turned from the ruins of the place that they used to call home, and began to walk away from it. For once Phoenix had nothing to say. She had to think. It was her fault the orphanage had burned down (not that anyone knew), and she felt bad about it. Well, for Nightmare. Anyway, she had to find somewhere for them to live, even if only for a little while. They both knew that this was the end of their old lives. But the beginning of their new lives. They continued to walk in silence. Suddenly, Phoenix got an idea.
"I know! Why don't we go live with our parents?"
Nightmare raised her eyebrows. Obviously, Phoenix doesn't know what the meaning of "orphan" is.
"Oh yeah, we don't have any parents..."
Huh. I guess she does. I was wrong. But only this once.
"Maybe we could try to find them? No, wait... that would take a while and we need a place to stay now... Don't you have any idea's, Nightmare? You're supposed the be the smart one after all. Well, according to the script."
Please don't break the fourth wall. This is only my first story. You have to earn the right to break the fourth wall.
"Aren't you breaking right now?"
Aren't you supposed to be trying to find a place to stay? Thought so. Now get on with it.
"Alright, alright. Well, Nightmare? Anything?"
She shrugged without even looking at her friend.
