Princess Celestia let out a genial sigh as she and Equestria's three co-rulers walked through the marble halls of Canterlot Castle, the tall corridor echoing with the litany of hoof steps created by the four Alicorns as well as the trailing formation of Royal Guards.
"It's wonderful we are all going to spend some time together for this little while. I don't know why I don't organize for this to happen more often." Chimed Celestia as she looked side to side to address her shorter co-rulers.
"It is purposeful that our convergence is not made more since it presents a national security threat... has this been forgotten?" Commented Princess Luna.
Celestia turned to her Sister, looking to the navy blue Alicorn with a smile.
"I might have. National security can take a field day for a while. For these next few days, we will all simply enjoy each other."
The Sun Princess' words elicited a chuckle from Cadance.
"How have you managed to keep this place afloat for a thousand years with that attitude, Auntie?" Joked the Princess.
"Strategically. Besides, it wasn't broadcasted that you and Twilight were to be in Canterlot with us, so I at least thought that far. And, you know; strength in numbers!"
"To be fair, Princess, when Chrysalis invaded we were all together, and it didn't seem to help much," Twilight responded with a smile.
Luna's hoof gave a stomp. "Not true, Sparkle! I was absent that day, for my slumber's call was greater than the call to battle."
"I still don't get how you slept through an entire invasion..." Spoke Cadance from Twilight's side.
"Strategically!"
Celestia gave a surprised scoff, "Don't steal my lines, Luna! That's the second time I've noticed you copying my speech."
"Second time!? I knew not my use of language had been degrading to such a level."
Twilight and Cadance shared a wide-eyed, 'O' mouthed expression.
"Was that supposed to be a burn, Luna?"
"There is no doubt in my mind." Responded the younger Princess with a smug sneer.
"I wouldn't get into a diss war with Auntie, Luna. From what I hear she's been practicing on Dignitaries." Cadance added.
"I live with the creature and I can confirm these claims. It is quite enjoyable seeing my Sister's more playful side present itself in her words with unsuspecting Officials."
"I wish our Parlement members and such would lighten up. Whenever I walk into a room it's like all of the fun stops, and I wish for the exact opposite."
"Have you tried telling everypony to not have such a serious attitude when you're around?" Spoke Twilight.
"Well, yes; but it's a circumstantial sort of thing. While I want for my Officials to not be so uptight, there is certainly a time and place for fooling about. I still have an image to maintain, as do my Officials."
"Taking up a habit of nocturnality might benefit your image, Sister. When one is awake while all others are a-slumber, there is no pony to maintain an image for."
Celestia gave a warm laugh at Luna's words.
"You can get away with that, dear Luna. I can't. You know, meetings to attend and such. Maybe you should start staying up a little earlier in the day; I know you already have Night Court, but I'd like to see you in some of the evening's attendances."
"Aye, I do have my Court. More tasks during my evening might be a nice way to start the night."
After Luna's concluding statement, a pause came to the conversation as the four continued walking, a large intersection coming that would either lead to the Castle's Northern or Western wing or the Central Gardens.
"Well, what should we do for the rest of the evening? It's already 5:30." Celestia asked as she stopped to address the three before her.
Twilight piped up, "Cadance and I were together only 2 weeks ago, so personally; I'd like to spend some time with you, Princess."
"What, you don't want to spend more time with me?" Cadance interjected with a sad yet joking tone.
"No, no, that's not what I m-"
"Twily, I was joking. I think it's a perfect idea; I've never really spent time with Luna."
Celestia's hooves clacked to the marble.
"Wonderful! You two can partake in whatever activities you like, and my student and I can have some time together!" The Princess chirped, turning to Cadance, "I assume you'll do your traditional thing and take Luna out to dinner somewhere?"
"You know me too well, Auntie."
"Twilight and I won't hold you two any longer, then. Go enjoy yourselves! A night on the town is a great way to become acquainted."
With those words, Celestia and Twilight went on their own way down the hall, Twilight giving Luna and Cadance a smile and a wave as she departed.
"A night on the town, hm? I concur with Celestia, I believe this will be enjoyable." Luna commented to Cadance as the two began down in the direction they had originally been traveling.
"Of course, it will be fun, Luna! I know a wonderful restaurant for us to have dinner at, Shining took me there years ago and I've been wanting to go back ever since."
"Table for 2, please."
A young, blonde furred mare standing at a wood podium turned to see the two Princesses before her, the mare's eyes widening as she took a bow.
"Y-your Majesties! I-I wasn't told you had a reservation tonight!" She stuttered, standing from her bow as she began flipping through the guest book on the podium before her.
"We don't. Just a surprise visit; I've decided to take my auntie's Sister here out on a little date." Explained Cadance with a smile.
"Oh, well I'm glad you chose our restaurant! You said a table for two?"
Cadance nodded, "My husband took me here years ago, and I've wanted to come back for a while now."
"Would you like a patio seat or a booth, your Highnesses?"
"I'll leave that up to you." Cadance spoke, looking to Luna.
"On such a beautiful evening, I am leaning towards the patio."
"Patio it is, then! Right this way."
Luna's eyes wandered around the interior of the establishment as she followed her host and the greeter. The timber-beam ceiling and orange glow created by the sunset's light gave the place an industrial, yet cozy look and feel. On the air hung the sounds of ponies conversing along with the melodic tones of a piano being played in the corner of the room, a small audience seated around the platform of the sleek black instrument. Upon going through a pane-glass doorway, the trio entered the wonderfully decorative patio area, the space being surrounded by many different lovely plants on all sides including overhead; the patio's 'ceiling' was a simple wood frame for mounting lights and fans, but also gave host to lush vines that provided a natural canopy. The mare finally stopped at a table positioned at the edge of the patio's brick wall, her magic taking two menus from a purpose built holster at her side as she simultaneously pulled out two chairs and set a menu before each position on the table.
"I'll have a waitress over in a moment to have your orders" She spoke with a smile, walking away as Cadance and Luna took their seats at the table.
"This is such a nice little place, isn't it?" Asked Cadance, looking to her partner with a smile.
"Aye. The romantic aura of this retreat is very aligned with your personality."
Luna's words brought a warm laugh from Cadance.
"I love the way you talk, Luna. I know Twily and Celestia suggest you should try talking how normal ponies talk, but I think you should stay as you are."
"R-Really? You mind not how I speak?"
"Not at all! The fact you still say 'aye' instead of 'yes'; I think it's cute."
Luna's azure eyes squinted at the pink Alicorn before her.
"'Cute' is an adjective I steer myself from."
"I... well, 'cute' as in attractive, not 'cute' like a puppy." Clarified Cadance, shifting in her seat.
"Attractive? Stallions are to your liking, I get not how you are 'attracted' to my speech."
Cadance fumbled with her words for a moment, "You're terrible at small talk, Luna. I mean that others might find your uniqueness attractive. And of course, I prefer Stallions, but when I say you are attractive I mean that in a friendly way, as a compliment."
Luna's expression calmed, "I understand now. I appreciate the compliment, as I too prefer my way with words. You... you too are attractive, Cadance." She finished, doing her best to be as flirtatious as Cadance had.
"From you, that is quite the compliment."
Luna's head cocked, "By what do you mean?"
"Don't act like you don't know you're beautiful, Luna. Your deep blue eyes, that mystic mane... your wonderfully unique and adorable way with words. What stallion wouldn't fall for you?"
The Lunar Princess gave a deep blush, looking at Cadance through the corner of her vision.
"You flatter me so! I see your title Princess of Love stands strong, whether it be with a stallion or mare."
"Have you two made any decisions yet?" Spoke a well-dressed waitress, her words taking Cadance and Luna from their conversation.
"Oh, I haven't even touched my menu. I'm sorry, Luna and I have been too focused on talking..." Blushed Cadance as her horn's pale blue aurora surrounded the menu before her, Luna doing the same.
"You're fine, your Majesty. Could I at least get some drinks or an appetizer?"
Cadance's hoof tapped the table as she sighed, her eyes scanning the menu.
"Might my ears be witness to your list of champagnes?" Asked Luna, Cadance giving the Lunar Princess a slightly shocked look.
"The full list is on the other side of the menu, but I might be able to save you the trouble of reading the whole thing by telling you that we just received a pair of Le Manes Pinot Noir imported from Prance." Explained the waitress with a genial smile.
Luna's light blue metallic shoes clacked together, "A bottle and two flutes, please!"
"Alright, I'll be back with your drinks. Take your time finding something to eat, your Highness!" The waitress called to Cadance as she walked back through the patio's entrance.
"I had no idea you enjoyed champagne, Luna." Spoke Cadance as she lowered her menu.
"Very much so. The finer ends of cuisine entice me to no end."
"I'd expect to hear that from Celestia."
"Make no mistake, my Sister's tastes in food and drink surpass mine. I feel for the souls who has partnered dear Celestia in the past, for the pocketbook's depths must be reached when that Alicorn is given a menu."
Cadance snorted with laughter.
"You make the Princess sound like a living vacuum cleaner!"
"Well, to be fair; her temple raises twofold higher than the normal pony, such size demands quite the diet. Newspapers anger me so when reports of her dietary habits are made, they understand not that the meager salads and sandwiches consumed throughout the day by a normal pony would do nothing for my Sister."
"I've... never actually thought of it that way."
The conversation was interrupted as the waitress made her approach, two champaign flutes and the 'Le Manes Pinot Noir' wrapped in a fine, white cloth held in her teal aurora. A flute was set before both Princesses as the waitress filled each vessel nearly to its brim.
"Would you like to keep the bottle?" She asked Luna.
"It would please me so. Might you also deliver us an appetizer of breadsticks and butter?" Added the Lunar Princess upon having the champaign set at the table.
The waitress bowed, "I'll have them out as soon as possible, your Highness."
Luna's hoof raised to the mare as she went to leave, "Please, formalities may be dropped. My host and I are present on casual terms."
The waitress simply nodded and smiled as she went off on her way.
"Has your family been faring well? As I understand it you are the first Princess in Equestria to have a daughter." Luna spoke as her attention went to Cadance, who had just taken a sip of her spirit.
"Mh, mhm!," Cadance quickly swallowed what champaign was in her mouth, "Shining and Flurry Heart are doing just fine. You brought up an interesting point; I'm the first Princess to have a child, and on that note; the first to get married... right?"
"Aye. My sister has never been wed, and to my knowledge has had but a few mates. Luckily, my position in the ranks of relationship are not last, poor Twilight holds that position."
The conversation paused as the waitress swiftly delivered the stainless steel wireframe breadstick container along with two dishes of melted butter.
"You've been married before?" Continued Cadance.
"Nay, I simply had a partner." Answered Luna, bringing her champaign to her lips.
"Really? I never knew. What was his name?"
After enjoying the sweet, fizzy drink, Luna gave a sigh as she hesitated to answer for a moment.
"My lover's memory is one I'd not to bring up. Sh... He... never d-"
"Did he break up with you?" Interrupted Cadance, her enthusiasm to know more showing through.
"N-Nay. My millennia-long banishment cut short our time together. I was not able to give my love a final goodbye."
Cadance's ears fell to her head, "That's terrible... sounds like you loved him a lot."
A sigh came from Luna as she lowered her head.
"T'was no stallion, Cadance. Her... her name was Wisp." Mumbled the shy Alicorn.
"Oh! I... I had no clue, Luna. Wisp... what a sweet name." Cadance stated as she tried to keep her voice down.
"You... you are not off-put by my preference?"
"No, of course not! I think it's wonderful if two mares find love with each other. I'm just surprised; I thought you'd lean towards stallions like Celestia."
"I too thought I would. I had my eye on several stallions for a time, but when I first came to know Wisp... my entire body was filled with a warmth I had never felt before. How I miss that spry filly." Lamented Luna, her voice dropping off as she spoke.
"I hope she knew how much you loved her."
Luna gave a light smile, "Aye, she did. Very much so."
"Have you ever attempted to find somepony else? It's been a good 4 years since your return."
"Nay, and I shan't for a long time to come. She was no normal filly, for she was a Thestral. Like those few in my branch of the Royal Guard, her home was the Hollow Shades. After our relationship, I do not think I could give my heart to a 'normal' pony."
"Wow, I... I really never would have guessed. What was she like?"
"In appearance, her figure was adorned with a deep gray coat of fur, and her lavender mane looked as if it were made from flowers. Her eyes were a deep, sparkling green... and her breath always tasted of sweet fruits, for fruit is the sole item on a Thestral's diet,"
Cadance smirked at the extra detail of how Wisp tasted, now seeing just what kind of relationship the two had, "That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard, Luna. You're incomplete without a lover, I'm sure of it. You really need to find another filly like Wisp."
"I could not. My heart has no desire for another love. I have never felt for others as you do, and even in these current times I would prefer solitude."
Cadance held her silence for a moment; she didn't feel like Luna was really being truthful with her words.
"Have we made any choices, your Majesties?" Came the voice of the waitress as she stopped at the table, a notepad and pen readied in her magic.
"I have not touched my menu, but my hunger has grown," Spoke Luna as she took the menu before her with a spell, Cadance doing the same, "Give me a single moment, for I will make a quick decision."
"No rush, Princess Luna. Princess Cadance, have you found anything you like?"
"I have, actually. I'll have the Butternut Squash Bake with a side of those Kale chips; light on the salt, please. That's what I had when my husband brought me here years ago."
"Wonderful choice! And, for you, Luna?" Inquired the waitress as she jotted down some things on her pad.
"Caught my eye has the Artichoke and Spinach lasagna. As for a side dish, I would like the Honey-roasted Sweet Potatoes."
The waitress focused on her pad as she wrote, her magic taking the two menus from the Princesses, "Perfect. I'll have your dishes out soon!" She finished, giving a smile as she departed on her way.
"I don't really like artichokes." Commented Cadance.
"I do. Mixed with spinach in a lasagna, such a dish sounds wonderful." Luna explained, slightly happy to change the subject.
Clearing her throat, Cadance leaned over the table towards Luna, "I think you have a problem, Luna. You think your heart doesn't wish to love again, but I think you're lying to yourself."
"What mean you; I lie to myself?" Inquired the Alicorn with a raised brow as she too leaned inwards on the table.
"You dearly loved Wisp, and it's clear she made you feel complete. You say that your heart doesn't wish for another lover, but I think the exact opposite is true. No heart goes a thousand years without love and doesn't ache."
"Times were different, then. Freedom, had I. When I reigned as the Night's Guardian our Castle was but a place for slumber and sustenance, the night skies and fjords of the mountains were my true place of being. Today, if I were to cast myself back to the night, and spend my leisure hours in the Hollow Shades as I did before, Celestia would object; for I have responsibilities."
Cadance did her best to hold back her smile; she had done it. Luna hadn't given any objection to her words, she had just made excuses.
"Luna, do you really think Celestia would hold you back if you wanted to follow your heart?"
The Princess remained quiet for a time as she thought, "Nay, if I gave my intentions I doubt she would... but I still feel as if finding a new partner is out of reach... I am not a romantic. I have never been. Even with my Wisp, I had not been 'romantic' as you would imagine it. And, after all those years spent in solitude... I can bring no true feelings to my heart that I could give another."
Cadance gave the Alicorn across from her a loving look as she leaned further across the table, taking Luna's hoof in her own.
"Luna, the greatest feeling anypony in the world can have is love. You know that as well as I do, and from how you've talked about your Wisp, I am positive that you would be the most wonderful, most romantic lover a filly could hope for." Cadance assured as she looked deeply into Luna's azure eyes.
"Y-you are sure? I... I do n-"
"I'm sure. That old heart of yours pines for another love, you're just afraid of letting another filly into your heart because you don't want to get hurt again."
Luna stayed completely silent, her eyes still locked with Cadance's.
"You may think you prefer to be alone, but I think you simply haven't had the chance to see that isn't true."
"You have given me such a new view on things, my dearest Cadance... not a soul has spoken to me in such ways for a millennium." Finally piped up Luna, her speech quiet.
"'My dearest Cadance' is the sweetest thing you've said to me all night. I think it's funny you don't think you're romantic, almost every word out of your mouth is like music to me." Returned Cadance with a giggle.
"Oh, flirtatious vixen! Do spare me of your compliments!"
Cadance threw her head back in laughter, "'Flirtatious vixen'? I've never been called that!"
"Aye, assumedly so; my way with words, as you have noted, is far from the normal tongue of today." Stated the Lunar Princess as she and Cadance continued to gaze into each other's eyes.
"I see the Princess of Love is working her magic." Came the voice of the waitress, both Cadance and Luna snapping their heads to see the mare standing a short way from the table, their dishes held in her aurora.
Silence fell over the two as they unlocked hooves and went back to their seats, Luna's head turning to look behind her at the rest of the patio, three other table's occupants all looking in their direction.
"Don't be so flustered, you two. A bottle of champaign and a beautiful sunset would make anypony all sappy!" Grinned the waitress as she lowered each dish before the Princesses, who had not yet looked back to each other, as Luna was still looking at the other customers.
"Speak to no soul about what you may have heard. I make myself understood, aye?" Spoke Luna with a scowl, her eyes going across the 8 or so other patrons.
There came a collective nod and murmur of agreeance from the group.
"Oh, Luna, stop being so embarrassed! We were just talking." Cadance assured with a smile.
"Our words stretched further than simple small-talk, Cadance." Muttered Luna as she turned around, her cheeks rosy.
"Enjoy your meals, Princesses." Finally spoke the waitress as she went off on her way.
"You were getting pretty saucy there for a second. I think I've already gotten your feelings to open up a little."
Luna simply nodded as she took a bite of her lasagna from her fork, an audible 'snap' coming from one of the crisp pieces of artichoke. A calm came over the conversation as each Alicorn enjoyed her dinner, occasionally sharing a glance. As the swell of emotions in Luna's mind and heart calmed, she finally began realizing just how wonderful the adorable pink mare across from her had been making her feel. It felt like eons since someone had flirted with her in such a casual, yet loving way, and hearing so many nice things come from such a sweet mare only amplified the little flutter she felt in her chest.
"I don't want to bother you while you're eating, but I'm a little curious about this. Since you have a preference for other mares, do you actually find me attractive, or were you just saying that to make me smile?" Probed Cadance as she took a drink of her champaign.
Luna shrunk in her chair, "Must I answer such an inquiry?" She whined as she looked up through her brow at Cadance.
"Oh, goodness..." Her heart nearly melted at the unintentionally adorable look Luna had given her, "If you don't want to answer, you don't have to."
The Lunar Princess gave a little shift in her seat, her eyes locked on the dish before her as she thought on giving an answer. With anticipation, Cadance looked on, but after a few moments Luna had simply gone back to her meal, her sight occasionally drifting around the scene.
"May I take your plates?" Asked the waitress as she approached, her words drawing Luna and Cadance's attention to her direction.
"Yes, please; I can't eat another bite."
"I too could not fathom eating any more."
The dishes before each Princess were taken in the mare's aurora, "I'm glad to see you enjoyed the food, your Highnesses! Think there's any room for dessert?"
With a sigh, Cadance looked over to the mountains in the distance; the sun having crested the horizon a fair while ago, but it's light still gave the surroundings an even contrast.
"Well, it's getting late. What do you think, Luna?"
"Late? If today were standard, I would be waking up now. Our equals will not mind if we are out for more time, I should think."
"I guess we'll see the dessert menu!"
"Alright," Two smaller, more rectangular slips of laminated paper were put before each Alicorn, "I'll be back in a moment to take your orders."
"I doubt my stomach's ability to hold more food... but I do crave something sweet. Mind you if we find something to share?"
"You like cheesecake?" Cadance asked, looking up from her menu.
"Plain or chocolate, aye. Too sweet is not to my likings."
"Nevermind, then."
"What did you have your eye on?"
"The Maraschino cherry cheese cake. If you don't like 'too sweet' then you wouldn't like this."
Luna gave a pause as her hoof tapped the table, a sigh exiting her nostrils as she too browsed the menu.
"What exactly would you prefer? If we are to share a dessert I feel it should be something we both approve of."
"You're the picky one; just choose what you want and I'll have no problem with it."
"Does a "Triple Diple Chocolate Fudge Sundae" sound appealing at all?" Smirked Luna.
Cadance scoffed, rolling her eyes, "No, that doesn't sound appealing," she commented sarcastically, "That sounds delicious, we'd have to be a pair of morons to not order that."
"I concur. Well, then it is decided." Confirmed Luna as she put her menu down and raised her glass of champaign, which, similarly to Cadance's, had now been refilled twice.
"Sharing a dessert is a good idea; I'll save a few bits on our little trip."
"If you did not bring enough money, I too have a small sum." Blankly commented Luna.
"I was joking; I've got enough. I'm just pretty sure that bottle of champaign you got us is an expensive one." Returned Cadance as she took a drink from her own flute, eyes looking to the quarter-full bottle.
"Since I chose not from the written list, I have no clue how much it will cost you. Apologies on that regard."
"Oh, don't be sorry. As long as it's not completely astronomical, it'll be worth it. I usually like wine, but this stuff is really good."
"It fits for your preference to rest with wine." Smiled Luna.
"Oh? How's that?"
"Wine is the lover's drink of choice; more alcoholic, and a deep red hue as opposed to the amber of champaign."
"Funny, I was going to order a bottle before you went with champaign."
"Were you now? Seeking to lighten me further than I have already been, aye?" Joked Luna as she sipped at her flute.
"I don't need to get you drunk to get your feelings to free themselves."
"Getting me to talk about my past love was premeditated?"
"No, I had no idea you'd go and tell me about Wisp. I just thought you always seemed so... I don't know, emotionless... and I wanted to see if I could bring out a filly I knew was there."
"Oh. I... do dearly appreciate your effort, thus far our time together has been time I would not even have wished to spend with my Sister. You certainly have made me feel unlike I have felt for many years." Blushed Luna in response, swirling the little champaign remaining in her glass.
"How have I made you feel?" Cadance inquired as she rested her cheek on her hoof.
The blue Alicorn stammered with her words for a moment, her eyes wandering, "The only way I think to describe it is... I... w-well," Her gaze came back to Cadance's, "I feel as if I am in Wisp's company once more."
"So, you feel like you love me?"
"Since the menus are all put away and you two have gone back to talking, I'm going to guess you've got some desserts in mind?" Came the voice of the waitress, Luna and Cadance looked in her direction.
"Just one dessert, actually; the... Luna, what did you say again?" Cadance spoke, sitting back in her chair as she looked to the Alicorn.
"T-the, uh... Triple Chocolate Sundae with Fudge... I believe." Stammered Luna, still blushing at Cadance's assessment.
"You mean the "Triple Diple Chocolate Fudge Sundae?" Corrected the waitress.
"Aye, such was its name. A single one, for my host and I plan on sharing it."
As had been done before, the two dessert menus were lifted from the table by the waitress's magic, "I'll make sure they include two spoons. Have you two enjoyed the food so far?"
"Oh, yes; it's been absolutely delicious."
"Simply fantastic. Give my compliments to the chef." Each Princess spoke simultaneously.
"Good to hear. I'll be out with your dessert in a moment!"
The mare walked back through the glass doors of the patio entrance and through the array of chairs and tables to the kitchen's entrance where there stood three chefs, the Restaurant's co-owner, and a single member of the wait staff.
"So, what'd they say?" Asked the Restaurant's head chef, a look of anticipation, but also anxiety on his and his staff's faces.
"'Absolutely delicious', and 'simply fantastic'. Princess Luna told me to compliment you three on your work."
The waitress's words brought celebration from the three chefs, the sous and head chef giving each other a look of joy.
"Before they leave, we must get a photo to hang on the wall, and maybe we can get them to leave a written review! Could you imagine what that'd do for business?" Commented the co-owner, his front hooves bouncing excitedly.
"Yeah; do that as they're leaving, Boss. I don't want to disturb them any more than we have to." The waitress returned as she looked over her shoulder at the two Princesses, the two still completely caught up in conversation.
"Judging by what you said earlier, they've gotten pretty... friendly, with each other." Added the other member of the wait staff.
"Princess Cadance is just trying to show Luna a nice time."
"Well, I'm glad she decided to do it here!" The co-owner chimed as he and the chefs went back to their business.

"You... you think I have fallen in love with you?" Inquired Princess Luna as she sat up in her chair.
"I might not go that far, but I can see that twinkle in your eyes when I flirt with you." Cadance explained with a loving tone, her head now resting in her hooves.
"Having you say that, I must now pose a question to you. Am I attractive to you?"
"Yes, you are. I think you're absolutely adorable."
A light giggle came from Luna as she flicked a hoof in Cadance's direction, "Adorable, I am not."
"Then what would you prefer me to call you?"
Luna's stance shifted a little, her head turning as she looked to Cadance from the corner of her eye, "Beautiful. My stature fits not with the connotations of the word 'adorable'."
"In your appearance; yes, you are most certainly beautiful, but the way you've been acting? Adorable fits that perfectly."
"My actions are this way only as of current; mind you. It just so happens you have brought my heart into a state of life it has not been in for too long."
Luna's words brought a chuckle from Cadance, "I'm glad I've been able to do so. I thought you'd be as stoic as you make yourself out to be."
"In private, I am much more free-spirited."
"I've noticed."
There was a pause as Luna drank down the last of her champaign, the flute held in her magic being set to the table with a light clink.
"How many glasses have you had now?" Cadance inquired, sitting up as she took her head from her hooves.
"Three, I believe. I do feel it appropriate for a fourth glass." And thus, the bottle was lifted from the table and brought to bear on Luna's flute.
"I take it you aren't too light of a drinker." Came Cadance's comment as she sipped at her own drink.
"Aye, I am used to alcohol. In times past brews such as wine and beer were fairly commonplace as standard drinks, as I am sure you know. Upon my return, I was relieved to see such a variety of beverages to be enjoyed, since I care not for beer. My Sister does not let it be too well known, but in casual settings, she will enjoy a frothy brew."
Cadance recoiled slightly, "Celestia actually likes beer?"
"Aye. Fitting, I think it is, for somepony as warm and fun-loving as my Sister to enjoy such a drink."
"So... Celestia likes beer, you like champaign, and I like wine. What do you think Twilight likes?"
A short sigh came from Luna as she rested her head on her hoof, "I will assume it is something non-alcoholic, as I know she does not drink."
"Right so far..."
"Does she like grape juice? I feel that to be the most appropriate, as it would match her fur color."
Luna's subtle quip gave Cadance a chuckle, "It's not grape juice! Keep guessing..."
"Plain water?"
Cadance's hooves clapped together, "You got it! The only reason she keeps soda anywhere in the Castle is because of Spike."
Approaching hoof-steps drew the duo's attention to their waitress as she set the large, delicious looking dessert in the middle of the table and put a spoon before each Princess.
"Enjoy the dessert, your Highnesses. Also, all of the chefs and the co-owner are delighted to hear you've had such a great experience." Spoke the waitress with a smile.
"We should thank you for such great service. Luna and I have been having a wonderful time." Commented Cadance as she took the spoon before her in a spell.
"Indeed! My host and I have only but compliments."
"Well, I'm glad to hear that!" Chimed the waitress as she went back towards the patio's entrance.
As Cadance took the first bite of the wonderfully chocolatey and icy treat, Luna's eyes simply remained trained on the interior of the establishment.
"Is it acceptable that we move our party indoors?" Inquired Luna as she turned to address Cadance.
"Sure... but why do you want to go inside?"
"It would be so nice to sit before the piano and eat our dessert, do you not agree?"
"That does sound nice. Well, you get our champaign, I'll get the ice cream."
With the mentioned items now held in each Alicorn's magic, the two began towards the patio's entrance, as they approached one of the wait staff took notice.
"Are you leaving, your Highnesses?" Asked the Stallion, who had been wiping down a table.
"Nay, we are simply coming indoors to enjoy a different setting."
"Oh, cool! I'll make sure to tell your server you moved spots."
The sounds of the piano's light, jazzy serenades and the chatter of the room replaced the twittering birds and rustling leaves of the patio as the duo moved through the maze of seats and booths towards the few tables that were arranged around the piano's stage. A single table which sat front and center had remained untaken by any patrons until the Princesses arrival, the piano player and the several guests seated in the area eyeing the duo as they sat down.
Cadance laughed as Luna sat across from her, "You thought the patio was romantic; this is ten times worse!"
"Aye; maybe my choice was intentional in that regard." Joked Luna, her spoon cutting a ball of ice cream from the peak of the treat.
There came a humming giggle from Cadance as her own spoon deposited a scoop of ice cream on her tongue, "I like how you're starting to think!"
"Might I try some of your ice cream, my dear Cadance?" Luna asked with a sappy expression.
"Only if I can have some of yours."
In unison, the two Princesses moved their ice cream loaded spoons to each other's mouths, a giggle coming from each Alicorn at the act.
"Mh, your side is superior." Commented Luna with a nod.
"Luna, we're eating the same ice cream..."
"Aye, but the bit you gifted to me seemed to contain far more chocolate."
"Does that mean you'd like some more?" Cadance smiled, her spoon being manipulated to gather a generous portion of the treat.
Luna's response was to simply hold her mouth agape. With a chuckle, Cadance fed the waiting Alicorn from her own spoon, a smile coming to Luna's face after receiving the treat.
"I thought you said you weren't cute." Teased Cadance.
"I am willing to be lenient."
A short laugh was shared between the duo as they went back to enjoying their shared treat, Luna's ears now focusing on the sweet piano tones. The smile held on her expression could simply not fade; she had never realized just how much she really did need somepony to show her what love was like again.
After cleaning the wine-glass styled vessel of any remaining ice cream, the Princesses remained for a little while longer simply talking and enjoying the night while downing the remaining champaign. The Co-owner, seeing that the two had paid their bill, went to the table with a camera held in his magic inquiring if it was alright that he get their photo so it could be displayed on the restaurant's wall of well-knowns who had all dined at the establishment. More or less dragging her fairly embarrassed partner along, Cadance had stood from her seat and gone to the stage before the piano so that the stage's lighting could give a better photo; with a hoof across Luna's shoulder and a wing across her back, Cadance stood and smiled with the sheepish Lunar Princess as the photo was taken.
Upon returning to Canterlot Castle, the pair had checked in with the Guards at the main gate before traveling to the Castle's gardens, the peaceful area providing a nice contrast to the sounds of the restaurant.
"How might you suppose we spend the remainder of our night?" Luna inquired as she paced through the garden.
Cadance, who was leaned against the railing of a balcony overlooking the breath-taking landscape beyond the Castle's confines, gave a short sigh at the question, "Well, I don't really know. Besides talking, I can't think of anything else." She lied; a plan certainly in her mind.
"We know so little about one another I feel that more hours can be spent without boredom being a problem." Returned Luna as she looked to the night sky.
"Oh, I think more hours could be spent, as well." Cadance spoke more to herself than to Luna with a grin.
There came an odd squeaking sound and the flutter of wings from behind Cadance, the Alicorn turning to see that a small bat had perched itself in Luna's outstretched hoof. Cadance looked on in wonder as the two creatures shared a look, Luna smiling and kissing the fuzzy bat on the top of the head before sending it on its way.
"Well... you too live up to your title."
Luna simply smiled to Cadance, her dimly glowing, slit pupil eyes giving the Alicorn a mystic appearance as she stood in the moonlight. Cadance could almost feel her heart melting. There was a moment of silence as the two shared a look, Luna being the one to look from Cadance's eyes back to the world beyond.
"I know I already commented you on your eyes earlier, but by Celestia's name they are beautiful."
"Others seem to concur with your words, dear Cadance. I have many times been complimented on them." Luna spoke innocuously, not really catching that Cadance was trying to be more than flirtatious with her.
"You know, Luna; I never got an answer when I asked if you were attracted to me." Commented Cadance.
The Lunar Princess gave a sheepish sigh, moving to stand beside Cadance at the railing, "Excruciatingly so," She finally answered, looking to her partner with a slightly anxious expression.
"Well, isn't that sweet that we both find each other attractive?" Cadance spoke in an almost mumble, using her wing to pull Luna closer to her.
"I-I suppose it is..." The Alicorn noted as she leaned her head back a little, as Cadance's act had pulled their faces quite close.
"I was sure there was a reason behind you being so flirtatious with me tonight." Came the response as Cadance craned her neck to shorten the distance Luna had created, her loving eyes bearing into those of the sheepish Lunar Princess.
"A-Aye, 'twas us being friendly."
"Then what's stopping you from being a little more 'friendly', hm?" Asked the Princess of Love, their faces close enough to where she could feel Luna's nervous, rapid breaths.
"You have a married partner, Cadance... I-I see very well what you mean, and-"
"Shining's not gonna have a problem with us, Luna. Just because I have a husband doesn't mean I won't hesitate in giving love to an aching heart like yours."
"Do you... do you lean both directions?" Luna asked bluntly.
"That's one way to put it. It's not a preference; it's a lack of one. Luna, if Shining had been a filly, I still would have taken his... or her hoof in marriage."
Luna failed to respond for a moment, her sheepish eyes still gazing into Cadance's, "Does that mean that you... have true feelings for me?"
"What do you think?"
"I think you wish to make love to me," Luna stated in her usual direct manner.
Cadance once again moved closer, her muzzle almost touching Luna's, "I'm pretty sure you feel the same way... so what's stopping you?" She spoke in a lovingly quiet voice.
"Cadance, we are in public." Stated Luna with a short smile.
With a crackle and a strobe of light from Cadance's horn, the surroundings were changed from the nightly gardens to the decorative walls of Luna's tower room.
"Are we?" Inquired Cadance as she yanked Luna's figure closer to her own with her wing.
"Dear Cadance... believe me, I do have great feelings for you, b-but I... you already have a partner, and I wish not to fall in love with you if I cannot take you as my own," Luna explained timidly, her eyes wandering from Cadance's.
With a hoof, Cadance turned Luna's head back to face her own, "You don't have to fall in love with me. That's not what I want for you; all I want to do is give you a little spark so you'll remember just how fantastic it is to have a mare to romance. I want to see you go back to being the free, night-wandering spirit you once were and I want to see you go back into the world and find another love! But, as we both know, you'll never take that plunge without a little push."
It was like a peck; their noses bumping together as Luna gave Cadance an awkward kiss on the lips. The act left Luna with her eyes wide, Cadance; however, looked to the Alicorn with something Luna could only imagine being the face she had given Shining Armor on their honeymoon. Cried the normally appearing Alicorn as she scooted to her exhaustedly panting partner, her blue hoof raising to stroke along where she had bitten Cadance, "Caused no further harm, have I? I... Luna's figure was brought closer to Cadance's by a spell, the Love Princess's eyes locking with her partners, "I'm not flattering you; I'm serious. That was the most amazing thing I've ever felt. I... I think your little bite only made that whole thing more enjoyable." Steamed the Alicorn.
For a moment, Luna was at a loss of words, "I knew not that I had been so loving. You seemed scared..."

A short laugh escaped Cadance, "I think you made love to me, Luna. And, even if this past little bit has been extra; would you have preferred for me to not try and get you in bed with me?"
