Jacob Cooper doesn't want to fight. He never did, but when technology is discovered that allows travel to different star systems, every major country on Earth is determined to snag anything valuable in the cosmos. The countries can't ever come to a compromise, which eventually leads to an all-out war.

America, your home country, eventually gets involved; however they won't accept defeat, and make the decision to start the draft. As luck would have it, you are selected, and are instantly deployed with an unit. When your unit is travelling to their destination, an abnormal black hole appears and shreds your ship to scrap. Fortunately for you, you wake just at the right time.
