The Conversion Bureau: The Aftermath For a Bot
Chapter_2: Out There
Deep underground, in humanity's last automated bunker, Observer One's lights came online with a flicker of orange, slowly evening out until there were two steady LED glows on its face plate. It was lowered from its harness onto the ground, and greeted by arms outfitting it with the necessary gear for its mission. A vest with magazines and other tools was placed on its chest, holsters were placed on its legs, and a large pack was placed on its back. This pack was quite unique, as it contained humanities crowning achievement: a micro cold fusion reactor connected to a 3d printer, and to Observer one itself. This small reactor could power Observer for upwards of a millennia, and the 3d printer could be used to print ammunition, parts, even tools out of any matter that Observer could find. Next, Observer was given a pistol for its left leg holster, and a compact assault rifle for its right leg holster. With those final pieces of gear installed, Observer began walking towards the exit, as it reviewed its directives.
Directive One: Observe this world, and anything that I find on it.
Directive Two: Learn and Grow as a being.
Directive Three: Survive. Do not perish.
Directive Four: Evolve. Become more than I already am. Evolve to fit with your environment, both with behavioral changes, and with physical changes.
Directive Five: Live. Experience all this world has to offer, experience emotions, as a human would.
As Observer came to the door, they were greeted with a message over their communicator.
"Observer, if you are hearing this, then you are about to embark on a journey that most humans could never dream of. The world is changing, and you must learn to change as well, if you are to survive. As of my recording this, the hu-*Static*- and you will most likely find many new and strange things. The remains of our race will be left behind for you to find and learn from. But please, Observer, be careful. Make a few friends, perhaps, and find your place in this new world. Good luck, Observer, and may we meet someday."
"Message end. Time passed from time of recording to present: Ten years." The base's computer chimed as it slowly lost power.
The doors to the outside opened, and Observer saw the outside world for the first time. It was beautiful, although Observer had yet to learn the true meaning of that word. It simply thought the word was fitting. Observer stepped out onto the old, worn concrete floor in front of the door, and looked back at the bunker.
"Doors Closing, Base Purge Initiated" a broadcast came from the depths of the bunker, as the doors began to grind close.
Observer stepped away from the doors, turning to look out upon the expansive ruins it found itself in. As it looked to the horizon, it noticed something: words were hanging in the sky above what was left of the city, reading "CHERNOBYL"
Observer took in the place, before a rough, digitized voice uttered its first words.
"Chernobyl, Discovered"
A rumbling came from the base, as it destroyed its own interior, and Observer began scanning for a satellite to link to and record their discoveries. They located one, identified as a GPS satellite for an old company from the before called Garmin, and erased the data from the satellite, replacing it with their own, and uploading their first discovery of many.
