My Dinner With Cold Forecast
My name is Ginger Owlseye. I'm a student of Crystal Prep, and tonight is one of the biggest nights of my life.
The reason I say that is because I'm actually going out on my first date... with a girl. I know, not really that much of a shocker. But I'm actually very terrified. I have never been on a date in my life, and I know it can be pretty stressful, especially considering if you don't know what to talk about. But that is not the case on my date because I know plenty of things to talk about with my date.
If you don't know who she is, her name's Cold Forecast. She's a student of Crystal Prep like me, and from what I know about her she's a very quiet girl. Doesn't really talk to a majority of the students of CPA except to her very few friends and tonight, me. And I'm determined to make her the most comfortable girl possible, even if that means stepping out of my comfort zone. But if it means impressing my hopefully soon to be girlfriend, then so be it.
Once I applied the makeup onto my face and got my dress on, I checked the mirror one more time to notice my hair was a little ruffled up. So I quickly brushed it to its normal look and began to walk out. I grabbed my door key and my car keys and was about to head out only to hear my brother call me out before stepping out the door.
I turn myself around to see my brother Peter in his black track shorts and white T-shirt. His hair was a little damp, along with his clothes very sweaty having recently gone to the gym.
"Mind if I talk to you for a second?" he asked me.
I didn't really want to talk to him at this moment since I was desperate to get out the door to go on my date.
"I would appreciate it if you could make it quick though." I said to him.
Peter took a deep breath and then looked to me in the eye. "You know that I love you. Right?"
"Yes..." I said sounding unsure. I couldn't feel my feet, my hands began shaking, and sweat began running down my head. I hoped he wasn't going to ask what I thought he was going to ask.
"And that I will respect you for who you are, and what you believe, right?" Peter said.
"Sure..." I replied hesitantly.
"Ginger, I know. I know who you're going out on a date with. Its that Forecast girl, isn't it?" Peter asked.
My heart fell into the pits of my stomach. My own brother knew I was I going out...with a girl.
"You... you know I'm..."
"Ginger, its okay. I don't care if you like girls, its okay." My brother said to me. "If that's what you like, then its fine by me. I'm not going to stand in the way of your decisions and no one else should either."
I couldn't believe what he said. He had never been this nice to me in my life. I couldn't help but tear up at how happy I was knowing that my own brother would support me.
"Hey, come here." my brother said with open arms.
We both held onto each other in a tight hug and he let me cry on his shoulder. I couldn't help it.
"Why are you crying?" Peter asked me.
"...I thought you'd hate me. I know most of our classmates look down on people like me, and... I... I thought you would as well." I whimpered trying to speak clearly.
"Sis, no." Peter said as he looked me in the eye and cleared my tears away. "You're my little sis, I don't care if you like girls or not. You're the best sister I could ask for. And if anyone has a problem with you preferring girls, they have to get by me first." Peter said with triumph.
I smiled with relief. I'm glad he was on my side.
"You... you think Mom and Dad would be okay with it?"
Peter gave me a smile.
"I'm sure they would. I know they would. Now what are you standing around for, don't you got a date tonight?" Peter asked.
My eyes widened in shock. I completely forgotten I was going to head on out.
"Oh shoot!"
I was about to rush out the door but my brother stopped me for a moment.
"The flowers?" He asked me as he handed them to me.
"Yes, thank you!" I quickly shouted.
"Promise you'll be back by 11?" Peter asked.
"No promises!" I shouted out before closing the door leaving him standing in protest.
I finally arrived in front of the house of my date, and stepped out of the car to walk to the door. I gave the door a knock, and out came Cold Forecast. She wore on a pretty purple dress that just sparkled in my eyes, a pearl necklace, and ruby high heels. And her face... that was was just absolutely astonishing... I had never felt flustered or nervous in my entire life. She was standing right in front of me... the perfect girl... the perfect...girl...
"H-Hi..." Forecast quietly said.
"Oh, uh... hi. R-Ready to go?" I said, my hand rubbing the back of my head and several amounts of sweat running down my head.
"Uh, sure yeah..." Forecast replied, her voice shaking.
I'm not so sure if I came at a bad time, or if she was just nervous, but she seemed a little uneasy. Either way, it's my job to make her comfortable, and that's what I'm gonna do!
I walked her over to my car and opened the door up for her, allowing her to step in and I got in on my side. I turned on the engine, and drove off with intentions to head to the restaurant we made reservations for.
The entire car ride for the most part was okay, but I couldn't help feel like she was scared about something. Her eyes kept darting off in different directions and it made me very worried. Was she hiding something? Was there something she didn't tell me? Did her parents find out she was going out with a girl and didn't approve? Well I would have to find that out for later.
"You uh, you look great by the way." I said complimenting her.
"Oh, uh... thanks." Forecast replied nervously.
I turned my head back ahead and continued to head on forward.
After 10 more minutes of driving, we finally arrived the restaurant.
"Hello I made reservations for two under Ginger Owlseye" I said to the man working behind the podium. He simply gave me a nod and directed me and Cold over to our table and our eyes gazed around the place.
All around us we could see many plants were hung, there was a major amount of fancy lighting and chandeliers all over the place, the very ground we were standing on was made of marble, and in the room we were eating at, there was a fountain that stood in the middle of it.
So the two of us took a seat and began reading through the menus. And when I glanced up I could see Cold looking a little scared. I could assume she was scared of some of the couples around us. She thought that they were staring at us.
"M-maybe this wasn't such a good idea..." Cold stammered.
"Hey, its okay. Don't worry about them. They're not looking at us." I said as I placed my hand onto hers. She looked back up at me and gave a bit of a smile.
As the waiter came by and took our orders, the two of us eventually struck a conversation.
"So I heard you're planning on taking up acting as a job?" I asked.
She gave me a nod. "I performed in tons of plays when I was a little kid, and that's how that I came invested in it."
"That sounds cool. I should see one of your plays sometime." I responded.
"Well, there is one coming up over at the Manehattan Theater. We're performing Hello Dolly."
That last bit almost made me spit take but I just coughed a bit. Did I hear her correctly?
"Hello Dolly?" I asked sounding a little excited.
"Yeah, that's the one." Cold grinned.
"Oh my gosh, that's my favorite musical! What, w-what part did you get?" I stuttered.
"I don't know yet, but I know that's what we're gonna put on." She replied.
"That sounds amazing! I, uh... don't suppose I could see you perform?" I hesitated.
"I don't see why not. In fact, I can even give you...the time...." Cold stopped talking when her eyes glanced to her right. She looked frozen stiff.
"Cold? Cold you okay?" I asked.
"Oh my gosh, don't look!" Cold quickly said.
"What?"
"I said don't look!" Cold said again and I looked down on the table like she was doing. "You looked, didn't you?"
"Yes I did." I whispered.
"Did they see you?" Cold asked.
"I don't think so."
"Are you sure?"
"I can check." I said as I raised my head back up to look, and from what I saw--
"Dah, don't look!"
I understood why she didn't want to look back. Over at one of the far tables where we could see was Jet Set and Upper Crust, a very high class couple. Both of them looked down on a majority of everyone, except for their friends, and I know for a fact they didn't see kindly to people like us.
"They're looking right at us." I said.
"Just keep your eyes down on the table..." Cold stammered.
Soon I could hear the sounds of footsteps heading towards us. I glanced over real quick and saw they were heading our way, and then looked back down on the table so I didn't upset my date.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" Upper said deviously.
Cold and I eventually looked up and I rolled my eyes. Why of all the times that one of my nights could be ruined it had to be this one?
"Is it cold in here, or is it just you two? I mean you two shouldn't even be in a place such as this. Two ladies dating is just so... disgusting." Jet insulted.
I didn't like the sound of that, and clearly my date didn't either. I could see a look of hurt in her eyes as they watered slightly.
"Why don't you just go back to your own table and leave us alone?" I snarled.
"Because you two don't belong here. Its just so... revolting. I can't believe you're even going with the likes of her. Have you even seen this girl? She's just an outcast on our high society." Upper retorted.
"An utter freak is what she is. I'm surprised her family hasn't kicked her out of her home, especially when such a factor like this could damage our school's reputation." Jet said staring at me with a nasty glare.
But before I could say anything, I heard a voice from a guy a few tables next to us.
"Excuse me, but I think its highly rude of you to assume that just because they're two women together in a restaurant like this is because they're dating. For all we know its probably ladies night."
I recognized that voice, it was Fancypants. He was one of the most friendliest, most kindness, probably best gentleman any of us have ever met. He attends Crystal Prep just like all of us, and everyone remembers him for being an absolute gem for whenever he's around.
"Actually Fancy, we, are actually... on... a date." I hesitated.
"Oh, my sincerest apologies I didn't know." Fancy replied.
"Well they shouldn't be here to begin with its just... ugh. Wrong."
And before I could insult him back, my date quickly ran from the table and into the women's restroom. I could only imagine how much they hurt her. The very though alone aggravated me to no end, and now, they just crossed the line. How could they have been so heartless, so horrible, so.... God!
I zoomed up onto my feet and got up right in Jet's face, my nostrils flaring and my eyebrows furled. They went too far.
"Okay... give me one good reason why I shouldn't beat the living crud out of you right here, right now."
Jet just chuckled a bit and gave me a snarl, "Its incredibly shameful to beat someone up who's telling the truth."
And something I had never in a million years had expected, Fancypants came over and soon got into their faces.
"I for one believe you should just leave. Can't you just let the lady dine alone in peace with her date? And what gives you the right to say those who are different are lower than you?" Fancypants retorted. "So she's not as sophisticated as any of us, but is that really such a problem?"
I had never been afraid of Fancypants before, but dang it, I was actually scared of what he was going to do. Was he gonna beat up Jet Set?
Silence was all that could be heard in the restaurant, and soon everyone was staring at them. Until Jet just groaned in annoyance.
"Fine. Be that way then, stand up for the lower classes why don't you?" Jet snarled as he walked off with his girlfriend with their heads held high keeping their calm composure.
I sighed in relief, I really didn't want there to be a fight in this restaurant. Especially one with those two.
Fancypants then turned his head back to me and he was looking more calm now.
"I'm terribly sorry for that, Ms?"
"Uh, Ginger." I stuttered.
He shook my hand I shook his back.
"Ah yes, Ginger. A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I'm very sorry for their interruption and for upsetting your... date?" Fancypants asked.
My eyes bulged out of my head, I almost forgot about my date. In a flash I ran towards the bathroom to where she ran, and began looking for where she was. All I could see was one stall closed, I could only imagine she was in there crying.
"Cold? Cold are you in there?" I asked sounding concerned.
"No..." She whimpered.
I knew it. They upset my date.
"Hey, its okay. They're gone, Fancypants yelled them out. You can come out now."
"Who says I can come out?"
"Um.... me?" I asked. I had no idea what she was asking.
I began walking towards the stall, and she opened it up allowing me to come in. Her eyes were bloodshot and water, her cheecks were puffy, and it looked like some of the mascara on her face was running down.
I moved over and I held her in a tight hug, allowing her to cry on my shoulder. I rubbed her back, and soon I could hear her calming down.
"I'm sorry... I... I'm just making this the worst date, aren't I?" She said.
"No, you're not..." I said as my hand felt against her cheek. "But, is it alright if I can ask something?"
"S-sure..." She stammered.
"How come you ran off like that?"
She stayed silent for a moment, and cleared more tears from her face. With a heavy sigh, she finally replied. "B-Because... because I'm a freak."
"What?" I asked.
"I'm... I'm a freak. Everywhere I go, I'm always seen as just some monster. No one cares that I exist, and no one ever does." she whimpered.
"No, that's not true. I care. I really do."
"But one person who likes you doesn't mean it can fix anything with your life." She said.
The last sentence intrigued me, and yet worried me.
"What do you mean?"
She took a deep breath, and looked me in the eyes.
"All my life, I've just been seen as some freak. And not many people know it, but I knew when I was a little kid that I liked girls. But, my family didn't know. And, so when I was 13, I tried telling them that I liked girls, they didn't take it well. They just told me things like 'you're too young to understand' or 'you haven't found the right man', or one that just irritated me, they said I was just 'confused'. I tried so hard to keep true to myself, but they just yelled at me and said to never bring it up again. Never... again..."
I held her in a hug and let her rest her head on my shoulder as we sat down on the ground which was surprisingly clean.
"But, don't your parents love you?" I asked.
She looked at me and gave a small nod. "They just don't approve of my dating decisions. Well, at least I used to think that's what they thought..."
Cold then sighed and continued speaking.
"As time went on, when I went to attend different schools, I was too scared to even talk to anyone because of that fight. I never felt like I could be open to anyone around me. That was one of the things that made me who I was, and I never felt like I could be open about it. And... I just stayed away from everyone. Everywhere I went, and to everyone around me... I felt like all I was to them was just... nobody."
I couldn't believe a word she said. This is why she was always quiet at school. This, poor little girl inside was scared of everyone hurting her. I couldn't stand to hear this, but I decided to stay with her.
"Well you're not a nobody to me. In fact, uh... the reason I wanted to go out on this date with you is because... because..."
Now my hands were shaking up just trying to finish. I hoped she wouldn't notice it, but she did.
"Because what?"
"B-because... I love you!" I quickly said.
She was taken aback, and looked at me with shock.
"You...you do?" She quivered.
I sighed. There was no backing out of this one.
"Yeah, I do. When I set my eyes on you, you just seemed so... beautiful. I always wanted to talk to you ever since but... I'm not good with social interaction. I keep stuttering, I keep messing up what I'm saying, I'm just... awkward."
"I don't think you are." Cold said now calm.
I turned my head back to her. "You don't?"
"No. Whenever I saw you, you were never afraid to speak your mind. But... that's not me. I'm just... scared."
I moved over some more and looked into her eyes. "Its okay. Its fine if you're scared. Believe me, I was actually scared to even go on this date, I thought you wouldn't really like me."
"That's ridiculous. I... I do. A little more than just that. And I hope you forgive me for what I'm about to do..."
Without any warning or telling me, she pulled me in and gave me a kiss right on the lips. Oddly enough, I didn't hesitate or pull back, but instead I moved in closer and held her as we kissed. I don't know what it was, maybe it was me giving her comfort, or me listening to her story, or just knowing that I had feelings for her, but at this point I didn't care anymore.
"So...does that mean we're... together?" I asked sounding excited.
"Well, maybe. I think we still need to go on some more dates, but I think we've started out good." Cold said with a smile.
"Oh, well, what do you propose we do then?"
"I say we go on some more dates and see where they go." Cold replied. "Now, what do you say we go back out, enjoy our meal?"
I gave a smile on my face, and helped her back up and gave her another warm hug.
Eventually we stepped back out and walked back to our table, without the nuisance of Jet Set and Upper Crust. I gave my thanks to Fancypants for standing up to us, and our waiter came back with our meals. As we ate on, we finally had some peace and quiet to enjoy each others company, and hopefully we'll become girlfriends, in the future.
