Prologue: Being a good pony will get you nowhere
Bright Star was panting frantically as she cantered for her life from the street hardened unicorns that had been chasing after her for some weeks now. Her magic missile was worthless against them. he had hit them with it several times and nothing happened. The magic just bounced off their chosen garb like she had just thrown pebbles at them.
“Come on poppet, it’s time you went home.” said the taller of the two unicorns as they closed in on her.
Her head whipped around from side-to-side as her magic sight looked for an escape. Seeing no way out, her frantic breathing and whipping around stopped then she turned towards the unicorns.
“No I don’t think so” said Bright Star as her horn started to bubble and glow with a purple and green light. “how about I show you what I can do?” she said before a crystal full of dark energy shot towards the unicorns.
The sudden turn of events caught her pursuers off-guard when Bright Star launched magic in their direction. They had to jump apart to avoid the crystal, watching the it fly past them while they turned to Bright Star, who had started to charge at them—no not at them—between them. They moved to grab her but she shot two more crystals at them, point blank and they barely had a chance to put up shields to protect themselves from the shards of the hastily crafted crystals…
“That filly knows dark magic?! This just went above my pay grade, and skill level, Search.” said the smaller unicorn and the taller one, whose name was Searching Eye, just glared at him.
“Too bad, you signed a contract and we can’t just abandon the search. Council member Gold Star is expecting us to find her, and find her we will.”
Panting against a wall about three blocks away, Bright Star pushed her magic sight to it’s limits keeping an eye on the two ponies that were hunting her. Could they really be here to take her back to her daddy? No, more likely they were Celestia’s dogs. Murder was a serious crime in Equestria. So much so that banishment was actually considered too good of a punishment for it. In fact, it was one of two crimes that still had the death penalty. The other crime was treason.
‘What is with these ponies? All I did was defend myself against rape…’ thought Bright Star as the hunters crossed out of her vision and into oblivion as far as she could tell. ’Well I am safe… for now…’ she thought before she slowly pushed away from the wall and started walking in the other direction, towards freedom…
