Prologue ~

An important yet overdue question.

It all started with a question that came up in Spike's mind, one morning in Ponyville as he awoke early before Twilight even began to stir... Who am I? No, scratch that. Where exactly did I come from? He thought as he carefully dusted the crystal walls of the Castle of Friendship, where he and Twilight Sparkle now called home. This castle had been his and Twilight's home ever since Tirek destroyed the Golden Oaks Library, which was and had been their previous home.  I know Twilight hatched my egg with her magic as a test for Princess Celestia's school for gifted fillies and colts. But where did my egg come from? I know that I'm a dragon, not a pony, so how exactly did Celestia find me? He stood with the feather duster drooping, slightly out of his clawed hand for a bit and a faraway look in his eyes. Wondering about this, his thoughts trailed off.

Suddenly, a loud birdsong snapped him out of his thoughts. "I should finish dusting then go make Twilight some breakfast! She'll be so surprised!" He said out loud to himself, grinning happily as he resumed dusting. The small purple and green dragon went around the whole place, humming a tune as he dusted everywhere that he could safely reach. After a while, he stopped, panting, he wiped his brow. "There! I've dusted everywhere in this whole castle that I can reach! I hope Twilight wasn't expecting me to dust up high" He said panting as he looked up to the very top of the walls and corners of the castle, which were still coated in cobwebs and dust. "Oh well." He shrugged "I know Twilight, she knows I don't have wings or magic like she does. Speaking of which, I should probably go start on that breakfast before she wakes up." He said out loud to himself once again and headed toward the kitchen.

Once he reached the kitchen, he looked around for a step stool that Twilight kept in the kitchen so he could cook and bake whenever he liked. After he located the step stool, he went and collected the ingredients, dishes and kitchen tools that, he would need to make a delicious pancake breakfast for Twilight and him to enjoy.  It took him a while but after some trial and errors. (and maybe a mess or two.. as he had ended up spilling some flour everywhere. oops?) He had finished making the best pancake breakfast that he had made with his own hands (err.. claws?), if he did say say so himself.  He sniffed, getting a whiff of the heavenly aroma, that was now wafting off of the stacks of fresh pancakes. "These pancakes smell delicious!" He grinned as he remembered last week's get-together.  "I think that they might be even better then my last batch that I made for everypony, when Twilight invited the others over for breakfast last week! I hope Twilight likes them!" He said smiling and placed the plates of pancakes into a serving cart (*link in author's notes to see what )  He went and picked up a plate, which was full of toppings, cut up strawberries cherries, chocolate chips and crushed up cookies. He placed the plate of toppings onto the serving cart beside the plates of pancakes, then he picked up two tall glasses and placed them onto the cart. And lastly, he carefully picked the pitcher of orange juice and placed it onto the cart as well.

After he was sure that he had everything, he grabbed the handle of the serving cart and gently wheeled it out of the kitchen and down the hall to the main room where the Cutie Mark Map table centered in the middle of the room.  The Cutie Mark Map was a huge table with a map of all of Equestria on it and had matching six tall stone chairs, with outlines of the main six's cutie marks on the back of each one. The map also had glowing versions of the main six's cutie marks show up, onto it whenever there was a friendship problem to be solved. At least Twilight didn't mind using it for an actual table as long they cleaned up afterwords. He stopped the cart carefully then unloaded it, putting a plate of pancakes on the table in front of Twilight's chair, which had the outline of her cutie mark on the back of it. He just placed his plate in front of the chair next to hers and did the same with the tall glasses, then he put the plate of pancake toppings in the middle of the table.  After he was done with this, he headed down the hall towards Twilight's room to wake her up, if she wasn't already up that is.

He opened the door to her room "Twilight? Are you awake?" He asked as the door creaked open, letting sunlight flow into the room. "Now, I am." She replied mumbling as she awoke up and rubbed her eyes. "What is it, Spike? Is the Castle on fire?" She looked around the room with her eyes wide, searching for any signs of danger. "Is the Cutie Map glowing? Is there a emergency? Are you hurt and bleeding?!" She asked him with all seriousness intended. "No." He shook his head "I just made you breakfast, geez Twilight. Were you having a bad dream?" He asked confused as to why she was being so serious this early in the day. Twilight doesn't normally wake up and act serious like this. I wonder if she did have a bad dream, I would be serious too if I had a bad dream.. "Oh, sorry about that, Spike. I did have a bad dream and lots of horrible things were happening to my friends that I couldn't stop.. But breakfast sounds good right now." She replied smiling  "Oh good, because I have a question that I want to ask over breakfast" He said grinning and led the way to the main room.
