Darkness had taken root within Equestria. It was a curse far stronger than what anyone surmised, one that tainted the very goddesses themselves as it swept across the land. From the mightiest Alicorn to the lowliest of ponies, the curse had become one with their very beings. Shadow and uncertainty came in the very wake of this curse, leaving those all who were branded to wonder what was to come of them.

It was certain however, from this curse, that it'd started to eat away at those who'd lived. Ponies of power and rank found themselves usurped, weakened by the curse that gnawed away at both memories and body. It was soon enough that the very first hollow was born from this curse, undying and doomed to live a life of torment and hunger.

Centuries blew by as the curse consumed more of the population. Nary was there a cure in sight, and the Princesses had kept their silence since it'd surfaced... many had renounced the crown, while many more had still held onto their belief in it. While everyone had done their best to hold onto what remained of their livelihoods, their time was slowly coming to an end...
