The Legion and The Ponies (Edited)

Pain... Pain was all Vesperianus could feel. His whole body ached as he lay on the soft grass, trying to fall asleep to rid himself of the pain. When he remembers everything that happened... The Rebels... The fire... The ash... It was enough to jolt him awake. He quickly sat up and looked around to see his legion, scattered and laying on the ground. Even the horses from the cavalry were asleep, and everyone around him looked somewhat... different. But that did not matter, as he had to get his legion up in order to find out what is going on. And more importantly, where they are, for the trees are definitely not native to eastern Britannia. As he stares at the trees, a few groans from some Auxiliaries and Legionnaires who are just waking up take his mind back to his original thoughts.

"WAKE UP MEN!"

Just as he expected, many of the men instantly bolt awake by the stern voice of their commander. He felt a hint of joy at the sight of their discomfort of just waking up but, he cannot enjoy it for long, as he needs to give orders.

"Alright men, wake up anyone who is still asleep and fall in line right here, and tell the cavalry to make sure their horses are still alive." His orders reverberated through the empty forest as it turns from silent to a frenzy of soldiers. They rushed around to find their cohorts and line up with their comrades, as well as help those who are just waking up, along with the Cavalry who are trying to wake their horses.

"This will do, I guess. Now, does anyone know where we are, and what the hell happened with those rebels." He is met with instant silence.

"Well?! Nobody?"
One Centurion walks up from his cohort

"Well sir, from what I understood from their... chanting, it appears they were doing some sort of ritual to, and I quote, "Take the invaders far away." sir." The centurion then steps back in line as the army stays silent.

"Hmm... Then... that means we may be in a different part of the world. And can someone please wake up my horse." Vesperianus bellowed irritatedly, as an archer runs up to attempt to wake the horse.

"Now I wa-"

"Nuu, five more minutes" the horse complained as it lay on its side... and to the shock of every soldier within earshot who now looked at the horse as if it had 3 heads. Which it might as well have had.

"Did the horse just talk!" yelled the archer who tried to wake it up.

"Ugh, I can't sleep with all this noise, guys" horse #1 bellows as it gets up on all fours. "I can't even get some sleep after marching with an armored guy on my back... What, is there something on my face?"

As the Horse #1 attempts to turn around to see the nonexistent item on its face, the whole Legion stands stunned. The horse just talked, and is prancing around right in front of them. At this time a few of the light-hearted recruits and Auxiliaries faint, while the rest all look at each other and whisper.

"I guess there's nothing on my face. So, Vesperianus, what are we doing next?"

"I-I uh... you... you talk!" stammers Vesperianus in a panicked tone.

"Huh. I guess I can. Finally, I can voice my opinion!... Wait, where are we, weren't we just engulfed in flames?"

"That is what we're trying to find out... And, well... You started talking..." Vesperianus replies slowly, as he is still trying to wrap his head around how his bloody horse can talk now.
And to add more confusion, the rest of the horses began to awaken, each getting less and less surprised shock by the troops as they find out, all the previously mindless horses can talk, and can think like a human.

-One Cluster-Fuck Later-

"Alright now that we got the... horse situation under control, it's time we find out where we are and try to find any roads. So, all Cavalry shall ride in pairs.. or I guess quads, as the horses now count as a person. You shall scout around the forest to locate any signs of where we are and how we got here, while the rest of us shall gather any supplies we can and take count of how many of us were transported here... Well, what are you waiting for?! The emperor to come?! GET MOVING!!" He orders as everyone starts running to do as their told. Cavalry mounted up, in a much more awkward fashion than ever before, and the Auxiliaries and Legionnaires quickly start gathering their armor, weapons, and supplies, which was strewn about.
POV Change- Seranchi, Cavalryman, 9th Legion, Roman Empire.

"So, you remember everything we did, every battle we previously won, and everything we've said?" Seranchi asks his trustworthy horse, whom he has had for years.

"Yep, pretty much, it's kinda like I was mute the whole time and just now choose to speak. Also, aren't we supposed to look out for roads or something?"

"Yeah, you see anything?"

"Yes, we're walking on a road." States the sarcastic Mount.

"Ah, yes... well, let us go report it to-" Seranchi is cut off as his partner points out that the horses now have pictures on their flanks. Both with the SPQR symbol in between two olive branches.

"When did that get on my flank? I don't remember that being there." questions the horse.

"I don't know, but that's not important. Let's see where this road leads so we can finally find out where we are."

As the riders and horses continue to travel down the paved stone road, and continue to chat and ask questions about their steeds. After some time, they came across the edge of the forest, and what appeared to be a massive field of trees with red fruit-like objects hanging in the branches, and a small town far off down the path that goes in between the tree groves.

"Uhh, I think we found a town, but I can't say I've never seen trees and fruit like those before. We're definitely not in The Empire anymore." States Seranchi's co-rider. "I think we should go tell the Legion before something happens."

"I think so too. Come on, let's go steed, back to the legion!" The horses gallop back the way they came to tell the legion of the town and the stone path...

POV Change- Princess Twilight Sparkle, Princess/Scholar, Equestria

Meanwhile, on a train heading from Canterlot to Ponyville, sat the Elements of Harmony on their way to investigate the rogue teleportation spell that went awry.

"Alright, so from my calculations, the spell activated somewhere north of Applejack's farm, in the Whitetail Woods. Not only that, but a large amount of magic was drained to cast the spell, so whatever it teleported must be massive." Twilight states as she explains the situation to the rest of the Mane 6, with multiple degrees of emotion to the subject.

"I bet that whatever it is, we can kick its flank" Rainbow Dash proudly states as if she's boasting about the victory before it even occurs.

"Rainbow, we don't know what was teleported, it could be a mountain for all we know. In fact, the only things we do know are that whatever was teleported is in Whitetail Woods and that it's big. Otherwise, it wouldn't have drained so much energy from around Equestria if it was just a rock or a pony."

"Pfft, that's boring, I hope it's some awesome monster that we can fight, there haven't been any good adventures lately since you took down Starlight all on your own."

While the pair continues to argue about what the object that was teleported was, Shining armor steps onto the train and heads to the arguing duo.

"Hey, Twily!"

"Shining!" Twilight abandons the argument with Rainbow to go hug her brother. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, Princess Celestia wanted me here to help you find what the teleportation spell brought, and to protect you in case it is dangerous."
At that moment, a small group of 10 royal guards walks past the Mane 6 and Shining to take their seats farther down the train.

"Is that really necessary? I mean, we appreciate the help, but I'm pretty sure we can handle anything some dumb teleportation spell brought." Rainbow says to Shining, as both Shining and Twilight roll their eyes and Rainbow's overconfidence. "Besides, Twilight is a princess now, and she can just zap whatever tries to hurt us."

"I know that Rainbow, but Celestia wants to be sure you're in no trouble, and you're a princess now, so that means you always need at least a few guards nearby at all times." Shining says, informing Rainbow.

"What? Since when?" Twilight questioned, as she is not comfortable with always having guards around.

"There's been a few human revolts occurring in smaller towns. They've been put down, but many guards have been injured. We don't want you targeted, because once they get their dirty hands on you, they would actually have some leverage on us."

"Ugh, fine. But only because Celestia said so" Pouts twilight as the train heads into Ponyville.

As the Friendship Express pulled into Ponyville station, the Mane 6, Shining Armor, and the 10 guards he brought all step out into the town station. As the citizens of Ponyville watch the princess, and her entourage strides through the town, many bow, which causes a blush to form on the new princess. It's not until they reach Applejack's farm that they finally catch up to Applejack, who ran ahead of them to check up on the farm.

"Hey, y'all. Sorry for leaving ya behind, but I had to make sure Big Mac and Applebloom could handle managing the humans to pick the apples." Applejack tells the approaching group as she sits on one of the fence posts that surround the farm.

"It's alright Applejack, we know you're always worrying about your farm when you're not here." Rarity replies.

"Yeah, yeah, I know it's silly, but I just can't be away from mah farm for too long, it means too much ta' me," Applejack says while looking towards the apple fields, glancing at the groups of humans picking the apples in the distance.

"Geez AJ, enough sappy stuff. Let's go see what that spell brought into whitetail woods, now lead the way AJ," Exclaims Rainbow Dash with vigor as she does a backflip mid-air, "I really want to kick that monster's flank."

As the group collectively rolls their eyes, Applejack Leads the group through the apple farm and onto a trail heading north of the barn.

"Alright, this should be the road that leads to Whitetail Woods, ah know it by heart since it's the same road I use to travel to the farther apple fields. It's also the same road we use durin' cider season," Applejack politely informs the group and guards as she walks along with them.

"Hey, there's the entrance to the woods, and... what's that?" Rainbow points to two large brown dots far down the road, with silver and red on it as well. But before Shining can pull out a telescope they darted back into the woods. "What if those are the things that the spell brought?"

"Can't be, the spell was massive and those things couldn't have taken much magic to teleport, they were probably just some local wildlife." Twilight states.

"Um, Twilight, I don't mean to be rude but... I've never seen anything of that size in whitetail woods. It's usually just home to birds and small animals, not big ones like in the Everfree." Fluttershy shyly informs the group as she tries to hide in her sweater for suddenly being the center of attention.

"Well, what do you think it could be then? Another animal?" Twilight asks Fluttershy.

"W-Well... I've never seen any animals like that... unless it's a breed of big dogs." Fluttershy responds.

"Guys, we're wasting time! Let's go chase the thing and find out what it wants!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed before running down the path with the rest of the group on her heels.

"Rainbow! Wait for us!" Shining yells after the speedster.

Author's Note

And there is this chapter done. Thank you if your still reading and haven't given up on me. I plan to make the chapters longer as the first of you who read this story mentioned. And the first two chapters are now combined into one prologue chapter.

Also i might take suggestion on where the story will lead, such as "have them meet here" or "this happens", to a certain extent. I wont do it often but if i do i will leave a shout out to those i took inspiration from in the authors notes.
