Twilight Sparkle's Struggle (PART 1)by Fable SparksChaptersThe Trip to Camp EverfreeTwilight and SunsetMidnight SparkleThe Trip to Camp EverfreeTwilight Sparkle rushed to Canterlot High as fast as she could, Spike struggling to stay in her bag, which she forgot to close. Eventually, she did make it, and jumped onto the bus as quickly as possible. Sunset Shimmer was sat down already, and Twilight sat down next to her. "Twilight, are you OK? You almost missed the bus." Sunset asked, aware of how early Twilight normally was for school. "I'm fine, Sunset. I must have slept in" Twilight replied, turning her head away to hide a tear that was coming out of her eye. The bus began to move. Principal Celestia informed the students of the week-long trip to Camp Everfree, and everybody was excited for the trip, though Twilight was completely blank to what was going on, her mind entirely focused on Midnight Sparkle at this point. Spike then decided to clamber out of Twilight's school bag, and talk to Sunset about how rough of a wake-up call he had, and was away to talk about Twilight's nightmare, before a look from the latter silenced him. "Twilight, are you sure everything is OK? You've kind of been, acting up, since the Friendship Games. No offense." Twilight glanced at Sunset, before writing in her journal again. "Yeah, I'm certain everything is statistically going well." Sunset moved closer to Twilight. "How was last night for you?" Twilight hid her face to prevent others noticing the sudden rush of red. "It was most enjoyable. I hope we might get a moment in camp where it's just us two." Sunset gave a re-assuring smile and nod as the bus came to a slow halt. "Look's like we are here. Twilight, in a rather Maud-like tone, and without any blush, said "Yay." Twilight and SunsetSunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle were sat down beside each other, smiles across their faces, looking into each other's eyes. "You know, I've been meaning to apologize", Sunset began, "for the way I treated you during the Friendship Games." "It's OK, Sunset. You don't have to apologize." Twilight answered, still as happy as she was before. Sunset very carefully moved her hand closer to Twilight's, trying hard to make sure the purple-haired nerdy girl didn't notice. Eventually, Twilight began to do the same thing, subtly moving her hand toward Sunset's, until the two hands connected. Both girls' cheeks shone a bright red, and they looked at each other once more. "S-Sunset, can I...do something? Just while it's the two of us?" Twilight asked shyly. Sunset nodded in agreement, waiting in anticipation for what Twilight was going to do. Suddenly, Twilight held Sunset in a warm embrace, their two faces so close together, you would swear they were going to kiss each other. "I...I guess I kind of...l-love you, Sunset." Sunset Shimmer blushed at Twilight's words, but gave the same embrace back to Twilight, and gave a gentle kiss upon the young girl's lips. "Me too Twilight, but maybe just keep this between us, OK?" Twilight nodded in agreement and returned Sunset's kiss with one just as gentle and welcoming as hers. "Agreed. Well, I should be going now. I enjoyed being with you tonight." "Me too Twilight, me too." Sunset replied as the purple-haired girl ran off in excitement to her brother and sister-in-law. "Wow...what a girl." Midnight SparkleAfter her romantic afternoon out with her friend, Twilight decided to call it a night and head to bed. She got changed, made sure Spike was fed and walked (he was a dog after all), and hopped into her bed after reading a book that was given to her by Principal Celestia as a welcome gift to Canterlot High. Twilight was deep asleep, and was already entering a dream state. Her dream took place on a warm summer's day, and she was laying on the grass, taking in the serenity and beauty of the day. Sunset Shimmer was laid down next to her, also basking in the sun's rays. However, this peacefulness did not last long, as the sun turned into a swirl of strange purple energy. Twilight and Sunset watched in confusion, though their looks quickly changed to ones of fear and terror as the energy took on an all too familiar shape. "Miss me, Twilight?!" the figure called out. Twilight backed away in horror as the figure began to show it's true colours, revealing itself to be none other, than Midnight Sparkle. "How are you still here? I managed to defeat you at the Friendship Games!" "Oh yeah, thanks for that by the way. I've been meaning to return the favor!" Midnight sneered as she charged a bolt of magical energy, firing it at Sunset, reducing the young girl to nothing but particles in the air. Twilight Sparkle was struck with horror. The only person who truly understood how she felt, gone forever. She backed away from Midnight as far as she could, until she felt the ground beneath her disappear, and before she knew it, she was floating in air. Midnight Sparkle rose up to face her counterpart. "Tell me this, Twilight. When you release several magical elements upon yourself, and then you are defeated, what are the after effects?" Twilight was silent, Sunset's death still fresh on her mind. Midnight waited for an answer, before deciding to treat the situation as though as was asking sarcastically. "Well, small fragments of the magic cling onto your mind, manifesting themselves over time, until it finds a way to crawl into your soul. It just so happens that I am the manifestation of that leftover magic, and I will not stop until your mind," Midnight smiled madly, "and your body are ALL mine!" Midnight flew back a little bit before ramming herself into Twilight's body, causing the young girl to sprout wings and a horn. Twilight clasped her head in agony as her inner demon tried to crawl out. "No...STOP!!!" Twilight woke up screaming and breathing quickly, sweating as well for some reason, her fast motion knocking Spike off the bed. "It's..just a dream..." Twilight spoke quietly before she realized she had slept in, and was going to be late for the school bus.
