Chapter 1: Muffin Making

Little Derpy put on her favourite white Chef's hat, although her Mother had told her many times that the Chef's hat was actually called a toque blanche. The tall, round, pleated, starched white hat was then officially named 'Derpy's Chef Hat' by the young filly herself. Derpy had decided to make her first batch of her favourite delicious, homemade muffins that her Mother had always baked for her. The filly wanted to impress and surprise her Mother by baking her some warm, tasty muffins so she decided to start making the muffins when her Mother had left for work.

Little Derpy started off by placing a big, round mixing bowl on top of the kitchen counter that she could barely reach. Then, she took out all the ingredients she was going to need from the kitchen cabinets. She placed them all on the kitchen counter, the heavy bag of flour almost slipping from her hooves. She then proceeded to preheat the oven, like her Mother's cookbook told her to do.

But as little Derpy started to mix the ingredients in the mixing bowl while standing on a stool, that was when disaster struck. As she struggled to stir the mixture with a wooden brown spoon and stand on the stool without toppling over, she accidentally knocked over a carton of milk, spilling the milk all over her Mother's cookbook. Derpy gasped and tried to move the cookbook away from the milk that was starting to spill from the counter and onto the marble floor. But as she was doing so, she knocked over a box of baking powder, causing it to pour into the mixing bowl.

"Oh no..." Squeaked little Derpy.

Derpy placed her Mother's cookbook on a different kitchen counter. She rushed back to the mixing bowl to try and stop the baking powder from spilling into the bowl. As she made her way to the bowl, she accidentally slipped on the spilt milk on the floor. She slid across the marble kitchen floor and bumped into the kitchen counter. The bump caused a box of sugar to topple and fall. Most of the sugar fell into the mixing bowl and the rest of the sugar fell into Derpy's mane.

Derpy shook her head vigorously, trying desperately to get the sugar out of her blonde mane. Little Derpy looked up at the bowl.

"I'm sure it's still fine, even if I don't have the rest of the instructions..." Derpy looked at the wet and now-impossible-to-read-from recipe from her Mother's cookbook, shrugging.

She picked up the bowl and poured the mixture unevenly on a muffin tray. She then used her muzzle to carry the tray to the oven and placed the tray into it. She closed the oven with her hoof and trotted to her bedroom where she began to play with her toys.

It wasn't until she smelt a crisp burningĀ  smell coming from the kitchen that she stopped playing with her toys.
