Chapter One
My name is Big Macintosh and I am in love with a stallion I can never have. Ten years ago I was alone and scared. I had gotten lost on the field trip to Canterlot; of course the teacher was looking for me, but that was after they arrived back at ponyville. This is how it all began.
I ran as fast as I could down the streets of canterlot afraid and cold feeling the sting of the icy mix hitting my fur. I was truly lost as I ran directly into a door at the end of street falling unconscious as I lay there. Little did I know a nice colt just happened to open the door to find me. I woke up later to hear the voice of a colt whining to what seemed like his parents. “Mom, Dad, Why can’t I keep him? He’s like a brother I always wanted!” Apparently they weren’t allowing it because the mother told him no. I got up and followed the voices hoping whomever these ponies were they could help me.
I entered what appeared to be the living room and saw the ponies responsible for the noise. “uhm… h-hi… i-I am l-lost…” I said meekly and scared. They looked and grinned. “oh good your awake you gave us quite a scare young colt.” The mother said as she rubbed my cheek gently. “How about we call your parents?” She said as she grabbed the phone. I told her the number and she called while the young colt who found me. He was pure white like the snow and his mane was blue and well maintained while I looked raggedy. He didn’t have a cutiemark but I didn’t mind because I didn’t have mine either.
“Hi I’m Shining Armor whats your name?” The colt said. I blushed and whispered to him. “I’m Big Macintosh… but you can call me Mac if you want.” He grinned and nuzzled my cheek. “It is nice to meet you Mac. Want to play twister?” I nodded and grinned as well as he pulled out a big sheet with all kinds of circles of different colors. I was nervous at first but as the game went on I was having fun. Then it happened the first moment I knew Shining Armor was different than anypony else.
I ended up spending the night with him as we stayed up all night. Thing was I was more happy spending time with him than being on the farm. Then when I thought it couldn’t get any better something amazing happened. Granny Smith invited Shining Armor to come to the farm every summer and have fun as long as he wanted to. I was happy and I was ready to finally have a friend besides the pigs and chickens. The winter past and the spring came and i wrote letters to him every week happy to receive some of them from him as well. He said in one letter he finally had a little sister named Twilight Sparkle. Funny thing is my sister was born two days later. Applejack was something amazing in my life until she grew up but we will save that for later.
Finally after the spring it finally turned summer; the time shining and I had been waiting for all spring and winter. Granny smith and I went to the train station to meet them so they didn’t get lost but we were late… luckily they figured the massive farm up the hill near ponyville was where we were so we met on the path. Shining was happy to see me but I was even happier. Shining was so excited to see the farm and I was excited to spend time with him, I didn’t even realize he had his cutie mark already. There it was an amazing shield with sparkles on it. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt being a blank flank.
Without even realizing it when I showed him the barn I started crying. He was so amazing having a cutie mark and I didn’t. Shining didn’t even tell me he finally got it. “Hey buddy why are you crying?” Shining said as he gently placed a hoof on my shoulder. “I-I didn’t know you had a cutiemark… you never told me. I thought you didn’t have one like me.” I cried and screamed hurt and upset. “I just got it Mac! I got it on the way to your house. I got excited when a squirrel fell out of a tree and I put a shield up and I realized I was good at it and here it is..” Shining said as he rubbed his cutiemark. “I’m sorry Shining I hadn’t realized that it could have happened between the time we sent the last letters.” I said as the colt suddenly hugged me. “Mac I would never keep something from you intentionally. Why would you think I would hurt you Mac? Your my best friend in the whole wide world.” Shining said as he held me close. That’s when I knew I had a friend for life.
That day we had so much fun on the farm. We practiced apple bucking and we even played buckball together with rainbow dash; a mare from Cloudsdale that moved with her parents. Shining liked her a lot and even started flirting with her. I felt kind of jealous that Shining paid more attention to the rainbow colored mare than me. After all, I knew more about Shining and was his friend first. I was just glad he was spending the summer. Later that evening, Shining and I enjoyed some nice pie and wonderful hayburgers. I’m glad I got to spend the day with him after all who wouldn’t like shining he’s tough kind and a wonderful friend. What really got my mind roaming was when we started to go to bed. “psst… Mac you awake?” Shining whispered. “Yeah I’m awake, what’s wrong buddy?” I said as I turned on the light. “C-can I sleep with you? I don’t like to sleep alone in places I have never been before.” Shining said as he stood face to face with me. I took his hoof and lead him into the bed slowly laying down as he laid beside me. I whispered softly to him. “You are never alone with me shining. I won’t ever let you be alone when you don’t want to be.” Shining slid under the sheets as well and hugged me tight. “Thanks Mac I would do the same for you anytime.” Shining whispered as we fell asleep together for the first night of that summer.
