Chapter 2: Ideas

Previous Chapter

Applejack awoke with an idea. If she really wanted fame, she had to work for it.

But did she really want fame? Applejack thought this through for a few minutes, and she decided yes. Yes, she did want fame. She wanted to be noticed.

She could try to break some world records for strength, or rodeo, or apple - bucking. It would be easy, she did these things so often and it was her passion. How hard could it be?

She trotted out into the kitchen. If she was going to break some records, a good breakfast was one way to start.

She took five apples and began to munch down each one quickly, a million thoughts racing around her head.

"Hey AJ!"

The voice startled Applejack. She turned around and saw Apple Bloom standing in the doorway.

"Watcha doin'?"

"Eatin' breakfast, why?"

"Just wonderin'. But, I dunno, somethin' about that tone of ya voice sounds like you're tryin' to hide somethin'..." Apple Bloom remarked.

Applejack grunted. "Fine, I'll tell ya the truth...Ah'm gonna try breakin' some records or somethin'...y'know, to be famous?"

"That's cool, but..." Apple Bloom's expression turned into an evil grin. "Ya know, there are other ways to become famous. Like becomin' a psychotic murderer!"

Applejack smiled. "Ha ha, maybe another day, Apple Bloom. But Ah gotta try breakin' a record for the strongest buck."

Become a psychotic murderer, Applejack thought. Maybe that ain't such a bad idea... She tried to erase this thought from her mind. What the hay, Applejack? Why are you havin' thoughts as disgustin' as this? You're insane, you stupid filly.

"Ah'll go tell Granny and Mac!" Apple Bloom said, racing off excitedly. Applejack didn't try to stop her; there would be no use.

She galloped out of the back door of the barn. She was amazed that the high striker - the tall, wooden pole with the shiny red bell at the top - was still there from the time when herself and Rainbow Dash held the Iron Pony Competition. She bucked with all her might and kicked at the bottom. The weight shot up and hit the bell, letting out a huge ringing sound that filled the air that could be heard from miles away.

The earth pony was proud of herself. But it'll take a lot more than that to break the record, Applejack.

She trained herself all day. She kicked and bucked at the wooden pole relentlessly for hours on end without a break. She stopped when she realised the sun was already at its peak at the top of the sky and she was sweating like crazy.
