I along with everyone else had a difficult time with the homework Miss Cheerilee gave us over the weekend. I asked them if they they had been able to finish it. Everyone shook their heads as we walked into class. We all sat down and Miss Cheerilee greeted us. She walked from desk to desk, taking the papers to grade. She was almost done collecting the homework and not a single person finished it. But then she got to Diamond Terra's desk. She just started here about a few days ago and she's not well liked amongst the other students or with the teacher.
She had a habit of not doing what she's told and tends to challenge Miss Cheerilee. She's always causing trouble, lying, and had a mean personality to boot. She was very difficult to talk to and didn't have any friends.
"Diamond Tiara... Where's your paper?" Miss Cheerilee asked, nicely.
"My dog ate it," Diamond Tiara replied.
"You have a dog? What's its name?" Cheerilee asked.
"Uh..." Diamond Tiara said, biting her lip.
She looked around the room.
"Well, it's..."
Then she looked at Applebloom.
"Well, it wasn't my dog, it was her dog," she said, pointing at her.
"What?!" Applebloom yelled, surprised. "Are you talking about me? How do you know I have a dog?" she asked.
"It's not hard to tell. You smell like one after all," Diamond Tiara said.
Applebloom grumbled under her breath and turned her attention back to the front of the room.
"Anyway, blame her dog. It was her dumb dog's fault," Diamond Tiara added.
Applebloom turned around again and asked,
"You know her name too? Do you follow me around or something?"
Yes, she was definitely a problem but in a way... I felt bad for her.
"Maybe," Diamond Tiara said, sticking her tongue out. "Anyways, please excuse me because it wasn't my fault!"
She tried to play innocent as she said that. The teacher sighed and I knew nobody believed her but there was no arguing with her. Miss Cheerilee feeling defeated said, "You'll have to redo it for homework tonight."
"Whatever," Diamond Tiara said, shrugging it off.
Applebloom glared at her and mumbled something but it was too quiet to make out. Diamond Tiara winked at her, further annoying her. When the school bell rang, Diamond Tiara began to walk home alone. I realize it was a long shot but maybe... She just needed a friend. Maybe her attitude would change if she has a friend to talk to. I started to run after her and within a few seconds, I was behind her. I tapped on her shoulder to get her attention.
"What you want?" she asked.
"I noticed you walking alone, and thought maybe I could tag along," I said.
She scoffed as I said that.
"Walking with you? Yea, fat chance. Get lost," she said, pushing me away.
I couldn't give up. Not just yet. I knew if kept at it, she would eventually agree. I continued to walk next to her but she seemed to get more annoyed by the second.
"What's your problem? You don't have anything better to do?" she asked.
I shook my head. Maybe if I introduce myself, she'll open up.
"My name’s Silver Spoon," I said with a smile.
"Silver Spoon? Well, it's better than dumb name like Apple Bloom. Seriously, it's such a typical name and doesn't have any class," she said.
Geez, how brutal. Still, if I wanted to get on her good side, I had better play alone.
"Yea, it's so old fashion right?" I asked, faking a laugh.
She smiled but barely. It seems insulting others was more of her cup of tea. That was obvious but still.
"Let's walk home together!" I said.
"Let's not," she said.
"Let's be friends," I said.
"How bout no," she said.
"Why not?" I asked.
She stopped in her tracks and looks directly at me.
"Look, you look and sound better than the rest of those dumb kids but that doesn't make us friends. Now, go away," she demanded.
I started to feel defeated but if I didn't help her, who would? Everyone in class hated her and nobody else will even try to open up to her. I knew there had to be some kindness in her. I just had to dig it out. I said the first thing that came to mind.
"Wait, let's go to my house! If you don't like it, I'll leave you alone for good," I said.
She turned around and seemed to be thinking. It's not much but it was a start. She appeared to be interested with looks and talking. She sighed and shrugged at what I said.
"If I do this, will you really leave me alone?" she asked.
"That's right!" I said.
She was reluctant but finally she caved in.
"Fine, but it better be worth it," she said.
I smiled and it was the first time she had shown some type of emotion other than anger.
"Has anypony ever told you that you sound really grouchy, D.T?" I asked.
"What did you just call me?" She asked.
"D.T. What, nobody calls you that?" I asked, surprised.
"No, I just go by full name," she said, somewhat flustered.
"Well, then I'll be the first one to call you that then! You can call me S.S okay?" I said.
"No. I only want to be called by my full name," she said.
"Okay, I'll have everything set up within a hour. Come by then, OK D.T?" I asked, ignoring her complaint.
"Ah, are you even listening?" she asked.
"Oh, and I'll make sure there's sweets as well." I said, chuckling.
"Fine, I'll come, now leave me alone, she said.
"Aw, has anyone ever mentioned you sound cute when you’re mean?" I asked, looked away.
She didn't reply and walked away. Somehow, I knew we're gonna be really great friends. Thinking back over it, I probably should have pulled back a little. I wonder just how close I came to pushing her away, and that would have been bad. My goal was to see the real her and become friends after all. I ran back home and started to search the house for every sweet available. Lucky, my parents weren't home right now so it made things even easier. After setting everything up, I heard a knock at the door. Must be D.T. I thought I went to open the door and I was right.
"Hey, you made it," I said, smiling.
"Yea, I did. Now let's get this over with," she said, walking in.
We went upstairs to my room. We got on the bed, and I noticed she was looking around seeing what I had. This would be the perfect time to ask her some questions.
"What's your favorite color?" I asked.
"Light Purple," she replied.
"Where's your dog?"
"I don't really have one."
"Why is your hair so long?"
"I like it that way."
"Have you ever lived somewhere else?"
"Yes."
"Are you-"
"Would you be quiet? What's with all the questions!?" she asked.
She grabbed a magazine and started to read.
"What are you reading?" I asked.
She sighed and replied, "Just something about the town."
"Which part exactly?" I asked.
"Not sure yet. From what I've read, it's just someone getting a reward," She lowered the magazine and looked at me coldly. “It’s nothing worth noting, she replied annoyed.
"Is it interesting?" I asked, trying to sneak a peek over.
"Not really but, I've got nothing better to do," she said, shrugging.
"Do you like to read?"
"Kinda," she said, continuing to read.
I moved closer and tried to read the paper. I realized that I've been doing all the talking. I should let her ask some questions.
"You can ask me some questions if you want," I said.
"I don't really want to know anything about you. I only showed up because you wouldn’t leave me alone otherwise." she said, rudely.
"Then let's play a game," I said.
"No," she said.
"It wasn't a question. We're gonna play now," I said, enforcing it.
She looked at me. "You can't make me."
"You have to do it," I said.
She arced an eyebrow at me. "Or else what?" she asked
I thought about it what she said. Suddenly, I got it. When all else failed, I could try my last resort. I smiled mischievously.
"Or else this!" I said, tickling her.
"Hey, hey, stop! Cut it out!" she said laughing.
She laughed and laughed, burying her head in the pillow.
"You sure are ticklish, aren't you?" I asked, continuing to tickle her.
She tried to speak but she was laughing to hard to be able to reply.
"Surrender and play with me or I won't stop!" I said.
She was too busy laughing to respond. The tickling continued for quite some time before she fell off the bed. I was laughing too hard when she fell. As I continued to laugh, she dragged me off the bed and started to tickle me. We entered a tickle fight and after a few minutes, we lay on the ground smiling. I was able to finally catch my breath long enough to speak.
"So, what are your parents like?" I asked.
She was thinking about it what I said. After about a few minutes, she spoke.
"Well... My dad is kinda boring. He makes a lot of money and is not always home. I'm usually home alone most of the time and I spend most of my time in my room. Sometimes I go out and tease Apple Bloom and her friends," she said.
"Oh?" I asked.
"Yeah. After all, I've got nothing better to do," she said.
"Doesn't that get boring after awhile?" I asked.
"Yeah, I guess but what else can I do? I get bored playing with my toys so sometimes, well, I usually break them just to do something different," she replied.
"Well you shouldn't do that. Just because your rich doesn't mean you should break your stuff. That's no good, although you do have a point," I said.
"Funny, that's what my father told me but I don't really care what anyone says or thinks about me," she said with a smile.
"I can relate. I don't care what people think about me either. I usual just do whatever I feel like," I said, smiling back.
I noticed she was looking around confused. That must have been the first time she's opened up to someone. It looked like all of my effort was worth it if she was calm and happy for once. She looked back at me.
"What should we do now?" she asked.
"We can go mess with Applebloom," I said, offering a suggestion.
"I guess, but seriously, S.S, why did you want to hang out with me?" she asked.
"Well, I just thought that you-- Wait, you called me S.S!" I said.
She blushed and said, "S-So what? That's what you wanted me to call you and so I'm just saying it to be nice. Jeez..."
"Aw, you're so mean!" I said, hugging her.
She scoffed, but she knew I was right.
So that's the story of how Diamond Tiara and I became friends. Even to this day… I still don't regret my choice in being her friend. While everyone in my class dislikes her, she's still my friend. She hasn't changed much, but she has toned down with her act a bit. I may be a follower but in the end, she's my friend and that won't change.
