The day after the incident, Nightshade stayed in the medical ward, watching a comforting her kids. She knew that Sapphire would bounce back, she always tried to be positive and make her smile. Her real worry was that Mantis wouldn't make it; he was almost fully drained and wasn't breathing properly when she brought them there. And as a result of her worries, she barely left them unattended: day in and day out, she'd only leave to shower and get something small to eat and drink, but immediately after she was done that she would return to them. It was an understatement to say that she was a little depressed, and her family knew how badly the toll had taken on her already small body. She was now more thin and barely moved from her spot between the beds between them, even at night she did all she could to give them pleasant dreams, and after the fifth day, Luna couldn't take it anymore. After she was done with lowering the moon she made her way to the medical ward, levitating a plate of food and out of her regalia. When she walked into the room they were in, she was horrified to see how weak Nightshade had seemed to become, so much that she nearly dropped the food.
“Nightshade, I know you love your kids but this is killing you. You can't simply starve yourself and stay down here, you have duties now and a wedding on its way,”
Luna stopped speaking as Nightshade slowly and weakly turned her head to her mother, the dark circles under her eyes and the redness of her eyes alone were enough to bring her mother to tears.
“Nightshade, my little Nightshade what have you done to yourself?”
She moved to hold her, putting the food down as she looked her daughter over. Her slitted blue eyes were long gone, replaced by the sadder and more heartbreaking eyes her mother saw when she was born. She kissed Nightshade's forehead just below her horn and held her close,
“your kids will be ok, but you are my child, and it is my responsibility to make sure that you are taking care of yourself.”
For the rest of the early morning, Luna fed and held Nightshade close, singing softly to her and making her smile with stories of her past. No matter how old Nightshade got, she was always more than happy and excited to listen to the stories her mother had to share. And soon after she had fallen asleep again, Luna brought down a blanket for her and left her to rest, hoping that her grand foals would make a full recovery.
