(chapter 41) bittersweet situation

“I can't believe your queen, the nerve of that mare, sending a hive prostitute to keep me occupied while Metamorph is away. I don't need to have sex to be happy you know,”

Nightshade dragged the changeling by his tail, heading for an empty hallway so they could talk in private.

“it wasn't exactly my choice, but you did seem rather needy when we came to visit before, only, you were more quiet then,”

He said, he was barely resisting as he was dragged away from the medical ward. His deep and sedative tone only proved to annoy Nightshade more, and she stopped to push him to the side of the hall.

“I was quiet because you have a staring problem, one which I'm not used to or even like!”

Nightshade's expression was violent and struck the changeling with a twinge of terror, and he quickly tried to calm her down.

“you don't understand, I'm here to keep you happy until the visit is over, I'll go back as soon as I'm told to return,”

He smiled nervously, and Nightshade lunged at him slightly, making him jump in response and move closer to the wall behind him.

“I have kids damn it! What else do I need to be happy? I'm safe, they're safe and I don't have to run anymore. The only thing that I have to worry about it Blueblood, and his behaviour and respect need to change in order for him to do anything right.”

She pressed a hoof into his chest,

“you're not going to become another problem for me to fix, if you do I will throw you out myself, do I make myself clear?”

His nervous smile grew a little bit and Nightshade moved her hoof.

“now let's go, I have duties to attend to,”

With that she began to trot back to her room, with the changeling following close behind, but farther than before, just to be safe.

When she got to her room she sat at her desk and picked up a stack of scrolls, looking through them and jotting down problems and progress with the dragons moving in. It seemed as though Pyrite was doing a good job; relocating his kind and doing a background check on them. In fact, most of the scrolls were the results of it, and she made note of every potential danger.

“what are you doing? You look like a filly that just got into college, studying for your very first test,”

Nightshade jumped slightly, she had forgotten he was there, or rather, expected him to leave her to the boring and tedious task.

“well, if you must know, the dragons have made an agreement to join Equestria's unity clause, these are the results of background checks and relocation. I'm making note of things that can end up meaning trouble, for all of us,”

She wrote down more things, and he leaned over her shoulder to look down at her notes.

“you're letting them live around us, but you don't trust them enough to leave them to their own lives?”

Nightshade leaned away from him and set down the scrolls,

“we did this for everyone, to put everyone at ease and to tally up how many of them need to stay further away from civilization, and how many of them can assist in making weapons and armour for our guards.”

She shuffled through the scrolls and held one up in front of him, showing him the results of one of background checks.

“also, who can see changelings and not eat them, since you guys make up a majority of our population now.”

He looked genuinely intrigued, and smirked at her,

“smart mare's like you are what us changelings consider ‘easy’, for obvious reasons we tend to go for them first,”

Nightshade glared at him, setting the scroll down but keeping eye contact,

“I'm anything but easy, one wrong move and you lose your chances with me entirely, maybe even more,”

She smirked right back, in a more malicious way, and tapped his side with a wing.

“go get yourself a guest room, I'm going to take a nap and you're not sleeping with me in my bed,”

She gently tapped his cheek with a hoof, before getting up and organizing the scrolls a little bit, leaving the changeling speechless as he stood there. A mixture of fear and confusion keeping him at bay, before he decided to leave her alone.
