“father, what are you doing in Mantis’s room?”

Hearing his daughter's voice stopped him from speaking, but he still held the still asleep Mantis in his magic.

“you can't possibly love these creatures, always hungry for love and taking any that they can find, your better off with a mare than a changeling,”

Nightshade glared at her father, before using her magic to bring Mantis to her, and clutched him to her chest.

 “you don't know the thin ice you tread upon, next time, just stay in your quarters,”

He turned into a black mist behind her and flew in front of her,

“I'm disappointed to see that my blood and power has gone into such a useless creature, so weak and disgusting, I knew your sister would let me down but you were my protégé. I expected better,”

Nightshade pushed past him, and walked down the hall to her room. But he wasn't going to leave it at that, as he turned back into the black mist and followed her.

“at least Angel knew that a stallion like your mate would make her life harder if she was with him, his death alone would crush you from the inside out. At least, it would have seemed that way if you would have done what I asked of you all those years ago, but you were too weak hearted weren't you? To afraid to give up on happily ever after.”

Nightshade stopped at her door and glared at him,

“don't ever come to provoke my family ever again, like it or not this is how my life is, and you still need me to put in a good word for you so leave us be,”

She opened her door and stepped into her room, and just as he was about to follow her, she put up a spell that would block his magic. Realizing this, he growled quietly at her,

“you should be more careful, I could almost swear that you loved your new family than you loved your first one,”

And within seconds, he drifted off down the hall. Nightshade didn't take any chances to hold her son close to her that night, even though she didn't have the chance to get enough sleep, she was happy he was safe.
