Chapter 8

Soarin flew up behind Dash, unsure what to do. She was sitting on a cloud looking lost and confused. He set down behind her. Before he could even talk she knew he was there. "Hey, Soarin." She said flatly. Soarin was astonished.

"How'd you kn-" he began to asked.

"I thought you might follow me, and this was actually the fifth time saying that." She told him. Soarin smiled a bit. Then remembered why he was there.

"What was up with that, Dash?" He asked. He was worried. It was an hour since she had stormed out, they all had been searching for her. Rainbow looked at him.

"Promise not to tell, Soar'?" Soarin fliched, Rainbow never gave him a nickname. He sat down next to her and nodded. She looked away and sighed. "I remember." That was it the words Soarin wanted to hear. Now she needed to find a job, and a house and get over this whole War thing. He cracked a smile.

"That's amazing! That's, that's great!" He exclaimed. He got up and slid over in front of her. He lifted her chin up with his hoof, then noticing the confusion in her eyes. "Isn't it?" He asked. She turned away.

"When that mare came into the room, I remembered everything. But my memories don't match up with everypony else's." She whispered, barely keeping it together. Soarin burrowed his brow.

"I don't understand." He asked. Rainbow looked at him. Her eyes were beautiful, the only part of her body that wasn't effected by the War. The magenta color reflecting off of the now setting sun. They held her emotions, Soarin noted. Whenever she was sad or confused, her eyes became a bit duller somehow, and when she was flying or had no emotions rent were blank. It was hard to see before. But now they shown them as clear as the sun. She was scared.

"In my memories, I already met you." She whispered. Soarin flinched a bit, still not understanding. "And Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, Twilight, even Spike! In my memories-"her voice cracked, her emotions now running freely, and tears begining to form. "He was a dragon. And Pinkamena" she faltered out. "She was called Pinkie, Twilight was an alicorn, there was no War, I just! I just!" She stopped as she brought her hoof to her face, feeling the tears slide down her cheeks. Her ears went back, she looked away.

"What's wrong?" Soarin asked again. He was still unsure what to do. She remembered, but she remembered different things. What can he do?

"Everything." He heard her say. She turned back to look at him, tears flying down her face and into the cloud. "My whole world, everything I knew is now gone." She whimpered. Her breathing was becoming hard. "Soarin," she cried. He looked at her, he would stick by her side even when her world was falling apart, he would be the one thing that she wouldn't forget.

"When was the last time you saw a clear blue sky?" She asked. It was a rather odd question and Soarin didn't really have an answer for it right away. But he tried.

"Well, uhm." He almost laughed. "Before the War, I guess, why'd ya ask, General?" He repiled. Rainbow stared at him.

"Don't call me that. I'm not the great General that won the War for Equestria. I'm just Rainbow Dash the world's most confused, lost, and idiotic pony it has ever seen." She moped, then she straighten herself and looked at him. "Listen, Soar', my memories, it felt like yesterday." She told him, she was now shaking, she stared up at the smoke colored sky. When the War began factorys began to duplicate like weeds, they pumped out smoke and gas like there was no tomorrow, of corse during the War it almost seemed like there wasn't a tomorrow. Soarin loved the sky, just as any pegasus should, and many of the pegasi had asked the princess to stop sight the toxic gases that the flightless ponies careless made, but she was always too busy. Most pegasi just left Equestria as soon as they realize that the gases weren't going away.

"What," Soarin began, but he his voice lost its will to speak. "What was like?" He asked again. She stared off information which distance.

"Amazing, endless blue in all directions, earth ponies and unicorns scurrying below, trying to get from there to here, never having a taste of freedom. Not even a cloud could stand in my way, the wind, chilly and crisp, like a cold winter's night, and you're flying sun and moon and stars, nopony can touch you as you soar, but when the howls of the wind dies away, and the excitement of the freedom you drooled over before you took to the air stops. The world seems to be dead. Not a sound can heard. Not even the wind blows, but yet," she paused and took a breath. "When you hear only your heart beating; all you want to do is soar." She shivered.

"That was beautiful; uhm, Rainbow? " Soarin asked, questionably. But Rainbow didn't hear.

"Why do I remember?" She asked herself. "Why'd I forget?" She half yelled. She stood up and began screaming at the sky.

"IS THIS WHAT I GET?! AFTER ALL THAT I'VE DONE?! THE SONIC RAINBOOM?! SAVING EQUESTRIA MULTIPLE TIMES?!? WHAT ABOUT MY LIFE? EVERYTHING..." her voice faltered, tears falling softly on her cheeks, Soarin had stood, too, trying to calm her down. But she still continued. "PLEASE! All....all I want now it to go home." She said collapsing to the ground. She began to sob. Soarin stared. Not knowing what to say. Then he sat down next to her.

"What to know something, something crazy?" She mumbled. She looked up tears still falling, she smiled a kinda creepy smile. "When I first met you, I had a dream, you, Spitfire, and Rarity, the, the mare who walked in, and other pegasus were all falling, and I, and I." She paused, smiling at him. "I saved you guys by doing the Sonic Rainboom, it was the second time I did it, the first was when I was a filly." She stopped. She looked down at the cloud.

"Cipper, what's wrong with me?" She whispered. Soarin put a hoof over her shoulders and pulled her close.

"I don't know, Dashie, I don't know." He told her. Then he heard the explosion.
