Twilight Velvet and Nightlight never did let their kids do much. Shining Armor had to train for the guard, and Twilight always had to study. Sure, they had friends; but not many, and not always the kinds they wanted. When parents refuse to let their kids be kids, they will naturally find other ways to fulfill their nature.
