Chapter 1
I was just trying to help, honest. How was I supposed to know that I'd die.
Oh! Sorry about that. Maybe I should start from the beginning. I'm a 24 year old male human named Jax... I'm just saying that I'm human because where I am now, humans don't exist. I should also tell you that I have a condition. It's called Magi-phobia, or the fear of magic. ever since I saw it's destructive power destroy my city and make me an orphan I couldn't help but cower in fear whenever I saw it in action, whether it be to heal others or to hurt others, I was always afraid. although, when I joined the military, I slowly lost my fear of magic, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.
Basically, I'm carrying my AK47 on my back, 2 pistols on each side of my hips, and I'm carrying my sniper rifle in my hands. I'm running for my life. It's the year 3019 and we're in a war. It's called the thousand year war. We're fighting for how we should live, with technology or magic and nature. the sides were decided years ago, now we're just born into them and taught to fight and survive from day one. We don't get a choice in the matter.
I hate my life
Here I am, running for my life and shooting like I just don't care.... although I did care. The first time you kill someone is always the worst, the most traumatizing. Mine was the worst because I was splattered with my foe's blood. Ever since that day, I've had a hard time in the war. I was scarred for life. Now, whenever someone touches me or get's near me, I tend to either tense up or flinch. This has been really helpful in the war because I can pretty much "sense" others within 35 feet of me. this means that no one can get the drop on me.
"come on Jax, we need to get in there, but we can't if you're lagging behind. what if someone finds you when we 'accidentally' leave you behind." John, my closest ally, said to me. "alright, alright already, hold your horses, I'm getting there. I'm just trying to see if there are any mages up ahead." I figured out that if I concentrate enough, I can sense farther than the average 35 feet. the farthest I've ever gotten was almost a mile.
We were almost there when out of nowhere, a magic blast hit us. "Ambush!" One of our squad members yelled before he was hit. "What!" I yelled in confusion while I dove for cover. 'That's Impossible!' I thought. 'I didn't sense them!' "Go, go, go!" Our squad leader shouted. I guessed we were going to finish the mission whether we died in the process or not.
I ran as fast as I could. I've never ran so fast in my life. As I ran, I saw John get hit. "John!" I yelled, but I kept running. one of our rules was to finish the mission, even if we have to leave others behind to do it. Sure, it's depressing, but it's true. This truly was a Living Hell.
I ran into the mage laboratory and shot anything in sight. I was angry, especially by the fact that my whole squadron was destroyed. I didn't notice the enemy mage sneak up behind me and he shoved me into a black hole with his magic. That was the last thing I remembered before I saw a flash of light and felt extreme pain.
I hate my life.
The pain. The excruciating pain. I didn't know how I could feel that much pain without passing out within the first three seconds. It felt like I was being pulled apart, stretched, shrunk, and fused back together again, completely different when it came to feeling myself mentally.I passed out... or I thought I did until I looked at myself later.
I had died and come back to life completely renewed.
**********
I woke up really sore with the sun glaring into my eyes. "Ugh... I hate mornings." I tried to stand up and do my morning stretching but I ended up losing my balance and falling on my stomach. "What the Hell!?" I shouted. I figured out why I couldn't balance on two feet. 1. I didn't have feet any more, I had hooves. 2. I seemed to be shaped as a small equine, meaning my back isn't at the right angle for me to stand straight like a normal human being that I appeared to not be anymore. 3. there isn't a third reason, deal with it.
The odd thing about me now though ( yeah, I know, what can get weirder than this) is the fact that my coat and hair... or mane, is colored slightly unusual... and then some. I was grey which may seem normal, except for the fact that my mane is pitch black with a red streak going through it. that caught me off guard.
What also caught me off guard was the fact that I had wings and a horn.I figured that part out when I saw my tail and felt pain in my head where the horn is. "what happened to me!?" I yelled. My eyes widened when I heard my voice for the second time. "And why do I sound like a kid!?" I said noticing the slight pitch in my voice... or the fact that I could speak at all since I seemed to be some kind of horse creature with wings and a horn. I was utterly terrified. The mages used magic to transform me and send me to who knows where. My fear of magic, Magi-phobia, was about to come back, tenfold.
"I... I... I... uuuuugh." I fainted.
Have I ever told you how much I hate my life?
