Luna Creates Another Day

Laziness Moves Us All

During the nights, hours before the dawn of day, Luna would enjoy the quiet of peace of her night. All equestrians would have their dreams secured of any nightmares and Equestria would be safe due to Luna's guards scouting the land with her aid through the lens of a telescope located in the highest tower in Canterlot. Everything was fine and it would just be another regular night in Equestria.

Morning would finally come and Celestia would take her sister's place, taking care of the daily activities such as the many meetings and objectives, things Luna wouldn't really have to endure unless Celestia called a day off or felt sick, Celestia would have to fulfill with a certain amount of time if it was for her to finish everything by the end of her shift. Meanwhile Luna would head of to her room for some sleep since guarding the dreams of thousands of ponies was no easy job as well, Luna herself deserved a few hours of sleep. Together, the two sisters ensured that Equestria worked the way it was meant to be.

There would be days Luna would wake up earlier, hours before the end of Celestia's 12 hour shift, and she used this extra time to do one or more, if possible, of her many favorite activities during her free time, which included art, playing video games, secretly being lazy (which wasn't what someone would usually expect from a Alicorn so full of responsibilities). Luna would soon find herself "in the zone" as she started one of her activities, consuming all the time she could enjoying herself, which was not usual considering the schedule she and her sister had to follow (even though she would end up with many hours of free time during her shift, she couldn't really be absent if an emergency popped out of nowhere).

This time, Luna woke up early again, and well rested as well. The previous night didn't require much of her energy as many ponies didn't experience a nightmare. She then went around her room deciding what to do, there where many things she could do and enough time to do them. She started with art, floating a pencil with her horn and carefully drawing the lines of a beautiful landscape, a replica she had been working or weeks of what she could see from the window of her room, rivers reaching the farthest of hills she could see, with villages, forests and everything Equestria had to offer. When she got as much progress as she wanted on her art, she moved sat on the small sofa she had in her room, floating through the many games she owned, unsure of which to play. After some thinking, she picked one and would spent the next three hours playing just that. And, from activity to activity, she would spend the rest of her afternoon switching from one another, without a care in the world.

But as her time would end, she would learn again that when you are having fun time runs out quicker. Her alarm rang, making her jump out and making her destroy all the progress she had on the card castle she had been carefully making. Angry, she would clean the mess and go to work.

She would approach Celestia and signal her she could go rest so Luna could take over. Again, it would be a calm night, and even if there would be trouble, She was sure Twilight and her friends could solve it. That night she would spend some time visiting the dreams of the subjects, occasionally stop and spend time with some of the friends she would make through her time of helping others through their dreams and literally overcome their nightmares, just chilling and checking out on them along the way, and then move on to the next dream. Dreamwalking was tiring to say, but this time around Luna found herself without any problems to solve.

“Well, that's a bummer.” She sighted. “I'm bored.” She said as she looked a third time through her telescope looking for any sings of trouble. “Anything is better than just sitting here” She told herself. All the time playing games and thinking of adventures gave her a sense of boredom bigger than the usual when it comes to routines.

Usually she would spend hours in a nightmare or helping the guards with some problem they found, and Luna found joy in those things, she loves her job, at least when there are things to do. She dreamed of an adventure, but all she got is paperwork and surveillance.

Minutes of staring into nothingness brought a sudden idea to her mind. “What if I brought something for me to do while I'm in here?!” She said out loud excitedly. She ran into the castle, silently making her way to her room, trying her best not to wake up anyone or sing any guard.

She reached her room without any problems, she grabbed the first notebook and pen, handheld video game, music player and headphones she could find. “A quick teleportation wouldn't attract any attention. After all, if they check the sound it made, I won't even be here for someone to find me.” She thought to herself.

And so she did. Teleporting herself back to the place where she would keep her telescope and chair, and as she would expect, nothing was out of place, the world didn't end as her instructors would make it seem when she was first getting into this after coming back a thousand years later.

Silently, she got back to her "work". Following on her activities while the night followed, often checking on some dreams and Equestria and quickly going back to what she likes to do the most.

As the night ended, her theories would have been proven correct. Equestria didn't end and the dangers of the world didn't even threaten it. She teleported her things back to her room, as she couldn't be caught with them out here, otherwise there would be questions, many questions that she couldn't care less about. After she was done with that, she head to the dinning room, where she and Celestia would have breakfast together. Sitting in front of her sister on the small table they shared, they would usually share, but this time around it was different.

Luna didn't feel like it was correct for her to spend time of her work to do her hobbies, it wasn't right and she could end up missing many things, and she knew the weight she carried, enough to know that her hobbies shouldn't be on the way even if one night is slower than the other one. That's when a brilliant idea came to her mind.

“Sister?” Luna called for Celestia's attention. “I have been thinking...”

“Yes?” Celestia replied.

“What if we make up another day?” Luna said.

“What do you mean?” Celestia sounded very confused. “Do you mean another holiday? Another festival?”

“No, not that.” Luna went back on what she said. “I mean another week day. You know, so we could have eight days instead of seven in a week.”

“And where did you come with this nonsense?” Celestia instantly refused, her confusion to why still standing. “We would have to change entire calendars, and at this point there is a lot of people who already bought calendars for the next year. And do you know how many business managers we will have at the throne room telling me how they are losing bits if we suddenly decide that this day is not going to be a business day? Where in Equestria did you come to this idea?”

“Well... I don't think people appreciate the moon enough.” Luna tried to come with a random reason out of her mind since "being lazy" wouldn't work. Until she realized that this happened before but in a different scale. “... I swear on our names that I'm not turning into Nightmare Moon again” She broke the silence that followed her last phrase.

“Well, that's new.” Celestia's voice sarcastically said, followed by a giggle.

“Aw come on, you created an entire day for the sun.” Luna replied. “Now you are gonna say Sundays aren't literally "Sun days". I don't remember having divisions of days a thousand years ago.”

“I've created that day so I could pay my respects to you after I had to banish you!” Celestia replied. “Besides, I needed days so I could rest, like on Sundays.” She drank a sip of her coffee. “Now that I think about it, they were days for me, so I guess that Sundays were really days for the sun. Oops.” She realized.

“Then why can't we have Moondays then?” Luna tried to argue. “Can't I be allowed to take rests too? The only times I have time for myself is when I fake being sick so I don't have to work or... sundays...”

“Well now, aren't sundays only for the sun now, am I right?” Celestia winked at her sister.

“Can't we have two days off instead of one?” Luna tried being more direct this time around. She wanted to convince her sister so hard so she didn't have to work and could be lazy to her heart's content.

“And what? Ponies have to get used to another routine? We are talking an entire day of the week for every week there is in a year.” Celestia said. “We can't do that, people already get confused when they are stressed out in the middle of the week, enough to not even know what day it is, and now you want to create another day for them to worry about?”

“But if we make it a weekend like I'm suggesting, people will be more rested for the rest of their week and more productive.” Luna argued.

“I'm telling you, it's not that simple.” Celestia wanted to end this before she got late for her shift. “Besides, people would confuse it with Mondays.”

“Mondays...” Luna said to herself. “Moondays...”

“You are not thinking...” Celestia followed the thought. “No, Luna, we can't simply rename a day and change the business days of a week... Can we?”

“Actually, I think we can...” Luna replied.

Both stayed in silence, just sitting there, staring into nothingness like if they had just found the reason for life itself.

Celestia smiled “We are going to get into so much trouble for this.”

“Oh yes.” Luna smiled back. “And it's going to be so worth it.”

“Oh yes.” Celestia laughed, as she revealed that, she too, wanted an extra day off. “Imagine how much time I could get to do something else other than go to the spa to relax. I could start a hobby!” Celestia sounded like she was enjoying the whole concept.

“And I could finish many of my projects and unfinished games!” Luna continued.

“This could be wonderful!” Both said as they kept laughing.

After some time of laughter they stopped and caught their breaths. Celestia turned to her sister.

“There are gonna be so many pissed of business ponies that I could really use one extra day to rest, you know?”

“I can take your place sitting in the throne room to take care of some of that paperwork for you if that would help.” Luna offered.

“Yeah, thanks a lot.” Celestia replied.

And so it was decided, Celestia and Luna would abuse their position to change the name of a whole day and changing it's purpose, saving so much money and time on the calendars they would have to refund and the complaints of many ponies for having extra days and messing with the lives they had under the seven-day routine. Celestia, alongside with Luna, would announce the change that would be officially taken from the weeks to come, and from there on, Luna would be able to complete many of the things she wanted to, and sometimes have short adventures that wouldn't take more than a day, sometimes even followed by her sister. And she would be very pleased and rested for the nights to come where she would spend bored but responsible.

Or until she gets used to the new routine and feels like she could use more free time.
