Cal is…different. To say the least. He's had issues with many people. Such as impersonating an FBI agent so he could get close to the crimes that are linked to Abizu, a demon who stole his only source of happiness, his daughter Angie. Finally, after years and years of searching, he's come face to face with Abizu…and…that's it, he doesn't remember exactly what happened but now he's looking at a rather cute little technicolor pony.

(think Dean from "Supernatural" getting sucked into MLP in a manner similar to that of Samurai jack. Also may or may not be some heavy religious imagery scattered throughout [seeing Abizu is a jewish demon])
