Celestia's Decision

Fifteen minutes had passed since Celestia took Morning Glory to the dungeon when she returned to the throne room to find a nervous Flitter and Cloudchaser and a hopeful Rainbow. Rather than directly approaching them about this, she figured she would ask Rainbow about this, "Rainbow, I know they admitted to this but I do have one question, did you notice anything about their behavior lately that seemed odd? Did you ever suspect that they were engaging in this relationship?"

Rainbow, like Celestia, spread her wings and replied, "Well I did notice a change in their behavior a while back but I never thought anything about it but then again when you're the leader of the weather team, you have bigger issues than your workers engaging in relationships."

Celestia then turned to the sisters and asked, "Flitter, Cloudchaser, I want to know something. When you two got into this relationship, did you know that incest is illegal?"

Cloudchaser was the first to reply, "We did but we believed that we could hide it from the public."

Flitter added, "We knew that other ponies would frown upon it but we can't help who we love. Love just sort of happens, it isn't something that you plan out like a script."

It kind of irritated Celestia that they would just violate the law despite knowing of its existence yet she could sort of see where Flitter was coming from but she wanted to know more about this. She asked, "I don't mean to pry but could one of you two tell me why you developed feelings like this for one another?"

Cloudchaser replied first, "Back at the time I was dating Thunderlane...."

Celestia interrupted, "And who is Thunderlane?"

Cloudchaser continued, "He is another pony on the weather team down in Ponyville. You see, him and I had been dating for six months when I finally discovered he was not serious about our relationship."

Celestia gave her a curious look and asked, "Oh?"

Cloudchaser continued, "Yes, he seemed to just like saying I was his marefriend and once I learned the truth, I stormed home and like it always is when I go through moments of stress, Flitter was there for me."

Celestia focused more on Flitter and asked, "Cloudchaser said you were there for her. What does she mean by that?"

Flitter was not overly thrilled with Celestia prying into things but knew that unlike it would be with other ponies, she would have to tell her and be respectful. She replied, "Your Majesty, whenever she has moments like that we talk and like it is during moments of heartbreak for her, I held her and comforted her."

Celestia had a feeling as to where this was headed and asked, "What do you mean by comforted her?"

Flitter replied, "Just held her, we talked and I stroked my hoof through her mane. I did what any sister that cares about her sister would do."

Celestia could tell that the two did indeed care about one another deeply but wanted to know what caused them to take what was just a close sisterly relationship to the next level. She asked, "So what finally caused you two to decide to be more than just sisters?"

Cloudchaser replied, "It was when Flitter was comforting me that I could tell she had more than just sisterly feelings for me and the fact that every stallion I ever dated hurt me, I decided that I could do better."

Flitter added, "And while I had been scared to tell her for years, I finally admitted to my sister that I loved her in a way that a sister should not, that I love love her."

Cloudchaser continued, "And after that, I was able to tell her what I wanted to tell her for years but was afraid to, that I loved her in a way I should not."

Celestia developed a bit of a smile on her face as she asked, "Cloudchaser, I thought you said you had been dating stallions. If you loved your sister that way, why would you date stallions?"

Cloudchaser replied, "Because I was not only scared to admit my love to her but I was also scared of how other ponies would react. I thought that if I dated stallions, that I may find one that would win me over."

Celestia turned to Flitter and asked, "What about you? Did you date stallions as well to try and suppress these feelings?"

Flitter replied, "No. I never dated because I couldn't bring my self to have feelings for anypony other than Cloudchaser."

Celestia figured that she had heard enough from the sisters so she turned to Rainbow. She asked, "Rainbow, I know you said that you didn't see anything that would have indicated they were together but what do you think about two of your workers being in a relationship like this?"

While Rainbow was shocked that Flitter and Cloudchaser were in a type of relationship that two sisters should not be in and didn't exactly understand how that type of relationship would work, she didn't see anything wrong with it. She replied, "Your Majesty, I know what they are doing is illegal and incest laws probably dictate that they be separated but I don't see anything wrong with it." She gave the two a smile and continued, "Love is love and I think if these two are happy together, who are we to deny them that?"

Celestia knew that Rainbow was very loyal that she was close to but she didn't imagine that she would be so loyal that she would not object to two ponies breaking a law that was almost as old as Equestria itself. She asked, "Rainbow, I know they are happy together but don't you know why the incest laws were created to begin with?"

Rainbow wasn't exactly the most studious student when she went to school but she did find old laws interesting. She replied, "Yes, they were made to prevent inbreeding." She walked over to Flitter and Cloudchaser, put her wings around them and continued, "And with these two, there can be no inbreeding because they are both mares."

Celestia stood there stunned as she realized that Rainbow was right. She stayed in a state of shock before continuing, "That is true, very true. Back when my sister and I made the incest laws we never imagined that it would be anything other than mares and stallions hooking up because back in that era, nopony even thought about same sex couples."

Flitter was about to say something when Rainbow said, "With that being the case, don't you think that law may need to be altered to where it only applies to heterosexual pairs because in the case of these two, you don't have to worry about inbreeding."

Cloudchaser spoke up, "That is true your Majesty, and one thing I have noticed is that all the lesbian couples I see seem so happy."

Flitter added, "And you almost never hear about them engaging in domestic violence." She put her wing around her sister and finished, "I don't know what the punishment for incest is but please don't take us away from one another just because my true love happens to be my twin sister."

Cloudchaser added, "And my true love happens to be my twin sister."

Celestia stood there for a minute going through everything the two along with Rainbow had told her before walking to Flitter and Cloudchaser and getting down to where she was at eye level with them. She put her wings around them and began, "Flitter, Cloudchaser, first I want to commend you for doing what you did in Baltimare. Many mares would have caved in and went with Morning Glory but you proved that your love is far stronger than some threat that could separate you two."

Flitter said, "Thanks your Majesty."

Celestia continued, "I am going to give you two my blessing. I do hope that you two will be happy for the rest of your days and may those days be long."

Flitter and Cloudchaser were in shock. While they knew that Morning Glory had caused displeasure in Celestia, never did they expect her to give them her blessing. They both pulled Celestia close and Cloudchaser began to cry, "Thank you your Majesty, thank you!"

Flitter too began to cry, "You have no idea how happy this makes us. It feels so good now that we won't have to hide our relationship."

Celestia pulled back and replied, "I'm glad you're happy but you will likely face a lot of judgment and negative reactions from your fellow ponies down in Ponyville." She gave them a smile and continued, "But with how you handled Morning Glory, I am certain you will deal with them in a civil way."

Flitter asked, "What about marriage? Given that we are sisters will we ever be able to get married?"

Celestia winked at the two and replied, "With the way the laws are right now, no but don't worry, once you two are ready for that, the answer will be yes."

When Rainbow heard this she was happy but wanted to know something. She asked, "Princess, with you going to be changing that law, will you be changing the incest law regarding same sex couples too?"

Celestia replied, "Yes Rainbow, I will." She cast her gaze at the three and continued, "Well I think I will let you get going. After all, I know the rainy season in Ponyville is supposed to start today and I'm sure your team has fallen behind in getting it started."

Rainbow replied, "Oh don't worry about it, a few hours delay won't hurt anypony" she turned to Flitter and Cloudchaser and continued, "And I want you two to take a couple days off."

Both of them looked at Rainbow in shock. Flitter gasped, "Really? You want us to take time off when there is so much work to do?"

Rainbow replied, "Yeah, I do. After what happened today, I think you two need to celebrate" she too winked at them and continued, "Just don't go sharing any of the details with anypony, alright?"

In unison the two agreed, "Don't worry, we won't!"

As they were getting ready to leave Celestia yelled, "Stop!"

The three turned around and Rainbow asked, "What is it your Majesty?"

Celestia got a mile wide grin on her face and asked, "I was thinking, with everything that has happened today, what would you three think about joining me for some cake?"

While Flitter and Cloudchaser weren't overly familiar with Celestia's desires when it came to food, Rainbow did. She laughed, "Oh Princess Celestia, you and your cake!" She turned to the two and asked, "I think some cake sounds great, what about you two? Would you be up for staying a bit longer?"

Flitter replied, "Yeah sure, cake sounds good."

Cloudchaser licked her chops and added, "I'm all up for staying a bit longer besides, some cake sounds really good right about now."

Celestia gave them all a smile and said, "Follow me to the dining hall and we'll have our cake."

The three followed Celestia to the dining hall and Flitter and Cloudchaser were still shocked. What they thought was going to wind up being a very bad visit with Celestia wound up being one that was good beyond their wildest dreams. Finally, they could be together as marefriends and not have to worry about any legal repercussions. They knew that they would likely have ponies judging them over their love, now that they had Celestia's blessing, no amount of judging or threats would keep them from being happy.
