More Than Just Sisters

A Rough Monday

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The whole weekend from the moment that Flitter and Cloudchaser discovered their love for one another was spent in bliss. It was the type of weekend that nopony would ever want to end as they enjoyed one another's company, whether it was sharing things with one another that the other didn't know, engaging in passionate kisses or even just cuddling and staring lovingly into one another's eyes. Like all weekends though, it would come to a close far too soon.

Monday morning arrived and like they have been since they discovered their love, they woke up in a loving embrace, gazing lovingly into one another's eyes. The first one to say anything was Flitter, "You know Cloudchaser, I wish we could just lay here in bed like this all day."

Cloudchaser replied, "I wish we could too but we have work today. You know we can't just skip work."

Flitter pouted, "I know."

After a loving kiss the two got up and headed into the kitchen to fix a quick breakfast. Given that they spent a few extra minutes in bed they would have to have something quicker so they just ate some toast and had a protein bar. While it was not as big as they were used to, they figured the extra protein would hold them over until lunch.

When they flew off to work they flew closer together than normal which is something they used to not do. What really made other ponies wonder what was going on though was that they were late. The two worked on the Ponyville weather team and their captain, Rainbow Dash, was not one bit happy to see their late arrival.

Rainbow gave the two a glare, "Cloudchaser, Flitter, you're late." Her glare changed to a look of concern as she continued, "You two are never late! Is something wrong?"

Cloudchaser replied, "Well our alarm clocks didn't go off this morning so we overslept."

Rainbow sighed, "Well alright. Just try and get to work on time tomorrow, alright?"

The two nodded and began to move clouds in as there was a rainstorm scheduled for that evening. Unfortunately the feather flu had been afflicting some of the pegasi in town so they were short-hooved. Despite this though, Flitter and Cloudchaser, who usually are able to easily move clouds in and out on their own, were sticking together when it came to handling the clouds, which only irritated Rainbow further.

Rainbow asked, "Flitter, Cloudcaser, what the hay is wrong with you two? Normally you can move those clouds on your own. Why are you moving them together?"

Both of them had flustered looks on their faces until Cloudchaser replied, "Well, we are both a bit tired and don't have the energy to move them on our own."

Rainbow knew it was a lie, "Don't lie to me Cloudchaser, you two looked like you were full of energy this morning." She shrugged her shoulders and continued, "Look, we are already short today because the feather flu is afflicting members of the team so we need you two putting in all your effort. We do have a rainstorm scheduled for this evening."

The two hugged and went on to moving in clouds on their own while still staying within eyesight of one another. While this did increase the productivity of the team as a whole, it was still preventing them from reaching the maximum productivity for how many ponies they had available that day. While it continued to annoy Rainbow, she figured she would talk to them about it once lunchtime arrived.

After what seemed to be forever for the two sisters lunchtime had arrived. As they began to head home for lunch they were stopped by Rainbow, "Flitter, Cloudchaser, can we talk for a minute?"

Flitter replied, "Yeah, sure."

Rainbow sighed, "Look, I don't know what is up with you two but something just doesn't seem right. Normally you two are the best workers I have and today you're really slacking." She put her hooves around them and asked, "Is something bothering you two?"

Cloudchaser replied, "Well, no. Why would you think something is bothering us?"

Rainbow asked, "I saw how you two were flying so close together when you flew in this morning, you were moving clouds you could handle on your own together and now as you are heading home for lunch, you were flying closer together than normal. Something has to be bothering you."

Flitter sighed, "Is it a crime for twin sisters to want to be closer together every now and then?"

Cloudchaser added, "No it is not!" She then looked off towards their house and continued, "Now could we please get home so we'll actually be able to eat some lunch?"

Rainbow sighed, "Yes but I need maximum effort from you two this afternoon. We've fallen behind and we need this rainstorm to start by 1700."

They nodded and headed home for lunch. When they got in the door they were clearly frustrated yet also worried that Rainbow might be catching on to them already. Cloudchaser asked, "Flitter, do you think she is on to us? Do you think she suspects that we're more than just sisters?"

Flitter replied, "Not yet but if we keep acting the way we are and can't be apart, she might." She gave her sister a kiss and continued, "And we need to act like we always do in public. We don't want anypony knowing about our relationship."

Cloudchaser said, "I know, I know. So for now, we act normally."

Flitter nodded and they fixed themselves a peanut butter sandwich and downed it with some cider. They knew they better make it quick since Rainbow had delayed their getting home and knew that they should get back early since the whole team was behind schedule.

After lunch they flew back to work, except this time they flew further apart so that they wouldn't draw any suspicion from anypony. When they arrived early Rainbow was impressed, "Wow ladies, I didn't expect you to get back this soon."

Cloudchaser replied, "Well we know we're behind and we want to get the job done before the rainstorm is scheduled."

Rainbow sighed, "Sorry but you can't clock back in until 1300. We can't pay you that extra time."

They sighed in frustration knowing that because of that, that they may not be able to go home on schedule. This confused them a bit because Rainbow said that they can't pay them the extra time now but would have no problems paying them the overtime if they didn't get all the clouds in by 1700.

The afternoon went by without incident as everypony was putting as much effort into things as they could but come 1700, the pegasi still did not have enough clouds in position and naturally this frustrated Flitter and Cloudchaser. They knew they had to stay and get the job done. Finally at 1730 they had got enough clouds in to start the rainstorm that was supposed to hit Ponyville that night. Given that they had missed a light drizzle the previous week, a torrential downpour would be needed, which Flitter and Cloudchaser didn't think was exactly a bad thing.
