Long before the founding of equestria there was a great divide between the pony races. Unicorns, pegisi, and earth ponies alike took immense pride in purity of their tribe. However, that purity was sometimes threatened by lovestruck fillies and colts who found a “special some-ponie” from across the aisle. These couples were publicly shamed and referred to as mongrels for committing such acts. As time went on it became a crime for these couples to exist and the penalty for such acts was death. Some of them fled into the nearby forests to seek refuge from the relentless pressure of their tribes. Many were never heard from again, but some of them built homes for their families near by.
Colten is a unicorn that was birthed into such a family, but that’s not the most interesting thing about him. One day, while journeying through the old forest he and his friend starflair ran into something that would change their lives forever.

Authors notes: I've had this story in mind for a while but I haven't been able to figure out the perspective. This isn't how I envisioned the story, but it's not going to be released if I keep thinking over how it should be written.
