The Day Equestria Caught Dance Fever
Celestia's sun was shining down on Ponyville, all across the town birds were singing in tune. Moving their little heads back and forth to the beat as it carried through the air shifting and growing in volume. Down in the town proper all the locals were slowly waking to a new day, one that in other circumstances would have been uneventful. Their radios tuned to their favorite music, a stream of different melodies blended together in discordant harmonics. And in each home the ponies of the town would notice something different this morning. Something a bit more, catchy.
Fluttershy
The birds singing awoke the light yellow pegasus, her hair a mess after a long night caring for her animals still in her signature style albeit tangled. With exaggerated motions the kind little pegasus stretched like a cat and stared at the sun. Something felt different about today, as if some kind of rhythm was echoing through the air. After all from what she could remember, the songbird didn't normally bop their heads to the beat of their songs. Well maybe it was a new bird trend, she could always ask later but now she had work to do. Getting out of bed she headed towards her bedroom door, when two more distinct things caught her attention.
One was that Angel was missing from his bed, he normally never got up before her. The second was a very distinct song coming from downstairs accompanied by the sounds of many feet shifting and shuffling around. Her hoof on the door she paused for a second, taking a deep breath before opening it. Walking out and down the stairs of her cottage, she was stopped by something that boggled the mind.
All her animals were on the floor, chairs, and more their little bodies shaking and shifting in the unmistakable form of dance. The mice were break dancing in the center wearing little sunglasses, dancing off against the weasels. Harry the bear was doing a head bob to an unheard music in the air with new dreads, as the rest grooved to an unmistakable beat. Angel bunny was the one that caught her eye though, the white rabbit doing some unheard of series of moves on the dining room table alongside other smaller critters. In that could only be described as an animal rave, her precious friends were busting a move all over her house.
Eyes wide in shock, Fluttershy walked forward into the room full of rhythm entranced animals looking for something that could cause this. But with each hoof step she started to ear something, or feel it was more accurate. It was like something was vibrating in her bones, as if she was in the presence of some unseen force. The feeling moved up her body making her start to tap to the invisible beat. Then as she entered the center of the room she heard it.
A sound unlike any she had ever heard echoed in her ears, a song that described what she had always wanted to do but was to scared to. The one thing her shy nature had kept her from. As her shoulders beginning to bounce to the beat she began to sing, her body moving to the music she could now hear clearly.
"Turf," she whispered before beginning to bump her hips left and right, shoulders shifting in sync. As her wings spread out feathers fluttering, Fluttershy let loose with the aid if the music. Getting on her hind hoofs she placed on front hoof to the right then turned her head to the left, beginning what could only be described as a Dance hall routine. Her body moving she joined the animals, leading them in what could be described as Equestria's first true Dance hall mega dance.
Watch Me Now - Busy Signal Dance hall Version.
Shaking her head and moving her fore limbs to the beat, Fluttershy began the routine. Her body moving along, captured in the throes of the lyrical infection that had taken root in the house. Tail and mane flying left and right she moved and grooved, her body feeling it as if the rhythm was in her bones. In a way it was, she could feel each pulsing vibration more than the last. Her very nerves getting into the dance, with the animals now becoming her backup dancers. Mimicking her moves as she crossed her hooves, flicked her head, and pulled off complex moves with her hind hooves. The little critters seemed as if they had been dancing their entire lives.
"Watch me now" She said through suddenly fierce eyes, her limbs jiving left and right, spinning and twirling in ways she would never have done before. It was as if she was more alive than ever before, her shyness lifted by the power of the music. A vibration in the very foundation of the cottage told her where to go, what move to do, all in perfect sync to the sound she cold not just hear but feel. Her fur took on a new tone, bright and electric, as she turned to Angel. Challenge in her eyes, she pointed at the white rabbit with one hoof that could only mean one thing. Battle dance!
As the butter yellow pegasus unleashed her inner queen in the forest cottage against her pet bunny, the town below was far from exempt from the phenomenon of uncontrolled dancing. For a new epidemic was sweeping the nation, spread by that unheard sound and the echoes of radios. It was the first recorded outbreak of Dance Fever in modern memory.
