A stallion was strolling through town we he heard a cry for help “Somepony!Help!” A
mare, cowering to the side. A light-pink bat pony mare, the heart with a rose adorned inside it, barely visible to normal eyes. “If you manage to kill me, you can have her. If you don’t. I kill you, take my prize, and maybe think about sparing the cute one.”
The blue stallion’s eyes grow wide with hatred and contempt, the piercing stare of the stallion could cut through hard gems. “Let the mare go, and maybe you’ll live.”
The stallion chuckles, “I don’t think I can do that. The ol’ loins are hankering for something, and I’m afraid when that urge hits, I can’t do much about it.” The stallion shrugs again, and smirks confidently towards the blue stallion once again, waiting his response.
“I’m afraid I can’t let you do that. Now run or die.” the blue stallion responds coldly.
“As they say… Well, it’s not important anyways. I’m sure you’ll have a nice grave. I’ll be sure to break it to pieces!” It was about midnight on a clear night, the moon was in full view of the stars, twinkling like stage lights in the moon’s shine. A stalwart, dark blue pony begins his late night stroll of the town of Ponyville, taking in the sight of the buildings gleaming in the moonlight. He sighs contently, turning his head towards the sky, taking in the view. His deep red eye reflecting the moon and stars, his other, cybernetic eye slowly going over the sky’s boundless limits. He smiles, continuing his stroll down the streets of Ponyville.
His ears start burning as he hears distant screams; cries and pleas for help, which other than he, have fallen on flat ears.
“Help! Please! Somepony help Me!”
His face turns sour as he desperately tries to locate the source of the pleas. Working his three legs and his cyber leg to max power as he comes across a darkened corner of an alleyway. He growls quickly preparing his stance for battle.
“Hey!” yells the stallion, coming into what little light there is, the three bits on his flank coming into full view of the bandits. “Let the mare go!”
The bandits chuckle and shake their heads at the stallion, only making him scowl harder at them. “Or what? You’re going to come after us? You couldn’t take us on, even if you wanted to.”
The stallion smirks, slowly releasing his stance. He closes his eyes, before finally inhaling deeply and thrusting himself forward towards the group.
As the bandits jump out of the way, the stallion catches his stance and kicks the first bandit straight in the side of the jaw, the jaw dropping open like a broken hinge. As the stallion readies his stance once more. The bandits smile with delight.
“Looks like we’re having some fun today boys!” The stallion that seemed to be the leader, thrust his right-forward hoof towards the blue stallion, and the bandits more than happily leaped into action. The stallion managed to evade the first few attacks, before being side-swiped by an equally-sized stallion of a tan hue and long golden mane. The stallion was thrust back into the wall, smashing his head into the side of the wall, causing a small trickle of blood to come forth from the wound.
The stallion moves himself away from the wall and thrusts his body to the side, catching the stallion off-guard , sending him hurling across the alleyway. Before he catches himself, his leg catches on the wall, tearing a small portion of flesh off the side of his leg. The tan stallion groans in pain before rage fills his eyes and he comes galloping towards the blue stallion. The pants growing more and more angered as the stallion gets closer.
The blue stallion quickly evades the enraged stallion, letting him smash into the leader, tumbling them both into the wall, a loud snap being heard from the larger of the two; the snap of his spine. The leader tumbles the lifeless body of the tan stallion off himself and screams with contempt in his voice;
“Useless! The lot of you!” he snorts before looking straight into the blue stallion’s eyes, seeing his cybernetic eye and smirking.
“Oh? So we have an unfair advantage here, eh?” he lightens his stance and steps forward slowly. “Y’know…” he sniffs and sighs. “I think it’s best you keep walking, because once I get involved, ponies like you… Well, they die. Plain and simple.” He chuckles, and looks back at the blue stallion before him, the cybernetic eye now glowing a vibrant red. “Ah, seems you don’t have a liking for me.” he shrugs flatly, “That’s too bad.”
The blue stallion lowers himself. “When I get involved, ponies like you start running, which I what I suggest you start doing. If you don’t run, you die.”
The bandit leader laughs. “You think you can take me?” he spits to the side and lowers himself as well. “Then how about we make it more interesting?” he turns towards the
The next moment, the blue stallion is rushing towards the grey stallion, his blood boiling. The grey leader quickly evades and smirks.
“A little too slow there, maybe if you ran a little faster…”
The blue stallion stoops lower the the ground before finally lashing his hoof out, transforming it into a blade, forged of the greatest minds and highest quality materials known to the pony-kind.
The grey stallion shakes his head, “Again with the cheating? I suppose it doesn’t matter…” he spits again, and looks straight towards the mare. “She’ll be dead before you can reach me.”
The blue stallion's eyes shoot towards the mare, immediately checking if she was okay. As his head moves back towards the grey stallion, he’s met with a strong kick to the head, sending him reeling. Discombobulated, the blue stallion rushes once more, only to be tripped by the grey bandit leader.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk…” the grey leader shakes his head. “I thought you’d be more fun than this…” The leader whistles. “Get up, we’re not done playing yet.”
The blue stallion quickly gets to his feet, a trail of blood streaming from his forehead. His eyes pierce through the blood, staring through the grey leader. The blue stallion takes a deep breath, and his eyes close angrily as he rushes forward, too fast for the leader to evade, getting caught in the jetstream, the other bandits frantically attempt to flee, before being knocked off their feet. The grey bandit leader frantically grabs at the blue stallion’s back, managing to grab hold of his wings for a split moment, managing to break one and dislocate the other before being slammed into the wall with all the force the blue stallion could muster.
The grey stallion let out a blood-curdling groan as his spine snapped. The leader falls lifelessly to the ground as the blue stallion turns to the rest of the bandits, all in shock, as he shows off a sharp set of teeth to them. They all start to panic and run, and all bump into each other before finally scurrying away.
The blue stallions sighs, wiping the blood from his forehead, he turns to the mare, still cowering. “Are you okay?” he asks the mare.
For a moment, the mare is hesitant to respond, trying to scurry away, her wounds stopping her in her attempts.
“Please don’t move.” the blue stallion calmly tells her. She hesitantly nods in agreement, still scared for her life. “I promise I won’t hurt you, and neither will they anymore.” The blue stallion picks her up and she cringes in pain as he puts her carefully on his back. He checks to see if she is secure before starting to walk towards the hospital.
It takes them a few moments to get to the hospital and as they enter, they’re immediately seen to by the doctors and nurses. They first take the bat pony mare off the blue stallion’s back, and then attempt to escort the blue stallion as well. He declines and requests to follow the doctors with the mare. The nurse nods in agreement and points her head towards the room they went to. The stallion nods and makes his way into the room, seeing the doctors hooking her up to the IVs and monitors.
After a few moments, they leave her to rest, and the blue stallion sits in a chair, and patiently awaits her to awaken…
--
The sun starts bleeding into the small hospital room, shining over the blue stallion’s eyes. He begins to open his eyes and notices that the mare is also awake and was looking at him. He was surprised and didn’t know what to do, so he just stared back at her. After a while of silence, the mare started to speak:
“I--, I want to say thank you… If it weren’t for you, I would have been a bad pony’s play doll… But… Why?” The mare looks at him with sincerity, “Why, when no one else would come to my aid; Why did you?”
The blue stallion pauses for a second before responding, “I couldn’t let myself ignore a mare’s cry for help.”
The mare smiles at him and the stallion smiles back. The two do not exchange anything but looks for the next few minutes, before finally the blue stallion speaks, “What’s your name if you don’t mind?” The mare nods to him.
“My name is Rose Heart…” she pauses for another moment. “May I ask what your name is?”
The blue stallion smiles, “My name is Bit.” Rose smiles and giggles.
“I like that name. It suits you.” Bit smiles again, his grin getting bigger by the time that passes.
The two continue to converse, talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Idle conversations turn into heart-felt remembrances. As the time passes, Bit’s eyes start to flutter as he finally succumbs to his injuries and collapses. Rose begins to panic and immediately calls out for help. The available nurses rush in, they notice Bit on the floor, unresponsive to their pleas for him to get up. The nurses yell out for immediate help from the doctors.
As the doctors rush in with a gurney, Rose Heart’s expression is plagued with worry. While the nurses get Bit up onto the gurney, the doctors turn towards Rose Heart and begin to sigh with concern.
“Did you know this stallion?” the largest of the doctors said with a stern voice.
Rose heart sunk down in the bed, hiding her nose under the covers. The only thing she can manage is a very low and almost inaudible “yes…”
The doctor sighs once more, his expression changes to a more caring one. “If this stallion was your friend, we’d like to keep you updated.” he shuffles in place, seeing that the shy mare wasn’t talking to him. “Well, we’re going to check his vitals and his general condition. As far as we can ascertain, it’s not anything too serious. But, just to be safe, we’ll have to admit him as well. If you wouldn’t mind sharing the room, we’ll put him in here.”
Rose Heart comes slowly out from hiding and simply nods and looks away.
The doctor gives a nod of acknowledgement, before signaling the other doctors to gather their equipment. As the doctors move Bit to the adjacent end of the room, Rose Heart cannot help but watch, with a mild trickle of tears streaming from her face.
The doctors keep a low voice, as to not startle Bit or, worse, worry Rose. Rose couldn’t bear to listen anyways; the thought of hearing the horrible things that might have happened to Bit sickened her. She turned away from the doctors, and silently laid in bed. As the doctors left, the only audible things, were the sound of a heart monitor and the faint, raspy wheezing of the stallion across the room.
--
The next morning, the first thing Rose can do is look next to her; unfortunately, the doctors had closed the curtain divider between the two. This left Rose to worry and, as she battled what thoughts she had, silently weep. The time was excruciatingly drawn out, each minute stretching out to several hours. Eventually, the worry became too much, and she began to rise from the bed…
“Ma’am?”
Rose was startled and retreated back to her spot on the bed, shaking mildly from the sudden shock.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” A small mare stepped into the room, brushing her hair off to the side. “I simply came to see how you were faring, take your vitals and ask what you would like for lunch.” Rose looked around to see the time, but there was no clock anywhere in the room. The nurse notices this and immediately chuckles lightly, “It’s about a quarter ‘til noon.” Rose couldn’t believe that is was almost noon, and she had heard nothing from or about Bit since he collapsed.
The nurse begins to take Rose’s vitals, and check up on her wounds. “Hm…” she pauses for a moment, “Your vitals seem to be a bit elevated, your pulse rate is rather high.” Now that she had noticed, Rose’s heart felt like it was beginning to tear through. Rose’s eyes whisk themselves involuntarily towards the curtain. The nurse identifies what the problem is immediately.
“Oh… I see. Give me a moment.” the nurse leaves the room for a moment, taking the equipment with her, and returns with a hospital gown. “I would endeavor you to wear this. It gets rather cold in these rooms sometimes.”
Rose hesitates for a moment before nodding, and taking the gown and putting it on.
“Please be careful, your IV can only move so fast with you.” With this, the nurse leaves the room.
Rose carefully gets up, taking her IV with her, she opens the curtain. She gasps as she sees Bit, He had lacerations across his back, his wings were flaccid and drooping beside him and his breath was weak and raspy. Rose gasps as she sees her savior lying in such a condition, and can’t help but shake her head and close her eyes, hoping this is all just a horrible dream. Unfortunately, as she opens her eyes, the vision does not disappear from her. Rose manages to get herself together and musters the strength to come closer to Bit. While she steps forward, Bit shifts slightly, and his eyes flutter open. Rose, for a split moment, stands completely still, almost shocked to see him waking up so soon.
Bit looks around for a moment and sighs, before adjusting his eyes to Rose. Bit tries to smile, but the weak smirk is all but convincing.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” Bit asks, his voice still hoarse from exhaustion.
Rose looks away for a moment, Bit noticing a small trail of tears on her face. Before Bit could comment on this, Rose had started to speak, “I-I’m doing okay. The bigger question is, how are you feeling?”
Bit shuffles, “Fine, I guess.” Bit couldn’t feel much, as the doctors, and his eye, had both been giving him pain relievers, the large dosing seeming to cloud his head mildly.
Rose shakes her head, “Something must be wrong, you collapsed before. So something has to be wrong.”
Bit smiles, “Don’t worry so much, anything I have will heal.” Bit moves his right wing, the only one he could, as the doctors had managed to put it back into place. “See? Already starting progress.”
Rose can’t help but giggle, but she still held her concerns for Bit. “If you insist… I have no reason not to believe you.”
Bit manages another smile, this one nearly beaming. Once again, the two started talking, all about nothing, and yet everything. Over the next few hours, the two ask questions about each other, each one, wanting to know more about the other. The hours turned into days, each one showing their recovery with more fervor than the previous times. After about two weeks, the both of them were given a discharge from the hospital,
“You two have made outstanding recovery in such a short amount of time, so we have no problem letting you go. But remember to come for check-ups.”
Bit and Rose both nod, almost in unison, before turning flank and starting to leave. Bit turns towards Rose and smiles; she smiles back. Both of them had something to say, but each one waiting for the other to say it. Both kept their silence on their walk around the town, until finally Bit decided to ask, “We’ve only known each other for a little while… But I feel like I have a connection with you. Granted, the way we met was a little… strenuous. But all that time we spent getting to know each other…”
Rose’s eyes started to gleam, her face starting to lighten into a smile, anticipating what Bit’s next words would be.
“So, I have something to ask you. Will you go out with me?”
Rose smiles widely and leaps onto Bit, taking him mildly by surprise.
“Yes! I would love to!” her excitement was the best he’d ever seen, making him smile as well. With that, both of them walk off together into the distant sunlight.
--
The night was young, and the couple had been dating for some months. Bit had convinced Rose to go with him to one of the fanciest restaurants in town. The restaurant was a beautiful sight - the walls decorated with various arts, pictures and famous ponies. The chandelier glimmered as the soft light shone down past it’s fingers and the tables all neatly decorated; napkins folded into origami, the silverware shone as if brand new and the flowers bouquet in the center of the table filled with freshly cut, seasonal flowers. As they entered the establishment, the waitress immediately spots them and shows them to their table.
“Hello, my name Ves, and I will be your waitress tonight, may I start you both off with something to drink?”
After some time glancing over the menu, and exchanging glances with each other, they come to their decision.
“Yes, we’ll take a bottle of the finest chardonnay you sell here.” Bit replies, and Ves nods, writes on her ticket and makes her way towards the door to the kitchen. Bit calls her over before she can make it to the doors, and exchanges a few words with her. Ves simply nods and then recedes into the kitchen.
“I can’t believe you brought me here… It’s… It’s so beautiful inside.” Rose managed to say.
Bit smiled and replied with, “Only the best for you my darling.” Rose blushed and smiled at him, her eyes saying all that she meant to him.
“Oh, you…” she says, still mildly blushing at him.
Ves comes back through the doors with a platter of glasses and a bucket with the chardonnay, the glasses already pre-filled for them. She sets down the platter on the empty table next to them, and then uses her magic to slowly bring the two glasses down to the table, both on Bit’s side of the table. Ves turns towards Rose, and begins conversing with her. After a moment of conversation between the two mares, the waitress takes her place in front of the table and pulls out her ticket.
“Now, what may I get for you today?”
The couple exchange a glance. “I think that will be it for now” Bit replies.
Ves nods and closes the ticket and walks back to the greeting stand, awaiting another guest.
Bit hands Rose her glass, and the two toast and begin drinking their chardonnay. Moments later, as they are finishing their drinks, Rose notices something against her lips on the last sip of her drink. She puts down the glass and glances at what is inside. She gasps, and turns towards Bit, who is smiling at her, and before he could say a word, Rose leaped onto him.
“Yes! Yes!” she exclaims, “Oh, you’ve made me so happy!” her smile beaming with joy, the two pay their tab, and walk out of the restaurant.
The couple continues their stroll around the town, until Rose directs them to the park and they sit down on a bench in the part of the park not many know about. The two admire the stars for a moment, until Rose slips from the bench to the front of Bit. “I love you Bit” Rose whispers in his ears
“I love you too” Bit whispered back.
