Life had always been hard for Sterling Spear. Being born a bland-ass equine in a world full of insanely amazing quadrupeds doesn’t help all that much either; nor does being raised in the back alley town of Sunflower Shire out in the middle of Celestia-knows-where. But all that had changed in the most recent years for the lowly earth pony. He had been granted the most prestigious offer a stallion in his position could ever receive: the chance to train and compete in the Crystal Empire to be a Royal Guard, and guard Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor himself.
