Chasing Memories

Chapter 1

Load Full Story

Lightning Chaser galloped through the dark snowy woods to escape her captors. Her elder sister, Queen Pinkamena, had ordered her to be brought to the palace, dead or alive. Lightning wanted to live, so she made a run to freedom. She was a known fugitive, a traitor to her people.

All because of love.

As she ran, tears began to fall down her lavender temples. She thought about how Appoline and Zeppelin, who weren't even eight, looked up at her as the guardsmen shot them. Lightning had grabbed her daughter's doll as she made a break for it. She didn't think Dorian wouldn't be behind her. When she had turned around, she saw her beloved was not with her.

Shock had turned to dread. She had left him to die, just like she did her parents. Her guilt became heavier than before. Dorian Julien was dead. And it was all her fault.

She shook her head in dismay. She had to leave. Dorian must've known that only one could live while the other dies. Lightning still found it unfair.

She kept running. A few minutes later she had made it to Crescent Moon Bay, where her secret cave was hidden. She looked at the crystal clear water in longing. She was so thirsty. She contemplated taking a sip, but then she heard a rustling in the trees behind her. Uh oh, she thought. She dashed further into the marsh where her cave was hidden.

She found the cave hidden amongst the reeds and tall grasses. She zipped through the plants and into her hideout. She managed to crawl into the center of the cave, and she lay curled up, wanting to cry. Lightning Chaser didn't understand why her sister wanted her dead, but she knew she couldn't stay in Lunaria. She slowly fell asleep, gaining her power to finally leave this dark place.

Pinkamena scowled. Her treacherous sister escaped once again. Hmm… no matter. Lightning Chaser would know that this is a battle she cannot win, for Pinkamena had the upper hand.

Lightning Chaser would die for her insolence. No one could wed an Outsider, not while she was still Queen. Luna knows that the Day Dwellers could never be trusted.

“Tomorrow is another day,” Pinkamena whispered to herself. Lightning Chaser would be brought to justice. Lightning Chaser would be killed.

Pinkamena cantered to her vanity. She stared at her reflection in spite, thinking of all the ways she could capture Lightning Chaser, and all the ways the Traitor Princess would be killed.

{A few days later…}

Lightning Chaser woke to the sound of the clanking of many metal chains. She opened her dual-color eyes and saw that she was trapped in a cold steel container. She muttered a Lunarian curse under her breath. She should have known she would’ve been captured.

Lightning tested her bonds. She laughed quietly. Dumb fools, they didn’t even put her hooves in chains. That made it easier to escape. She felt her horn. Her eyes widened with shock.

Her horn was broken!

“Damn,” she muttered. No magic. She was stuck.

She shivered. Wow, was it cold in there! Lightning had to escape, and fast!
