Ch. 2 – Mechanic.

The time flew for Alina at the library, she had checked out so many books that it was impossible to read them all in one sitting. The time was approaching 6 o’clock, without her realizing it.

Daisy, as promised, gets out of work going on route to pick her up. As she pulls up to the library, she could see Alina through the window reading and a mare next to her tell her something. Alina nods, getting her stuff and walking out of the library. “Forgot about the time?” Daisy asks Alina as she hops into the car.

“Kinda” She struggles to place the bag of book by her legs.

“That’s…a lot of book. What do you need them for?” Daisy asks as Alina closes the door; Daisy starts to drive.

“To study of course, have you ever wondered how Twilight became a Princess?”

“You want to become a Princess?”

“No, but I thrive to be that smart, she must know so many good spell…I can only imagine…” Alina holds one of the books to her chest.

Daisy chuckles a little, “Okay Princess Alina” She playfully mocks.

Alina smiles, “How’d the repairing go?”

“I fixed the engine, but the truck’s body needs the parts to come in for it.”

“How long will that take?”

“Maybe a week, but I have a quicker option” Daisy states.

“Oh? What would that be?”

“As it so happens, I have the same truck model at my place. I don’t use it since I have this beauty” Daisy pats the steering wheel of her car. “I could use it for the part for yours”

“Oh Daisy you don’t have to don’t have to do that…” Alina says shyly.

“You’re right, never mind” Daisy sticks out her tongue.

“Wait what?” Alina says in surprised tone.

“I’m kidding hehe, we’ll go there right now if that’s okay with you.” Daisy suggest.

“To your house?”

“Mhm, that’s where my truck is.”

“And what about mine?”

“It’s in the shop…maybe we should go get that, the janitors should be cleaning up the office area, so I should be able to get in. If not Manager Viola is there till 8 P.M. We’ll go get a truck with a trailer to pull your truck to my house” Daisy says, turning the car at a U-turn, drifting a little causing Alina to hold onto her books and seatbelt.

“Goodness!” Alina shouts.

“Oops, that wasn’t on purpose, my bad” Daisy smirks, Alina sighs relaxing herself. “The truck now runs; it just looks like crap”

“Yeah…my fault. How much will that cost by the way?” Alina asks.

“Dunno yet”

“I have to know the cost to see if I can afford the body change.”

“I thought Fred took care of that?” Daisy questions.

“That was just or the engine…”

“Hmm, okay well the body repair isn’t part of my company work…so I could do it for free.” Daisy suggest, she has a friendly smile.

“R-really?” Alina was in near disbelief.

“Hmm, wait, what do you work in?”

“Nothing right now, but I can write a lot, and have an alright understanding of magic.” Alina chuckles and sighs.

“I’d hate to charge you for it…how about a future favor?”

“Deal, but nothing extreme.” Alina smiles a bit, feeling better about her situation.

“Alright” Daisy says, she drives towards a less densely populated part of Ponyville, where the building of the town started to fade and the places started to blend into a more outer suburban area. She pulls up to a decently sized two-story house complete with a high ceiling garage that has space for two cars and a backyard.

“You live here with someone?”

“Nope, just me. I’m pretty independent and my job pays me well” Daisy answers, clicking a button than opens the garage, she parks inside. Turning off the vehicle, she goes to the door leading inside; she notices Alina still in the car, having troubles with her books, “Let me help” Daisy goes over, holding some her books.

“Thanks, where’s the truck?”

“Backyard, I don’t use it much at all, come in, have you eaten?” She asks. Going inside.

Alina follows from behind, levitating many of the books in a stack, “Not since this morning.”

“Woah, it’s been hours. Here, I’ll make something really quick” Daisy sets the books down on a small table, going to prepare something before Alina had a chance to deny.

“Oh uh okay.” Alina sits on the couch, taking a book out. Daisy turns on the stove, starting to boil some potatoes to later mash them. As Daisy finishes boiling the potatoes and places them in a bowl to mash, she takes notice of Alina slowly falling asleep while still reading. “She reads too much” Daisy smiles a bit; Alina keels over on the couch, snoring softly.

Daisy had finished making the food and had eaten by the time Alina opened her eyes, she lifts her head up looking around in mild confusion. “Daisy’s house…” She didn’t see Daisy anywhere in sight. There was however, a note on the table that Alina went over to read, it read;

“Alina, I went to go haul over your truck to my place, it shouldn’t take too long. Also I left the food for you on the stove, hope it’s still warm.”

“I must’ve been out for quite a while…” Alina comments, looking as the outside was changing into nighttime. She goes over to the mashed potatoes, there was a variety of items Daisy had left out for Alina to put on them. “Mm, cheese, butter, salad!” She says mixing it together, she searches the kitchen for some sort of chips to use as a dipping tool for the potatoes. She looks through many cabinets. “Where are those chips? Does she even have any?” Alina opens the fridge noticing it lacks some basic foods. “We’re going to go shopping when she’s back…” She closes it and sits at the table, eating. Noticing a few papers on the table, she curiously picks them up; overdue bills.

Her ears perk up when she hears noise coming from the garage, distracting her from the bills. Taking another bite of food, she sneaks over to the door dividing the garage from the house. Putting an ear at the door she hears a drill and some music. She opens the door seeing as her truck’s body parts are being removed by Daisy.

Daisy stops, turning around, “Alina, you’re up”

“When did you come back?” Alina walks towards her.

“About 40 minutes ago, have you eaten?”

“Mostly, about that though. We need to go to the store”

“We do?” Daisy removes a part.

“Yes! You have no food!” Alina argues.

“Hey there, calm, yeah I guess I don’t. I can do that later, unless you really feel like going now”

“Oops, never mind, you appear to be busy…shall I go back inside?” Alina shyly asks.

“You’re okay here, you can go back in if you’d like. What time do you want me to take you home?”

Alina thinks a bit, “Whenever is fine with me” She moves to where Daisy is working, “Anyway I could help?”

“Some water would be nice; do you know anything about cars?”

“I know how to finance one, or lower a loan on it, what gas it takes. Oh and how to drive one!” Alina grins.

“How about repairing one?”

“I know how to change the oil and tires…”

“That’s basic stuff, any more in-depth things?” Daisy asks. Alina shakes her head slowly, “I can show you on your truck how to remove these parts” Daisy moves around her getting a different sized wrench.

“Maybe a book on it would serve me well…”

“This kinda stuff takes hooves-on experience.” Daisy unbolts a nut, placing it carefully on a magnetic plate. “And since you’re a unicorn, this sort of things may be easier for you than me”

Alina moves to see at a better angle to watch her unbolt. Daisy was good at her craft, usually maintaining a cool status as she worked, but Alina watching her caused her to become nervous, even sweat a little.

“C-can you go get that water I asked for?” Daisy asks, wiping off the sweat off her brow.

“Oh yeah! Of course” Alina giggles, leaving immediately. Daisy watches her go, takes a deep breath and resumes working.

Alina searches for the water bottles, “I wonder if she would mind if it’s just tap water” She look in the cabinets for cups, as she looks, she sees a cabinet above the fridge, “Hmm maybe there?” She opens it just as Daisy steps in; Daisy dashes to close that cabinet.

“N-not that one!” Daisy says, blushing and with great defensiveness.

“Uh…okay? What’s in there?” Alina was now curious.

“My...uh, nothing! Just some er…b-batteries!” She moves away from it, “The cups are in the dishwasher...hehe…”

“Got it, sorry I couldn’t find it in time to serve you some” Alina lifts a cup and fills it up.

“It’s okay, I was just about to go on break anyways” Daisy smirks, “So those books, what are they about?”

“Spells, I just need to practice some more”

“Like teleporting that engine?” Daisy laughs.

“Yeah…I thought I had it down, guess I was going too far…I mean I had just teleported the whole truck! What was I thinking…?”

“It was amazing…”

“But I crushed the roof of the truck…”

“Yes, but you actually teleported it all, that’s really fascinating…” Daisy smiles at Alina.

Alina blushes a bit, “Thank you…you’re a good mechanic too…”

“I’m not done yet” Daisy chuckles, “I can guarantee top quality, want to go on home now?”

“Oh yeah, um…” Alina thinks, “Yes…if it’s not too much trouble”

“Nah, I said I could before. Heh, let’s go” Daisy drinks the water quickly and goes back into the garage, getting in the car and turning it on. Alina hops in after her, bag and books on her lap.

“I live in the middle of town; I’ll give you the address: 6282 Wooden Lane.”

“In the center of town hu? I prefer it out here”

“It’s with my parents” Alina adds.

“Ah okay, how…old are you? If you don’t mind me asking?”

“Nineteen. Heh, how about you?”

“I’m twenty heh, one year older.”

“Depends on the month, I’m from August, the 2nd”

“Really? Wow I’m May the 5th! So we’re like four months apart” Daisy smiles, Alina giggles. The driver opens the garage with a remote control and backs up into the parkway, then onto the road. “I won’t go to wild hehe” Daisy drives onto the main road.
