Elemental: Power is Magic

Everything had been fine before. She had been unbearably lonely without her sister, sure, but she had been safe. Her ponies had been safe. And why? Because she had been powerful.

But now...

For years she had not been connected to the elements. They had been under the influence of Twilight Sparkle and her friends, and that was fine. If anything, Equestria had been more secure under their protection, for she herself had always been too busy to take action for minor threats which would then grow great. But, alas, there was one key thing that she had overlooked when she had placed so much trust in her loyal student; experience. And it had been the downfall of the young princess and her friends when the changeling, Queen Metamorphosis, attacked the kingdom in a much more subtle way than her mother before her.

As the beam of bright yellow shot towards her, she knew there was nothing that she could do; her magic simply wasn't strong enough anymore to keep herself alive, let alone her ponies. And so she flared out her wings and, in full acceptance of her grim fate, shot towards the beam of acidic, caustic magic in the hopes to take the exposed changeling Queen down with her.

And then, in a momentary cascade of agony, she fell from the sky.
