"Starlight! Starlight!" Twilight burst into the library where her student was studying. "Uh, yes Twilight?" Starlight looked up, startled. "I have a friendship assignment for you!" The alicorn started to drag the unicorn out of the room.

"Oh, wow, really,what is it?" Starlight started to walk beside her mentor. "Well I read that sometimes doing embarrasing things together make everything better, so me,you and the girls are going to karaoke!"

"WHAT?!" Starlight shrieked, stopping dead in her tracks. "No! Not going!" Twilight sighed and rubbed her forehead anxiously. "I was afraid this would happen, look if you don't want to, you don't have to-NOW!" The next thing Starlight knew she was being hoisted up by Rarity, Fluttershy,Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, with Twilight helping by using her magic.

They all ended up outside a Karaoke bar named 'The Pony Polka.' Diamond Tiara's mother was there with her sister, but other than that it was empty. Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash instantly made a break for the bar, the other following behind. "I'll take a scotch,and some for my friends" Rainbow palmed a bag of bits into the bartender's awaiting hooves.

In seconds, even Starlight was feeling a bit tipsy after two jugs of liquor. "Here's to family" Applejack slurred, and the five other mares raised their mugs up high and toasted. "Family? Applejack, you know, besides possibly Pinkie Pie and yourself, none of you are related right?" Starlight laughed.

The other six mares turned to stare at her. "Why,whatever are you talking about Darling?" Rarity asked. "Of course we're family!" Starlight looked into her six friends eyes, and saw, despite all of them being hazy and unfocused, they still managed to seem sharp and bright, and Starlight saw the deep sincerity within them.

"What . . what do you mean?" Starlight asked, confused. "I think what they mean dearie, is that friends are the family you choose"  the bartender, a well known D.J called Vinyl Scratch said.

"Pretty dysfunctional family"  Spoiled Rich muttered snidely and her sister nodded smirking. Damn, and just when ah thought she was improving after Diamond Tiara stood up to her, Applejack thought,dismayed.

"Dysfunctional? I prefer . .  unique" Rainbow said, and Pinkie leaped up onto the stage, pulling the blue pegasus up with her. The pink earth pony threw back her head and started singing

Giggling, Rainbow Dash joined in. They stood on their hind legs, back to back, with Pinkie swinging her tail in a circle

Applejack shrugged and hopped up on the stage as well, singing in her country accent, with Rainbow and Pinkie doing the background song.

Twilight smiled and teleported on stage, taking the lead this time. Starlight looked mortified.

Rarity sighed slightly and wobbled her way up the stage, using her powerful voice to draw attention to herself

Timidly Fluttershy joined them on stage, and it wasn't long before her amazingly sweet voice for backup support. "Oh Celestia" Starlight facehoofed.

Starlight, who for the entire song, had been sitting there,staring in shock and horror, suddenley shrugged and leaped up onto the stage to join her friends.

The seven of them danced out of the bar in a conga line. Starlight caught a glimpse of Filthy Rich. She and her sister both had to pick their jaws up off the ground.

The townsponie's nearby stopped and watched in shock as the 'heroes of Equestria' paraded past them.

Scootaloo and Applebloom  burst out of the crowd, and even though Scootaloo's singing was awful, Rainbow Dash gave her an appreciative hoot.

Dear Diary.

Yesterday my mentor, friends and family took me out to a bar for karoke.

And I learned two things;

One friends are the family you chose, and no matter how odd or embarrassing they may be, they will always be there for you.

The other thing I learned is that when your friends go out drinking, it's best to have some advil and a puke bucket on hoof at all times.
