A Gesture From My Heart.
Six months ago.
Smoke, there was so much smoke, and the crackling of wood as hot cinders and embers make it snap and splinter as it charred the walls of the house in a blazing inferno. Sunset Shimmer slipped in and out of focus, the house...the living room, it was the last thing she remembered...bits and pieces of her memory as she faded back from losing consciousness. The world was out of focus, everything was that blackness and cold you feel coupled with the echos of memories and unfamiliar sounds and colors. The kind you feel when when you're not quite dead yet but losing connection to reality, like a nurse who botches a blood drawing. The first thing she saw as reality came back to her, was a paramedic in his blue and white pressed uniform looking down on her as her hearing returned. Then her memory started to come back, it was the Friday after what this world called Thanksgiving, in her world it was The Day Of Great Giving. She thought it was a bit early but the stores in this world have Hearth's warming...no Christmas decorations up BEFORE Nightmare...Halloween. So what harm was there putting up the tree early? Then weeks went by...school...life the usual...you forget the little details in life that can make all the difference in the world sometimes.
This difference just so happened to equal one of the most common causes of a house fire, a dry Christmas Tree. An all too familiar story, a negligent owner of a natural tree leaving it without water for too long, and the lights cause it to burst into flames and incinerate a house. She had plugged the lights on and admired them for only a moment one night before she sleepily sat down on the couch and dozed off, a minute couldn't hurt could it? Well that's what she thought one minute and the next she found herself lying out on her front lawn with a paramedic giving her oxygen. Sunset looked down at herself after verifying she could move and wasn't seriously hurt. Her clothes were completely covered in ashes from the smoke and while she hadn't been burned some of her clothes were tattered and singed not to mention ruined.
"Oh..oh hell...oh holly shit, what happened?" She asked looking around to see so many of her friends standing and looking at her. From Fluttershy with her usual look of concern and a first aid kit under arm, she would later say she had been the fist to help. To the first real friend she had ever made in this world, Twilight Sparkle. Twilight was in shock but looked relived to see that aside the initial panic and her soot covered appearance, she hadn't been hurt.
"Sunset? Oh thank Celestia you're alright!" (It was the ponyverese Twilight visiting to see her friends in this world) Twilight said as she ran up to her friend. Twilight wrapped her arms around Sunset and hugged her as gently as she could, not knowing if she'd broken anything or not.
"Hey I"m okay Twilight, just...gimme some room okay?" She said chuckling softly, it was then that Rarity stepped forward and approached her, a spray bottle and hankerchief in hand, she began to spray some rose water on her face and wipe the thick coat of dusty soot off as best as she could, then she used her hand to try and dust her clothes off a little.
"Oh Sunset darling this is just dreadful...look at you! You're a mess and just look at your pretty little house!" She said in distress as the crowd turned to look up and see her house. True to her word the blaze was easily a four alarm fire and consuming the house fast. It was...very depressing to say the least, watching the walls get swallowed up by the inferno. The windows looked like portals to hell as flames and smoke spewed out of them, even The tough girl's Rainbow Dash and Gilda let themselves cry...softly and inside.
"Oh Sunset...all your things...gone." Fluttershy said as she turned away unable to look anymore. Sunset stood up and brushed some soot from her top. Her clothes and furniture all gone, and so was her place to live. In spite of this, Sunset was just happy to be alive and safe. She looked into the faces of her frineds...and smiled.
"Hey girls that's not what matters, what matters is that I'm alive and in one piece, and I'm so glad you all came out here just to make sure I'm okay." She said that as she began to hug every one of her friends and schoolmates, asking, "Where's the firefighter who pulled me to safety?" looking around as the faces in the crowd only looked around uncertain. It wasn't until Rainbow Dash spoke that the awkward silence was broken.
"IT uhhh wasn't a firefighter who saved you Sunset." She said blushing hard as she stood aside, hiding behind her was a light toned boy with short brown spiky hair. He blushed so hard it could even be seen under his skin tone.
"It...was nothing." He said before introducing himself, "My name's Steel...Steel Blade.
Now...
"Hey BIg Mac head's up!" Applejack called from the upper floor as she threw another load of left over lumber down. Unknown to her the boards shook some sawdust on the floor that was the ceiling over the basement and make a few specks of dirt fall into Adagio Dazzle's eye after taking some goggles off. As her boyfriend Bulls Eye held her head and blew the dust from her eye; above on the first floor of the nearly complete house, Steel Blade the boy who had pulled her from the couch as the Christmas tree burned away and began taking the living room in it's blaze. Now he was placing the last few stones for the top of the fireplace (Which Sunset Promised to be more careful with) onto the putty holding the mantle together.
"Whooo wee everyone okay down there?" Applejack called as her brother peeked at the stair to her.
"EEEyup! We're fine sis, ah gotta say Sunset's pad is really coming along nicely." He said before resuming his job of putting the pipes in the first floor bathroom together, the sink just had to be installed and the water had to be turned on. It was now Early May six months and already 2010 Faust Drive was really starting to return from the smoldering wreck it had been that fateful November night. It usually took a little longer to build a two story house, but call it the work of almost the whole school (gee it felt it had been four or so years yet what year were they in school again?) even a few who knew nothing about contracting and countless hours of hard work and determination all to give Sunset back her home.
Since the fire she had been staying with Bull and Adagio, as a girl with no home most of those years the Siren had lived in that world, she knew just what it could be like. They had opened their home to her while Bull's close friend Steel had promised he'd rally everyone, raise every penny and do whatever it took to get Sunset her home back. Sunset was thankful for the room with Adagio; her sisters, and Bull. There was however one little problem, the nights she could hear Bull and Adagio....getting it on.
"Getting turned on, hun?" Bull Said through the walls as Sunset lay on her back wide awake hearing it all, "I can say the same for me." He continued as Sunset Sighed and turned over in her small guest bed. Bull didn't mean for the conditions to be what they where but he was already bunking three other girls in the house and they had their own bedrooms, the only one left was the small room for guests that doubled as a laundry room to boot. He promised his father he'd never touch a thing in his study until he and Adagio where married and the house officially his, and the living room had uncomfortable all leather couches.
"Bull....." She said. "Take my pants off." Sunset groaned, not that she minded them doing this they WHERE an item and it was his house.
"Woah." He replied. "Not wanting to waste time, eh?" She heard Bull reply, Sunset only wished...she had someone to have fun with the way they did.
"I want you, Bull." She said. "I want you and I want you now!" Sunset sighed again, celibacy sucked so much.
"Don't think I've ever seen this side of you before." Thee walls soon after began to rattle with the bed banging into it, Adagio cussed like a sailor dropping enough F bombs to make an HBO producer blush, before demanding he break out the strawberry lube and "the beads." Sunset opened the drawer of her night table and took some earplugs and a bottle of zzzquil, she didn't even bother with a measuring cap and the plugs went as far as she could make them go. She also broke out Aria's "Welcome gift" to her, a mini "massager" from Brookstone, her words to her when she opened it...'I promise you're gonna need it living next to Adagio.'
Now at last she could return to her own house, but it was just so....frustrating. Apparently guys don't have the problem of 'everyone's getting some but me.' She was a girl with no boyfriend to sate her needs, to make matters worse it was May. Back home in Equestria most mare would be in their heat cycles now, and while she was in the body of a human outside, inside Sunset was still a unicorn mare. Every May she felt that familiar itch and tingle, coupled with having to walk around with wet panties from being aroused. She had to wear super absorbent Maxis to keep from looking like she had a bladder problem when she went out, Thankfully it wasn't so bad she needed to treat it like one.
Usually Sunset could ride out these 'heats." The way she had back home, but after six months of constantly putting up with Adagio and Bull, she just couldn't take it anymore, the question was...just who could be the one? So now Sunset thought this over as she helped Bull with the furniture, most of it donations from charity but a few was bought after insurance cleared. She and Bull placed her new queen sized bed in the upstairs bed room.
"Hey Bull, I just wanna say thanks for letting me stay at your house with you while the place was being rebuilt." She said as she wiped some sweat from her brow as Adagio got a set of her old silk and satin sheets out.
"Oh think nothing of it Sunset, I just hope you aren't feeling to repressed from those sessions you heard."   
Sunset turned red as an apple and covered her mouth in surprise.
"You...you knew?" She said as she watched Adagio steal a kiss from Bull smugly.
"You know Pete, it sure nice of you to give Sunset your old PlayStation." Moe Hawk said as he hooked it into her new tv when it was in place he began browsing the tabs.
"Eh I just got Dash a new....I felt like she could use some cheering up after all that happened, it's got a good number of games and a few episodes downloaded on it." He said as Moe checked the video tab.
"Hey what's this?...what the fuck? Dude you watch Sailor Moon on this thing?" Moe said as he chuckled seeing several episodes listed on the video list. Peter blushed and tried to cover it up.
"Hey this was Rainbow Dash's console before!" He said as Gilda came in from the backyard, armfuls of freshly chopped wood for the new fireplace in her arms.
"You downloaded those episodes you little liar." Gilda said as she passed, prompting Peter to groan and stick his tongue at her, she flipped him off but she was just teasing...in her own special way.
"Gilda Griffin if you weren't my girlfriend's gal-pal I swear I'd..."
"You what dweeb?" She said throwing the logs in the steel wood bin. Peter grabbed the ash shovel and Gilda the poker. "Ha you grabbed a shovel?" She said as she made her poker clash with his shovel.
"Not what you grab to fight with babe, it's how you use it." He said as he took a swipe at her but she jumped back dodging it."
"What'd you call me?" She said with a smirk as she began to 'fence' with the tools with him. It was a scene right from the old Zorro and Robin Hood movies, which is just what he began evoking.
"Out of the night, when the full moon is bright comes a horsemen known as Zorro, this bold renegade, carves a Z with his blade! A Z that stands for Zorro!" He cried out as he lead her up the stairs swinging his shovel.
"Oh quit goofing around you man-child!" She said before he leap at, wrapped his arms around her hard, and he kissed her. His lips pressing amorously and passionately onto Gilda's.
"I love it when you roughhouse." he said as he broke that kiss.
"Hey dweeb, you wanna give the whole crew a show while you're at it?" She asked as she felt his hands on her bare skin of her back, but he went no further.
"Mhhh no but I will give you a night to remember when we finish here my soaring bird of prey." He said planting Pepe Le Pew like kisses along her chest and neck, even making those kissing noises he did.
"You suck up...Fuck I love you." she said as she began blushing red.
Elsewhere in the house, the others where helping to prepare dinner. Snails who had a personal connection to Sunset (if a very...regrettable one) Grabbed a box of frozen fish fillets from the freezer and tore the box open as he set the try out to pop them in the toaster oven. As he did, his friend Snips snapped at him while preparing some drinks. "Hey! I'm cookin the fish fillets!" Snips shouted as he snatched the box of breaded and fried cod fillets from Snails who sneered as he tried to take from him what he was making.
"Then gimme the Country Time jerk wad!" Snails shouted as he dropped the box to star trying to wrestle the canister of lemonade mix from him, there where gripes and groans as they struggled to snatch the can. The problem there was...well it was open. It only took a few moments but the both them got a blast of Country Time sugar all over them. A passing hoops who put a few pots on the stove had only one thing to say.
"Real smooth dorks." Scoreboard said as he placed the pots on the stove then turned to a cookbook to try and follow the recipe he was cooking.
Sunset was looking around, taking in the details of everything the others had put into the house. From Apple-wood finishing from real Sweet Apple Acres Trees, to the hand masonry of the floor molding all the while thinking of Steel. From his jacket with the two crossed swords, so like the cutie marks of her old home. His light brown hair and the fact that it was he who saved her from the fire, and moved heaven and earth to get everything she had in her new home...maybe just maybe.
"Hey Sunset Shimmer!" Pinkie Pie screamed from the kitchen a coat of flour in her pink bouncy hair and strawberry frosting all over her face. "Come on! Dinner's ready and everyone's gathering in the..." Before she can finish a wave of bubbly pink and white appears behind her. Pinkie quickly grabbed a pair of steak knives and began slashing and stabbing at the blob as it began oozing over her.
"want some help there with that...uhhh." Sunset said backing away from the door frame.
"Uhh on no just a little trouble with dessert you just go and enjoy the dinner with the others, back! Back! Bad strawberry bonanza blast cake get in the oven and bake! OK who put yeast in the cake batter?!" She yelled as the voice of Derpy called back.
"Cake?! I though that was for bread for making dinner rolls!" she said as she picked up a whisk and began to help pinkie beat back the cake. 'It's great to be home.' Sunset thought smiling as she watched the girls fighting the blob of warm over rising cake.
The dining room was one of the few still under some minor construction, the flood lights where still in place and the wires to tools which lay on saw horses and work tables, leftover piping and conduit bars where scattered about in bundles, and saw dust was strew about on a few places in need of being shop vacuumed up. All that couldn't distract from the oak and cherry finished table with a gorgeous spread that had been laid out for the ensemble gathering of friends. Pip and his father who ran a British imports shop in town, had provided a couple of fat and juicy geese; plum pudding, and all the trimmings. Brussels with chestnuts & sage; chunky roast potatoes, honey-roast carrots, crisp honey mustard parsnips, and spiced red cabbage. Traditionally this arrangement would be served for Christmas, and it was May. Given how Sunset had lost her old house during the holidays though you could argue it was an exception.
Pitchers of lemonade; southern style sweet tea, and freshly pressed apple juice spiced with cinnamon and brown sugar flowed from pitcher to glasses as platters were passed around and plates loaded up eats. Flatware clattered and rattled, most of it was heirloom silverware that Rarity had given to Sunset, on the promise she'd take as much care of it as her family had. Sunset sat beside Steel as everyone ate, it was the happiest she'd been since that fateful December day that cost her old house...but walls and electronics and everything else she "lost?" That could be replaced in time, nothing could ever replace the togetherness of her friends being close to her any the unity that rebuilding her home had given them.
"Everyone! Can I have your undivided attention?" She asked as she clanged her glass with a spoon. All eyes soon turned to her as she began to speak. "I'd just like to say...that I can't begin to thank you all for everything you've all done. The money raised, the work that you guys have put into building this house all for me, and you only asked on return that I enjoy the fruit of your labor....There's a saying from Equestria that I may have heard mentioned here but it bares repeating. A house is made of wood and stone, but a home is made of love and love alone." The words made that meal all the more tasty.
At long last everyone began to go home, one by one they pilled out the door into the night until Sunset was left with only one person. Steel Was busy trying to pack up the tools in the rooms that had been finished. Most Of the electricity and water had been installed and working, but a few minor finishing touches and a clean up was in order. "Hey Steel." Sunset said at him as he loaded a compressed air nail gun into a case. He looked up to see her standing in the door frame as she held out a hand to help him up. Steel took her hand as he got off the floor, Sunset noticed how firm his grip was, almost like an earth pony's hoof from back home.
"Thanks Sunset, Sorry if I'm a little over staying my welcome but I just wanted the place cleaned up a bit when we finish it off, hey least your bedroom's ready..no more...nights sleeping though Bull and Adagio huh?" He said blushing a bit.
"Yeah that will be a plus...so Summer's coming up, you got any plans?" She asked him as he got up and beat some dust of his coat.
"Well after the state fencing championships, my parents...get this..my parent's have a little present lined up for me. I know what it is and yet I can't wait to see it." He said happily as he fished for a folded piece of paper from his pocket, it was a folded up print out from a listing for a boat for sale a a forty-five yacht. "Your parents bought you a boat?" Sunset said in surprise."
"Yeah, and I already got a name picked out for her, I'll call her the Mareinatia, I don't know why but it just feels...right to me." He said smiling as he folded up the paper and put it away. "You know, I'd gladly give it all up if I only had the right person to go boating out on her with me." He said his demeanor shifted a bit. Sunset placed her hands on his shoulders and began to slowly and tenderly run the blades of his shoulders, even with the jacket she could a lot of firm hard muscle under his jacket.
"You mean you're...single?" She asked as she resumed her back rub, she felt him sigh and relax at her touch as she leaned close to him and took a soft whiff of his brown hair, wolfthorne shampoo.
"Well...in a manner of speaking...yes I don't really have a girlfriend unlike Bull..."
"Hey I just realized...what ever happened to Adagio's old boyfriend John? Did they?" She heitated to ask if they broke up.
"Well...he still see's Aria and Sonata, but he respected Adagio's wish to see other guys...even if they aren't....it's complicated but at best I'll say they're still friends and he and Bull are on a first name basis but as far as I know it's not like they are sharing her." He was interrupted by Sunset amorously ramming her mouth onto his hard, unable to contain herself any longer. She kissed him full on the lips making him gasp a muffled gasp into the kiss before he accepted it and returned it. She flashed him a smile that put the Mona Lisa to shame as she took his hand and began to lead him.
"Sunset?...isn't this...moving too fast?" He asked but she giggled like a wood nymph before dancing to her stairs like a breezeie.
"No...Six months ago, you pulled me from the inferno my house had become, and you went through all this just so I could have a new home. I just...I feel like it could be some kinda....call it fate that's bringing you and I together." She said as she began climbing her staircase. "Please Steel, will you be...my special somebody?...my special somepony?" She said as she made her pony ears waggle a bit cutely.
"Sunset...are...you sure this is...what you..want?" He asked as he ascended the stairs after her. "Sunset?" He said, turning his heaf to the side slightly in confusion at how pony like she acted before he found himself looking into her glimmering turquoise eyes.
"Steel...There's so much that I've been longing to feel, to experince, as both a pony and more so now as a human." She said as she took his hands and locked her gaze with his.
"Is that so?" He said teasingly as she began to nudge her bedroom door open, it was one of the most complete rooms in the house.
"Yes." She said as she began to softly take a whiff of his neck, steel wasn't wearing cologne, but his...scent was so bold, so brash and spicy it reminded her of a prime earth pony stallion so much. She gave a simple nod as a response as that bold and spicy smell filled her nostrils. He got a little whiff of her's too. "You smell so nice." He said planting his face on her hair and now he took in her shampoo, or maybe she had naturally sweet smelling hair. It was like peaches and strawberries, only stronger and more intoxicating than her body spray,

"Who! how strong are those pony tails back home?" Steel asked but rather than answer him; Sunset, without waiting for a another second, pressed her lips firmly against his in another passionate kiss. her eyes began to literally light up at this, in that green lime glow and her wings and long horn shimmered as if made of auras of pure heavenly light. "That felt...really nice." He said as he began to sit on her queen sized bed and Sunset began to giggle after he said that.
