Former detective Mike Chen was among many who were "raptured" to Equestria years ago. He was forced to live in the squalor of Canterlot's 'Human Ghetto', where he hopes to one day make a better life for himself and Danisha "Danni" Wiley, his teenage apprentice for his private investigation business.

One day, a member of the Crystal Empire royal guard offers him a chance to live in the Crystal Empire, where humans and ponies live together in harmony and equality.

But, there's a catch, which involves an expedition to find the missing heir to the Crystal Empire Throne.
