To you who have found this letter, there is something I must tell. I have come into position of information which, while putting my life at risk, may save countless innocents. I have discovered that the Changelings, led by Queen Chrysalis, are not what they seem. Allow me to elaborate.
Millennia ago, before the birth of Luna and Celestia and the disappearance of the Alicorns, Changelings and ponies lived together in harmony. Sharing love with one another, they sustained themselves and others. During this time, Changelings looked very different from what they do in present day, looking less like flies or beetles, and more like the faeries of ancient mythology. I speculate that they were what inspired these tales in the first place.
However one day, a horrible incident occurred. A changeling had absorbed all the love from a pony, leaving them an emotionless husk. While the changeling was banished from the realm, it was not the end of the issue. For the changeling had become addicted to the love that they had absorbed, and during their time in exile, had begun to trick others into the addiction as well. These Changelings had begun to twist and warp, to reflect their growing incapacity to share love. Holes formed on their bodies and their colours drained. The changeling that had coursed this proclaimed herself their Queen and later returned to her former home with her new corrupted army. While King Thorn and the remaining untainted changelings fought back, it was sadly in vain, and all were eventually wiped out.
That land is now desolate and devoid of life, drained by the ones that live there. As I write this letter, I have been on the run from the poor descendants of these corrupted Changelings. Their queen has learnt of my research into the ancient past and of my knowledge about their true forms. Understandably, she doesn’t want this knowledge known, especially by her followers. She has deemed me a threat, and has sent her spies and soldiers after me. At this time I have been on the run for almost a week.
Dearest reader, although chances are that we never have and never will meet, I have a favour to ask of you. If, by chance, you meet a Changeling in your town, your home, or your community, please don’t react with the fear and detest that our history and society has so instilled. Instead, welcome them with open hooves, open your heart and mind to them freely, and give them the chance to reclaim that which was so cruelly stolen from them.
Yours Truly
Royal Historian
