The Flight of the broken.

This is from someone who has lived with a disability all their life. I was always told you can't do it..When you can.

The wish of flight.
"Pain from the endless ability to non-disability. No path can be stopped even for those in need."
It was a calm cool evening in September. In a house in ponyville, a happy sound is playing. The mane six and the two CMC are waiting for Spike to return with Scootaloo. He went shopping with her as a way to keep her out of the house. On the way back to her home she walks along the ageing dragon. Who has no wings... But is almost bigger than she is. "Spike...." She said softly looking to the dragon. Who looked down at her with a soft gentle smile.
"Yes, Scoots everything alright?"
The young pegasus looked up at him with a smile but then a frown. "I'm scared... my wings haven't grown in. Do you think... They will ever grow in?"
The dragon smiled showing his sharp teeth. "Scoots...you worry too much... someday you will be able to fly... You need to not worry... You got that cutie mark of yours to prove that you can do anything even if you put your mind to it." He said showing his teeth. Scoots smiled softly looking to her hooves and then back up to Spike.
"I thank you for being such a good friend Spike..." She smiled and they got to her house. That was given to her when... Her parents left to go back to Cloudsdale. Scootaloo went into the house and everypony yelled "Surprise". Pinkie Jumping around singing her birthday song. Scoots smiled and sat at the table with her friends.
"Scoots open your presents!!" Sweetie belle jumped up and down happily. As Scoots started to do that... She got a brand new Scooter Apples from of course Apple Bloom and Applejack. A dress from Rarity. A book from Twilight, balloons from Pinkie Pie. Rainbow Dash basically a hug.
"Make a wish little sis." Rainbow smiled sweetly to her. Scoots looked to the cake and smiled softly closing her eyes. She had a wish opening her eyes a moment looking to her small wings. Her dream was to fly. She blew the candles out on the cake. Closing her eyes again... But she knew her wish would never happen. She was be grounded forever in her heart. She sighed but then opened them up and smiled at her friends.
"Right... everypony lets party!!" Pinkie yelled
Everypony started to dance while Scoots sat alone. Looking at her friends and her older adopted sister. She wanted to fly on Rainbow Dash. Sighing and stood up onto her hooves and went to her two best friends and started to dance with them. As she laughed knowing... Someday they may not be together... Even if they have the same cutie marks. Even with the same Cutie marks, they may never always be together. Someday they will either move away or something will happen. But for now, she shall stay with her friends and her family.

Later that night.
Everypony went home and Scoots spent most of the rest of the night cleaning up. Then layed in her bed and fell asleep. But after she woke up a blue pegasus with a pink tail and Mane was on her floor passed out. She blinked and jumped out of bed and went to get some water and gave it for the Pegasus to drink. Who opened her eyes and drank it. A soft voice spoke from the Pegasus.
"Did.... we.... win?" She then passed out. Scoots placed the pegasus on her bed and allowed her to use it... To let her rest. Then went to lay on her couch and fell asleep not sure what happened.

The next morning
Scoots opened her eyes seeing the mare looking at her and she jumped off the couch and stood her ground. "Who are you?!" Scoots asked.
The pink eyed mare looked and looked at her wings and flapped them a moment and then looked back. "Windwhisler do you have any idea where I am at? I remember fighting Grogar with my friends a bell rang... Then I ended up here." Scoots blinked looking at the mare seeing her wings and then looked at her own and her head dropped.
Windwhisler calmly looked at Scoots wings. "Hmm it seems the wings... never grew... Even so... I can still show you how to fly... To get them strong and make them grow as well. But that would take time." Scoots eyes went wide she wants to fly was all she could think of. She didn't care how much she got hurt... She needed to fly but she felt she was dreaming... She felt this was a dream...
She spent more of her time with the blue mare working on flapping her short wings and doing what she was told to do. "That's it keep flapping give yourself the choice to fly. You can be the best flyer in the world... You just need to believe in yourself don't give up don't allow yourself to fall. You will beat the ones telling you... Because of your wings... that you will never fly. You tell them otherwise... You show them up you beat that into their minds... That one like you can be a flyer."
She kept listening and flapping and jumping, flapping kept doing what she was asked to do. She worked so hard to try to prove it to herself that she can fly even with the small wings. But she had to train to make sure she was ready. After awhile WindWhisler left to get something to eat. Rainbow Dash showed up and blinked.
"Hey, Scoots what are you doing? Why are you doing all this?"
She looked up to Rainbow and smile. "I am being trained to fly. I will learn to fly."
Rainbow looked worried she was worried that Scoots will fall and then fail and then hate herself for the rest of her life. But she gave a smile. "I am sure you can someday Scoots but doing all this won't work. You need to come with me the others miss you."
Scoots looked up a bit angry. "I will come when I can fly. I will be there later Dash." Dash blinked nodding and calmly flew off and after she left Windwhisler came back and smiled.
"Now stretch your legs a bit and allow your back to not be stiff and remember I will tell you when it is time to soar."

Next day.
Apple Bloom and Sweetie belle came upon seeing Scoots flapping her wings to try to fly. She wasn't even lifting herself off the ground the first one to speak was Bloom...
"Uh... Scoots? What in the hay are you doing?"
Scoots looked up and blinks. "I am training myself so I can fly."
Sweetie blinks and looked back on when she tried and tried and almost hurt herself. "Scoots... I think you shouldn't do it... You know that you have tried so much and you should just give up on it and don't give your hopes up."
She looked up tears forming in her eyes. Were her friends right? She looked down and then back up to them... "I need to be alone for a bit." She trotted off, tears falling from her eyes. She started to think they were right... She will never fly... She will never get her dream. Of flying with Rainbow Dash...
While she wallowed in pity, Windwhisler calmly walked up. "Scoots don't listen to what others say... They try to understand your issue your need that you need to train those muscles in your wings... To fly and soar with the clouds. Stop doubting yourself and prove that you aren't the broken one."
Scoots calmly looked up and started to get angry. "OH!! What do you know? You can fly!!!" She got angry and looked down at the ground.
Windwhisler softly sighs and wrapped a hoof around her. "The land I am from...there are many creatures that have issues like this Scootaloo it's best to prove to yourself and to everyone around you... That you don't need to be pitied that you can beat the view that others have on you. You could have an issue reading. You could have an issue expressing how you feel. You could be in a wheelchair not able to walk. You could even not have the ability to hear... even so... You will be amazing you will do amazing things. You just need to convince them and show them you can do it."
Scoots looked up to the older mare and nodded and started up her training again.

Failure
Scoots have called all her friends and the mane six. She stood on the edge of a cliff and looked right to their faces and smiled. "My friends I wish to prove it to you... That I can fly... That I will never stay grounded... Will you let me?" They look at each other and Fluttershy softly said.
"Okay." The others nodded and Rainbow was ready to catch her. As soon as Scoots jumped off the ledge she would try to flap her wings... But it wasn't working she was getting too close to the ground and screaming. But she was caught not by Rainbow but by Windwhisler. Who carried her away from the others. They called for her and looked for her.

Failing is the first step.
Windwhisler helped the crying young mare off her and sighed. "You need to expand your wings out and flap with a rhythm. You can't just jump you need to be ready and you weren't ready." Scoots kept sobbing and Windwhisler sighed and hugged her and stroked her back. "Nothing ever will come easy failing is the first step in the long run of becoming what you wish to become... Free of what they call you... Free of getting what they call help. I know they mean well... But you can do it..."
Scoots looked into the eyes of the older mare and nodded. She started training again and would prove herself again in a few days. But she worked for months on this... Everyday she took time doing her training and her friends and her family got worried about her. She did this so much she would eat, sleep and train her wings.

Becoming remade is not easy.
"Becoming someone that can live with a disability for all your life is not easy... You will still have issues at times flying. But if you can do it once... Then you can prove that you can do it to everypony else. But remember don't allow others to tell you. That you can't do it... You think to yourself you can do it... YOU can do it... You may fail you may get hurt... You may not be able to face yourself for many months and so on... You can do it. Now you have been training for a long time. You will still falter but you will not fail, go to the cliff, call your friends and then... become what you wish."
Scoots looked up and nodded she had some scars on her body from many times of trying. She knew she would but she didn't stop.

Guardians are everywhere.
After almost a year... Scoots had been training with this pony that always vanished when her friends showed up. They got worried again that she had been training again and Rarity being the normal pony she always is tried to talk her out of it. "Oh, Darling sweetie... you know you won't be able to do this you know it will not be easy for you... You should just give up."
Scoots blinked as another spoke up.
"She is right Sugercube." Applejack said and smile softly.
Scoots kept hearing it getting angrier. All the negative all the hearsay that she can't do it.
"Enough...." She said softly as another spoke out, it was Twilight.
"Your ability to fly is just not in the math Scootaloo."
"I feel it... it's not right for you." Fluttershy softly said.
Scoots was getting very angry.
Then her friends spoke up.
"I agree with my sister Scoots..." Sweetie Belle nods. "Same..."
Then Rainbow Dash spoke up. "You can't be like me, my little sister... I know you wish to be but you never can be. I know you want to be a wonderbolt like me as well. But you need to give up for now and maybe they will find magic to help you."
Scoots opened her eyes wide and felt her anger boil.
"ENOUGH!!!!" She yelled and they stared at her.
"I am done... being helpless I am done feeling that I am worthless... I want to do this I want to prove this... To all with disabilities everywhere to all those that need to prove they can do it!!"
She stood at the edge and remembered what she was taught. She closed her eyes and then expanded her wings and took the leap. Her mind full of she can do this... she can do this!! She fell through the sky and kept saying to herself she can do this and she started to flap and lifted in the air and started to do what she dreamed... It may not be the best of course... But she started to fly.
It wasn't amazing or anything, she wouldn't be performing loops yet... But she did the first stretch and now if she can keep believing in herself and keep doing what she is doing... She will be able to fly and do what she loves. She landed back on the cliff and everypony looked at her in disbelief and she got hugs and many shouts of happiness from her friends.
"YOU DID IT!!" Rainbow yelled and... she started to realise what she said to her... "I am sorry.... Scoots..."

Many years later.
Rainbow dash was old and retired she stood at a line of newly recruited wonderbolts. At the end, she found Scoots who had a smile on her face. Then with a gentle smile as she stared at her little sister. So proud of her that she trained to do this... After so many years. Before she passed on she would see this happen. With so much proof on the line. She looked at the clipboard and smiled to Scoots.
"You're in kid..."
Scoots blinked and smiled widely and flew into the air cheering and it was new to how things are run there... but she felt it was right to let Scoots enjoy her time because she has a long way ahead of her to train to become herself again. Scoots remembered the mare that did this for her. She looked at a cloud that was shaped of Winderwhisler's head. She closed her eyes and thanked her Guardian angel.
For those that have been told all their lives with Disabilities that they can't do it... Look at those who have done so much... If Scoots can do it... You can do it too... All you got to do is believe you can. Don't allow the world to tell you differently don't allow your friends to tell you no.
For those that wish to fly you need to just train all you can... It won't come easy but then you become what you wish to become. To all that wish to do it... Fly... and become what you wish to become...
