A Rainbow-Filled Night
Soarin walks out of the locker room, a towel over his shoulder as he wipes the rest of the sweat that is on his head.
“Today was tough. I can’t believe I made it through all of that,” Soarin said with a sigh of relief.
Rainbow nodded, “Yeah, out of all the hard training we do, I can’t believe they made us do all that extra practice.”
Soarin nudges the mare. “You did really well out there, Crash.”
Rainbow nudges back, “I thought you got over the ‘crash’ thing!”
Soarin chuckles, “I like that nickname for you though.”
Rainbow sighs, “You remember the other wonderbolts calling me Rainbow Crash!”
Soarin looks down to the ground and runs his hoof through it, “Yeah…”
Rainbow looks up, “Maybe, I should just let that go. It’s history.”
Soarin looks up to the cyan mare, “Yeah.” He feels a chill go down his back. He looks over to Rainbow and notices her as she shivers. In which he decides to put a wing over her.
Rainbow, now blushing slightly, “Soarin? You are one of the reasons I feel so confident, the reason I like these practices, because you are there with me, and also, keep me warm when the cold breeze comes in, just like now.”
This comment cracks a smile from the sky blue Pegasus, “I’m glad to hear that.” He blushes a little, but very faintly.
Rainbow starts packing, “Well, as much as I would love to hang out and chat, I probably should start heading back home.”
Soarin nods, “Same. Besides, I’m more tired than usual.” The two of them both take off their uniforms.
As the two pegasi finish packing up, Rainbow starts thinking in her head, “Is this a good idea? Is he going to like this?”
Soarin looks over to Rainbow Dash, who now has a nervous look on her face, “You alright, Rainbow?”
Rainbow nods, “Yeah, I’m fine...”
Soarin, not falling for it, “Are you sure? You know you can talk to me about anything that is bugging you.”
Rainbow looks up to him with nervous eye, “I know, but…”
Soarin replies, “Come on.”
He nudges her, she giggles, “Okay, okay. I’m just nervous that we might get all those extra exercises again.”
Soarin shakes his head, “I’m not falling for it, it’s something else.”
Rainbow, now slightly embarrassed, “Look, can we please not discuss this, it’s a personal issue.”
Soarin nods, “I understand. Like I said, though, if you need to talk to me, you know where to find me.”
Rainbow gets up, and hugs Soarin, “Thanks, I appreciate it.”
Soarin hugs back, “No problem.”
The two pegasi finish packing up and go their separate ways.
--Rainbow’s perspective--
As Rainbow approaches her home in Ponyville. She land on her cloud home and walks into her home and throws her things on the couch along with herself. She lets out a sigh of relief and content.
“Finally, home.”
After laying down for a little bit Rainbow gets up to feed Tank, her pet turtle. She smiles as she watches him eat. While watching Tank eat, her stomach growls, triggering her to go into the kitchen and find something to eat herself. She looks in her fridge to find that it’s empty.
She shakes her hoof and growls, “BUCK!” Considering how hungry she really feels, she decides to head down to Sugarcube Corner.
Rainbow walks into the bakery and is greeted by Pinkie Pie at the front counter. “Dashie!”
Rainbow looks back at Pinkie, whose face is always big and bright, “Hey, Pinks, what’s up?”
Pinkie, still smiling, “Oh, not too much today. Busy as normal. Anyway, what can I get you today?”
Rainbow replies, “I would like some cherry cupcakes to go, please.”
Pinkie reaches the shelves for the cupcakes to put together for Rainbow then goes to the register, “Four bits, please.”
Rainbow reaches into her money bag and takes out the four bits and hoofs them over to Pinkie.
Pinkie waving to Rainbow Dash, “See you later, Dashie!”
Rainbow waves back, “You too, Pinkie!”
--Soarin’s Perspective--
After leaving Wonderbolt’s HQ, Soarin decided to take a slow shower. He steps into his bathroom, towel and everything, he turns on the water. He waits for it to get warm then steps in. He sighs is content as the warm water cascades over her sore and slender body.
After a few minutes of what felt like heaven, Soarin walks out of the showers, wraps his towel on, then goes to the kitchen to get some food. Digging through the fridge, he finds some leftover salad from the night before. Not letting it go to waste, he opens a drawer and grabs a fork with his hooves wrapped around it.
After having dinner Soarin trots over to his couch and picks up a Daring Do book. He takes the book into his hooves and props it up with them. As he reads the story he flips the pages with a wing. Twenty minutes into the story, he finishes the salad and decides to rest. He lays back into the couch and closes his eyes.
An hour goes by and Soarin wakes up. He stretches out his hooves and wings. As he gets off the couch, he hears a knock on his front door. Look through the peephole on the door, he sees Ditzy Doo.
He opens the door for her and she tells him, “A letter from Miss Dash!”
Soarin raises an eyebrow, “Oh, why thank you Miss Doo.” He takes the letter from her. Ditzy nods and flies off. Soarin walks back inside and starts reading the letter.
Dear Soarin,
I have a surprise for you. Please come to my house, dressed formally. Don’t ask why, please just do it. See you soon!
--Rainbow Dash
Scratching his head in confusion, Soarin thinks to himself, “I wonder why Rainbow wants me to dress formally?”
No longer questioning it, he grabs his best suit and puts it on with his wings. In no time, he’s flying to Rainbow’s house, letting the cool wind hit his face. In only a few minutes he arrives at Rainbow’s front door. Nervously, he knocks on the door. A few seconds later, the door opens to Rainbow Dash wearing a very beautiful dress. Soarin’s jaw drops straight to the floor in amazement.
Blushing slightly, Rainbow smiles at Soarin, “Do you like how I look?”
Soarin shakes himself from his thoughts, “Huh? Oh! Yes, yes I do. You look amazing.”
Rainbow’s face turns red as a cherry, “Well, thank you.” She smiles, “Please, come in.”
Soarin enters the house and turns to Rainbow, “Rainbow, why are you wearing that dress? Is there something going on?”
Rainbow closes the door and turns to Soarin, “The only thing that’s going on is me and you having dinner.”
Soarin’s face immediately turns a strawberry red, “Rainbow, are you serious? You want to have dinner with me?”
Rainbow nods and smiles at Soarin, “If I wasn’t doing this, then, why would I’ve dressed like this?”
Soarin, speechless, “I can’t imagine any other reason for you dressing like this.”
Rainbow chuckles lightly, “Well, good, then. Are you ready to go?”
Soarin nods with a big smile on his face, “Yes, yes I am.”
Rainbow smiles, with a very prominent blush, as she stands next to Soarin. Soarin, himself, blushing at the close contact. They fly off to Cloudsdale, and Rainbow decides to take him to Le Nuage. A small, fancy restaurant in uptown Cloudsdale.
After flying together slowly, they reach the restaurant. Soarin holds the door open for Rainbow, who is smiling, “Why thank you, kind sir.”
Soarin nods, “You’re welcome, madam.”
They’re then greeted by the hostess, “Welcome to Le Nuage. Do you have a reservation?”
Rainbow replies, “Yes, under the name Rainbow Dash.”
The hostess grabs a couple of menus, and leads them to what Soarin thinks is a table in the dining room. But to Soarin’s dismay, they’re lead to a table on the balcony that has a beautiful overview of Cloudsdale. The sun is just barely above the horizon. The orange and red mixing with the night sky as the moon slowly comes from the opposite side.
The beautiful sight leaves an amazed look on Soarin’s face as he takes in the breathtaking view of the scenery, “Rainbow… This is beautiful.”
Rainbow smiles, “I’m glad you think so. I figured it would be the perfect spot for tonight.”
Soarin nods, “It truly is. It’s perfect.”He smiles.
The duo take their seats as a waitress comes over, and asks them what they want to drink. They look up to the waitress and Rainbow answers first, “Water, please.”
Soarin answers next, “Arnold Palmer, please.”
The waitress finishes writing their drinks and heads to the kitchen.
The two stared at each other in silence for a few minutes, until Rainbow speaks up, “So, Soarin… did you think that this night was going to turn out like this?”
Soarin shakes his head, “I didn’t, I actually had no clue you were planning this. Is this the real reason why you were acting nervous back in the locker room, thinking I wouldn’t like this? If you were truly scared that I wouldn’t like this, well don’t be. I love this, this is truly amazing.”
Rainbow smiled widely, “Thanks. I’m so happy you’re liking this.”
Soarin smiled back, “How could I not like this? I love this!”
After a few minutes of talking, the waitress returns with their drinks and asks if they are ready for their orders, to which Rainbow replies first, “We will both have a medium salad.”
The waitress finishes writing their orders down and proceeds back to the kitchen.
Soarin looks to Rainbow, “Rainbow, thanks for the great night. I’m happy you did this.”
Rainbow smiles, “You’re quite welcome, Soarin.”
The two stare at each other again with smiles and blushes on their cheeks for a few minutes. The two slowly look away from one another to try and hide their dark red cheeks. Rainbow looks back to Soarin and takes in his full glamour. Soarin turns back and notices that Rainbow is staring at him and his blush darkens even further than before. Soarin, then, takes in the complete class of the one and only mare that is Rainbow Dash. Her flowing rainbow mane and silky smooth cyan coat which glistens in the sunset. Rainbow blushes as Soarin opens his mouth the speak, “Rainbow… You look gorgeous tonight.”
Rainbow replies with a blush, “You don’t look so bad yourself.”
After a few minutes of complementing one another, the waitress shows up with their salads.
The waitress puts the salads on the table, “Bon Appétit, you lovebirds.”
The two then start digging into their salads, during which time, Soarin hums at the deliciousness of the salad, at which, Rainbow giggles, “Good, isn’t it?”
Soarin responds by nodding, “It really is.”
After a while, they eventually slow down on their salads, to where Soarin asks, “Full?”
Rainbow nods, “Yes, as good as it is, I cannot continue.”
The waitress returns, “Would you two like a box for your salads?”
Soarin nods, “Yes, please. Also, the bill when you’re ready, please.”
A few minutes later, the waitress returns with the boxed salads, and the check.
Rainbow begins to pull out her wallet, however, Soarin immediately stops her, “You let me worry about the bill.”
Rainbow smiles at Soarin, “Thank you.”
Soarin smiled back, “It’s no problem.”
The waitress smiles, “Well, you are quite the gentleman, aren't you?” Soarin blushes and nods.
The two grab their leftovers and leave the restaurant, waving goodbye to the hostess.
As they leave the restaurant, Soarin holds the door open for Rainbow who smiles to him, "Thank you very much, sir.
Soarin smiles back, "You're very welcome, madam."
As they are preparing to go their separate ways, Rainbow stops Soarin and asks him a question with a serious, yet nervous expression on her face, "Soarin, do you know why I did this for us? I did it for you, you make me feel happy, feel confident, and you have taught me to be the strong and tough pony I am today. I can't thank you enough for all you've done for me. I really appreciate it."
Soarin's cheeks blush very dark red, "You're welcome Rainbow. I'm glad to know you too. I cannot thank you enough for this dinner, and being a great friend."
Rainbow's cheek blush red as well, "You know, before we call it a night, there's one last thing I would like to do."
Soarin's face turns to curiousness, "What is it?"
Rainbow blushes furiously, “C-can… I-I have a k-kiss?”
The question makes Soarin freeze, “W-what?”
“You know… A kiss…”
Soarin replies, “I… Yes.”
“I understand if- What?”
Soarin repeats himself, “I said yes.” He blushes furiously.
Rainbow presses her lips to Soarin whose eyes pop wide open in surprise then close as he wraps his arms around Rainbow and returns the kiss back. The kiss lasted for what seemed like hours. This night proved they loved each other and they knew that their relationship was going to last a very long time.
