As taught in the standard curriculum of magic history, the discovery of blood magic during the era of the Three Tribes is credited to a battlefield medic by the name of Crimson Wave. Practiced as an art of medicine, it saved many lives otherwise doomed by battle wounds. A decade before Unification, an unknown unicorn soldier turned blood magic into a weapon. His results on the battlefield were so gruesomely efficient that the art was forbidden, and the Blood Purge was enacted by Princess Platinum's Royal Inquisiton. Most, if not all practitioners of the art were thought to be exterminated, however a number of mages, as well as Crimson Wave's own texts, vanished without a trace.

Throughout the millennium of Princess Celestia's reign, countless circles of blood magi have risen and fallen. The one thing all of the insurrections had in common was mention of a mysterious text that vanished with a group's leader. Practitioners always declared the same thing at their executions. "Blood mages will never truly die so long as a pony bleeds."

Every day is a struggle for Red Wrap. As a blood mage of no ill-intent, trouble always has a way of finding him if he doesn't find it first. Hunted by a royal inquisitor for what he is, rather than anything he's actually done, Red is forever on the road. There are only so many places in Equestria he can hide before his fate catches him, however, and an inquisitor isn't the only thing following in his wake.
