Sunlit Quarts, a medium blue percipient earthpony, with a for habit dreaming, and looking to the future. On this day in particular, Sunlit Quarts sat at the library, reading his book and doing what he usually did: fantasizing about being a unicorn, and using magic. Twilight chuckled, watching him.
"You know you should make some friends, it's a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming..." Twilight said to him, looking out the window. "On days like these, foals like you should be playing outside."
"Yeah yeah, I've heard your spiel before," Sunlit groaned. "Friendship is magic, and all that." He waved a hoof dismissively.
"It did save Equestria." Twilight said.
"Fiiiiiiine..." he groaned, closing his book and getting up. Ready to take a walk around town.
After leaving the castle library, he just walked, soon reaching a construction site. Like any curious foal, he walked on to it. For some reason beyond his comprehension, he turned his head, and noticed a mound of dirt. He meandered over to it. A single idea filled his mind: something's under there. Pushing dirt around yielded little, until his hooves struck something mettle.
"Huh?" He exclaimed, confused. Must be some tool or something. Pushing away more dirt, revealed the object to be a cube. This cube was incredibly ornate, being made of... "I... don't know this." That's not right, earth ponies know the earth, that's practically all their good for, so why can't he read this box like any other gem? He thought to himself. It was made from some sort of gem, all the way through, with pure gold inlay-ed on the corners, and in diamond patterns on it's faces. 'Wait, I called it a box... it doesn't look anything like a box, so how do I know that's what it is?' He decided to take it to Twilight, so he put the strange box in his pocket. He looked around at the construction going on, noting the many things: the workers, their tools... that metal beam heading straight for him! The beam swung at him, and a few other workers, they screamed, and Sunlit held his hooves up (as if that would stop it). Suddenly, a weight... a force, was on his hooves and mind... He opened his eyes and saw the beam, frozen in midair in front of him. When he looked, he noticed there wasn't a magic aura surrounding it.
'That's impossible!' He thought. 'There's no way... could I be holding the beam?' There was an easy way to find out. He pushed his hooves forward, his hooves straining, and the beam swung back up, and it fell back into place. As soon as the beam secured itself the weight was gone, and an extreme exhaustion settled on Sunlit. He then fell over, barely managing to stay awake.
Meanwhile, two beings in very different locations felt this. They nodded, and began to approach the town, and Sunlit Quartz.
"It was amazing!" Sunlit exclaimed. Twilight (not to mention his mother Sunlit Valley) looked worried.
"Um..." Sunlit's mother looked at Twilight for support.
"I'm sorry to say," Twilight began. "I know you really want to use unicorn magic, but earth ponies just can't do it. You can do wonderful things, but pushing a metal beam with your mind just isn't one of them." Sunlit looked distraught.
"But I did move it! The construction workers saw it!" He shouted.
"That's enough." Sunlit's mother said, sounding very frustrated with her son. "I was fine with you reading about it, but now you're having delusions. How did you even cast the spell anyway?"
"I just... pushed." Sunlit said, making the motion with his hooves, only for nothing to happen.
"Pushed, you say?" A voice called out. Everyone turned to see a cloaked figure approaching. "Opened yourself, you have today."
"Ze-... Zecora?" He asked, even though something in him already knew... it must be from her rhyming. Who else does that?
"Hey Zecora, it's good to see you." Twilight said. "Could you-"
"While I'd love to stay and chat, we have more important matters, to attack." Zecora interrupted the alicorn. "While on that side, you found a artifact- or rather... new power, to be exact." Stunned, Sunlit pulled the cube from his pocket.
"What... is that?" Sunlit's mother asked. Twilight frowned at the object. Something about it wasn't right...
"In all the visions, I have seen, never before would I believe... you found a holocron! I thought they were, all but gone!" Zecora gasped.
"A holocron... it's a box, right? What's inside?" Sunlit asked. Zecora giggled.
"Your instincts serve you well, but first a story I must tell. It starts, a long time ago..."
