An Unforseen Fate
Aftermath
Load Full StoryI woke up and noticed that I wasn't outside. Ah, I had a splitting headache as I moved my head. I looked around and saw Spike resting on a chair. He woke up and looked over to me, crying. He jumped up and hugged me.
"Twilight! Thank Celestia you're finally awake! I was really worried that you wouldn't wake up!" He yelled, crying.
His voice was trembling in both excitement and terror and my ears were ringing as he yelled. Still, I smiled and rubber his head. After a few seconds, he moved back a little and I sat up on the bed. My body aching in the process.
"I'm alright, Spike," I said, softly.
My mouth felt dry, my throat was sore and my voice felt rusty from speaking, but despite that, I tried to give him a reassuring smile. It didn't seem to work as he looked at me with sadness in his eyes.
"What's wrong, Spike?" I asked.
He didn't say anything and continued to stare at me for a while. His lips pressed in a thin, trembling line. He opened his mouth like he was about to speak but instead of words, a loud sob came out, followed by a fat tears streaming down his face. He threw himself on me, rubbing snot and tears all over my shoulders. After a few seconds of crying, he spoke.
"You were badly injured after your fight with Tirek! We rushed you to the hospital and you were fading in and out of consciousness! You been out cold for three days! I really thought you were going to die!" He yelled, still sobbing.
I was taken back by what he said. I wanted to say something, anything but no words would come out. A ride of regret swelled in my chest as he continued to cry. It was then I realize the bandages on me and was in a hospital gown. I looked down and saw the top of his head, his scaly head. It looked as he hadn't clean himself in days and could spot the dirt in his scales. I reached on his head and patted him, removing some of the dirt. He sniffed again, varying his head further into my shoulder.
I wasn't aware that any of that happen and have little memory of it. The last thing I remember is fighting Tirek and then... everything is a haze from that point. I didn't know I was close to dying either. It never crossed my mind when it came to that. I didn't want to die and the though of it paralyzed me with fear. I would be leaving my friends and family behind had I died that day. This must have put a great strain on Spike along with my friends. Hanging my head, I closed my eyes and let out a quiet sigh. My muzzle brushed up on his head as I did that.
"I'm sorry, Spike. I didn't mean to make you worry," I whispered.
He continued to whimper and I brought my hooves around him in spite of the aching pain it caused me. He was hugging me tightly which was also painful but I didn't say anything. The warmth of his body felt like I could fall right back asleep. With my hooves around him and my muzzle resting on his head. It was a fleeting sensation though as my stomach suddenly rumbled loudly. I blushed as that happen and it caused Spike to giggle which then changed to a full blown laughter. I started to laugh as well although, it hurt a little. We continued through for a few more seconds until we both were flustered and breathless.
He backed up after that, rubbing his nose with the back of his claws. His face was red and stained with tears but, he was smiling now. I felt lighter, happen now. In a way, I was relieved.
"Where's everypony else? I asked.
"They were here earlier but had to leave to help fix the damage around Ponyville. Oh, I just remembered something. We made something just for you. I'll go get it!" He said, bolting out of the room.
I was about to ask what it was but he was gone before I could speak. Realizing I was alone now, I examined the room and only now did I fully realize I was in a empty room. It felt... cold, lifeless in here. I smiled and knew I owed them an apology for leaving them to clean up the damage. I'll have to make it up to them somehow... As I finished that thought, I saw somepony come in. It was one of the nurses and she smiled.
"Oh good, your're awake," She said, smiling.
"Yes, I just woke up a bit ago," I said, removing the blanket off me.
I tried to move some more but it hurt to do so. Has it really been three days since then? I pondered on that as the nurse looked at me.
"Have I really been here for three days?" I asked, still surprised.
She nodded. I frowned a little as she said that.
"Who brought me here?" I asked.
She grabbed a clipboard and looked at it. After a few seconds, she answered.
"I didn't catch their names but a few ponies along with a baby dragon were the ones who brought you here," She replied.
I can safely say she was referring to my friends and Spike. First my friends risked their necks to save me now I'm stuck here, not being able to help them clean up. Some friend I am, right...? I lowered my head in defeat as I realized how useless I look right now.
"What happen to me when I got here?" I asked.
Before she could answer, Spike returned, holding what appeared to be a present. He handed it to me and smiled.
"We put it together while you were here," He said.
I moved it over to me and unwrapped it with my magic. I looked inside and saw one of burned book along with a photo portrait of me and the rest of my friends. The paper itself was slightly burned and looked to be made from the ground up but I didn't mind.
"I know it's not much but--"
"Spike, it's perfect," I said, smiling.
He hugged me as I said that.
"Twilight... Can you promise me one thing?" He asked.
"Sure, what is it?" I asked.
"Promise me you won't bite off more than you can chew from now on, ok?" He asked.
"Spike..." I said, trying to brush it off.
"Promise!" He yelled.
I sighed as I saw how serious he was about this. It was obvious he wasn't backing down. Defeated, my lips curved into a smile. I looked directly at him and said,
"I promise."
