I flicked my dry dirty wings, the dust from them flying into the air. My breath spiralled around me. I relaxed slightly into the cloud I was lying. Below me was the huge expanse of Cloudsdale. My lean legs throbbed slightly and I shifted. Around me the sky was a beautiful diamond colour. I sighed softly and closed my eyes. Even this deep in Autumn the sun was still warm on my face. My heart beat in a steady rhythmic pattern and a small smile touched my face.
"Shadow!" A loud voice shattered my peace and I opened my eyes to see the face of my twin. Her golden eyes were bright and her body positively glowed.
"Hey Melody." I muttered. She looked at me and the glow from her body faded slightly.
"How are you so grumpy. Today's the big day!" I glance at her face and there's a huge grin covering it. 'What big day?' I thought, my eyes closing again. With a start I jumped up.
"It's that day!" I started pacing the small cloud. The esteemed Wonderbolt Rainbow Dash was coming to our house. She was looking for an applicants for her new academy in Ponyville. There had been a huge ad in the paper about how Ms Dash was looking for the "best most awesome young fliers in equestrian!" I leaped of the cloud and into the air. This could be my chance! After so many times I had to practice just to be a companion for my sister it was finally my chance to shine!
I started looping in the air and whooping. The wind hit my face and blew my hair back. I twirled round a few times. My sister flew up to me. Side by side we flew across the azure sky. I watched her gold tipped wings flutter.
Looking at my sister I didn't notice the solid mass in front of me and I flew right into my father. He looked at mine and my sisters glee. His big bushy eyebrows furrowed.
"Shadow can I talk to you?" I looked at my sister questionably and she just shrugged and took off back into the sky. I turned my gaze back to my father. He looked at me with a confused expression on his face. A confused expression which quickly turned to one of understanding.
"Look Shadow I've been meaning to talk to you." He took a deep breath. "You are not performing in front of Ms Dash."
I felt my grin slip off my face and my stomach plummeted. I felt tears sting my eyes. My father continued not realising my in turmoil. "Ms Dash is looking for the best young fliers in Equestria- Your just not good enough. Besides this is Melodies time to shine. She should be able to do that without you ruining my performance."
I let out a weak sniff. My father glared at me. "Oh stop being a baby! Do you know how much Melody and I have sacrificed to help you? Stop being selfish." With that my father shot off to prepare for Ms Dash's arrival, leaving me to stare at him.
I collapsed onto the nearest cloud sobbing. My one chance. Oh why was I so hopeful? My name is Whispered Shadow for Celestia's sake. I'm never going to go anywhere with that as my name. I stayed there crying into the cloud until it turned into a black raincloud. There I lay until my tears turned into sniffles.
I stayed on the cloud staring blankly at the all to cheerful sky. The sun was still shining like nothing was wrong and the sky was amazingly blue. My eyes eventually rested to the sky I was flying in earlier. I squinted and I could just make out a rainbow and white shape in the distance. Look's like my sister was starting the trial I could never have. I sighed. I had no tears left. I looked away and continued staring at the blue abyss that was the sky.
