Chapter 10: So What Now?

“So what now?” asked Soarin, looking at Ashleigh in confusion. “I have no idea what to do since I’m so new at this…”

Ashleigh smiled. “It’s okay, I’ve never been in a relationship either. It’s gonna be a little tricky. Just go with your instincts. And be more dominant. You need to not be so timid around me. I tend to like the idea of a relationship with a strong partner”

Soarin nodded. “Stronger, got it.”

“So where do you want to go to eat?” Ashleigh asked, kissing him on the cheek.

Soarin remembered what she said about being a strong partner. “Well, there’s this one place we passed that kind of looked good. It was a spaghetti joint. Is that okay with you?”

Ashleigh nodded. “I’m okay with it if you are.”

Soarin grinned. “Awesome! Do you want to go now?”

Ashleigh nodded. “Sure!” she giggled. “One last kiss before we go?” she asked grinning, a little embarrassment in her voice.

Soarin grinned and climbed up to face her , before pressing his lips to hers, pushing her head back a little. “Ready to go?”

“Definitely.”

The two finally left for the restaurant, where they enjoyed a relishing meal.

“So…” Soarin said as he took a bite. “Is your food good?”

“Mm-hm!” Ashleigh said, nibbling her spaghetti.

Soarin chuckled. “All right! This place is good.”

Ashleigh suddenly thought of something that she hadn’t thought of since they had shared their first kiss.

What will happen when I have to leave to go home?

The thought stayed with her for the rest of the date, as they left and began walking in the moonlight. It stayed with her as the two walked alone, until finally Ashleigh couldn’t leave it there any longer.

“What happens when I leave?”

Soarin froze and looked at her for a moment. “I-I don’t know. We should think about that later.”

Ashleigh shook her head. “No Soarin. We need to talk about it now.”

Soarin shuddered in fear. “I don’t want to. I don’t want to think about leaving you.”

Ashleigh kissed him. “I don’t want to either, but we have to think about it.”

Soarin cursed silently. “Why did I have to tell you I liked you? Why did I kiss you? Why did I have to ask you out on a date?”

Ashleigh smiled. “Because you love me.”

Soarin nodded. “I do.”

He then grabbed her hand, letting their gazes meet. “Whatever happens tomorrow, if you find a way back, I just hope you don’t forget me.”

“I never will.”

Soarin let out a yawn, unfurling his wing from where it had been, around Ashleigh. It was a new day, perhaps the final day he would ever see Ashleigh. The thought of losing the person he was growing to love was agonizing. Maybe they hadn’t known each other long, but that time had been spent together in the perfect way.

“Ashleigh.” he said, giving her a kiss on the cheek and brushing a wing over her to wake her. She let out a gentle sigh and opened her eyes.

“Morning already?” she asked, yawning.

Soarin nodded. “Yep. Time to see Celestia.”

Ashleigh shook her head and pulled her arms tighter around Soarin. “Five more minutes.” she pleaded, her soft breath tingling Soarin’s neck. “This is the last day I get to cuddle with my favorite guy.”

Soarin shuddered. “Maybe it’s not the last day.”

“Maybe it is.”

Soarin and Ashleigh walked alongside guards towards the castle. Anxiety gripped the two as they wondered what the outcome would be, but nothing was spoken as they looked at each other. The two stopped at the top of the entrance to the castle. Canterlot was below, its shining roofs and the fields were seen branching off of where the village was. Suddenly, the door to the castle opened, and a guard walked out.

“The princess will now see you!” he shouted.

Ashleigh looked at Soarin. “Ready?”

“Yes.”
