bitmakers past life

1Bit Maker was born at the apex of the Mythical War, to a black pegasus mare with a fiery red mane and tail named High Flyer, a general in the Royal Guard, and a unicorn stallion with a blue coat and a light yellow mane and tail named Dusk Blitz, an aspiring space-time scientist under the direct supervision of Doctor Whooves and Princess Celestia. At first, his parents loved him dearly, but during the events of Nightmare Moon’s resurgence, a foul curse was placed on him that would force the hands of time itself to stop for him and him alone, which meant he would stand and watch as the ravages of time destroyed everything around him.

When his parents found out about his curse from a zebra named Zecora during a routine medical checkup at the age of two, they wanted nothing to do with him, abandoning him in Ponyville. Ironically, they were then killed during the events of Discord’s escape the next day. With great luck and guided by spirits from the Third Realm, he managed to make his way to Manehattan before collapsing on the cold winter ground, where the dean of the Hearts and Hooves Orphanage there found and took him in.

For the next year, he was raised by the dean as he learned to fit in among the outcast society that was the orphanage, quickly making friends due to his upbeat attitude. When the time came for adoption, though, no one wanted him. The dean was forced to kick him out, at which point he started learning how to fend for himself

At the age of five, he was given a chance in the form of an apprenticeship offer to a grizzled blacksmith in Vanhoover, on the condition that he attend primary and secondary school before his apprenticeship began. Not seeing any other option at the time, the young, rambunctious filly took a chance and accepted the offer.

Upon his arrival in Vanhoover, he was introduced to Split Ingot, his new master, and his son, Forged Pride, who was a high-ranking officer in the Royal Guard, both of whom helped him to settle in. Seeing as how the two were the first real authority figures in his life, having not known his parents well at all, Bit looked up to Ingot as a father and Pride as an older brother.

Upon his completion of secondary school, Bit began to work under Ingot as his two-year apprenticeship began, learning many thing from him. One day, while working metal at the forge a year and a half into his apprenticeship, Pride came up to him with a personal offer from Shining Armor, the captain of the Royal Guard himself, asking that when his apprenticeship was done, he would join the Royal Guard and serve for however long he wished. Bit, being the adventurous colt he was, accepted the offer without hesitation.

A freak accident occurred a mere two weeks later when, while Bit was working the forge, his hoof slipped into the molten coals and a small piece of superheated metal flew into his eye. He was rushed to the hospital by a contingent of Royal Guards and a very distraught Ingot and Pride, where the doctors were forced to sedate the young colt and amputate his leg and remove his right eye, the damage to both irreparable.

Ingot and Pride were shocked thoroughly when the Princesses themselves paid a visit to young Bit’s hospital bed. When asked about the events, Ingot told them how he had slipped while working the forge. Celestia felt sympathy for the young colt and, already having heard of the circumstances of Shining Armor’s offer to the young colt, told the two she would do her level best to make the colt better.

Two weeks later, a prosthetic leg connected to Bit’s pegasus magic was affixed to his leg just before he woke for the first time from his ordeal. After a six-month rehabilitation period to make sure Bit could get used to the replacement leg, Celestia and Luna left to Canterlot, vowing to be back, but when asked why, they simply stated that ‘it’s a surprise.’

Three weeks after Bit began working the forge again, the Princesses came once more, and offered Bit the chance to regain his sight. Having been ostracized by most of his former friends in Vanhoover for the injuries he had received, and not wanting to deal with it anymore, he quickly accepted, at which point the Princesses took him to Canterlot.

Three months passed as experiment after experiment failed. Right when the scientists in charge of the project were ready to give up, a young scientist apprentice by the name of Shady Flask charged in with reports of a successful attempt to forge an artificial working eye. This report turned out to be true, and the next day, Bit went into the operating room and his new eye was transplanted into him and fused with his damaged optic nerves. Unfortunately, the scientists couldn’t make it a certain color, so the eye was completely black and near the center, a giant turning gear was set into the face of the construct.

Bit returned to the forge and table shortly thereafter, finishing his apprenticeship in short order, and, for all his effort throughout the two years he worked with Ingot, was rewarded with a special ancient sword forged from Starsteel, metal forged in a dying star. The same night his apprenticeship, he rescued a young filly named Rose Heart from a pair of Nightmare Moon’s scattered henchmen, who had murdered her parents hours earlier.

He knew basically how to take care of her, since he had basically lived his life the same way she would soon be living hers; however, instead of being seen as a sort of father or even brother to her, the young filly quickly developed a crush on him.

Young Bit discovered his talent when he started winning bet after bet to do crazy things most other ponies wouldn’t dare dream of, to help provide for himself and Rose, since he no longer lived with Ingot and Pride. When he finally realized what his cutie mark meant, he was elated.

A short time later, Rose earned her own cutie mark when she helped a middle-aged couple to pick their marriage back up after the stallion had nearly ended the relationship.

Two weeks after Bit’s apprenticeship ended, the next chapter of his life began as the two traveled to Canterlot to begin Bit’s Royal Guard training, Rose confessing her feelings to the poor colt.

Over the next few years, Bit slowly completed his training as the entire planet slowly fell to chaos around him. He was placed as an officer in the Guard upon the completion of his training and his and Rose’s love blossomed.

Bit slowly began to work his way up the ranks due to excellent tactical planning, exceptional intelligence and leadership skills and over four thousand hours of community service all over Equestria, astounding qualities that, in his Knight position, made him one of only ten Royal Flight Third Regiment candidates for the title of Royal Knight, a title he quickly earned.

For the next seven months he worked faithfully and diligently to Shining Armor as his newest Royal Knight, until the events of Sombra’s escape came into play. Bit was summarily promoted to de facto Captain in Shining’s absence during the crisis surrounding Shining and Cadance’s wedding.

Once more, he proved he was ready for a promotion as he sacrificed himself to rescue the two from a secluded crystal mine below Canterlot, calling his troops to battle and showing exemplary battle tactics and strategic planning. After the wedding concluded, Shining Armor himself announced to the people of Equestria of Bit Maker’s impending promotion.
