“Mother, Father, I have...um…something important to tell you: I'm gay. Mirror Gem and I have been in a relationship for the previous seven months and I love Mirror Gem as much as I love the both of you. I hope that you can accept this, because this is the path I have chosen in my life.” Silver Spoon said with determination to her reflection in the mirror. But like the forty five previous attempts, this one felt hollow and unrealistic. Dismayed, Silver groaned as she sank into her hands resting in the bathroom counter.
She had been dating Mirror for seven months now, and in that time the duo had become very close. Mirror had even driven Silver to pluck up enough courage to tell her parents she was a nudist. Yet when it came to the big reveal of her sexual preference, that strength was all but wasted. It wasn't that Silver was sure she was gay, as she knew the male anatomy gave her no reaction. Yet she wasn't sure if Mirror was genuine. Diamond Tiara had so easily manipulated Silver’s feelings for her and in the end Silver had ended up being nothing more than a pawn in Diamond's schemes.
Now Mirror was not Diamond Tiara, not by a long shot. Diamond was always full of herself and always trying to have everything be perfect and the best. Mirror didn't have the same privileged lifestyle Silver had, her parents were hard working yet they barely seemed to scrape by. So the chance at having a well-endowed lover might be a huge boost for the family. And this was Silver's biggest concern.
However if this was true, Mirror hid it well. Diamond had always been so overt in her actions and emotions that even a blind person could see though the facade. She would always tempt her victims, promising them riches in return for support and admiration. Mirror was the opposite; she was supportive, funny, smart, and very kind.
And it was this very division between the two personalities that gave Silver these doubts. It was so drastic, so uneven, and so good it couldn't be true. And yet, Silver felt something she hadn't felt before. She didn't know what it was exactly yet it was an attraction, a bond with Mirror she had never had with anyone outside of her family. If she could get to the bottom of what this was, maybe she could figure out the truth of Mirror Gem. And maybe, come out to her parents.
A knock at her bathroom door broke Silver out of her concentration. “Madam is everything alright in there?” One of the maids asked.
Silver signed, “Yes Miss Honeywood everything's fine.”
“Oh okay, it’s almost time for school, the limo is waiting out front.” Miss Honeywood answered.
“Thanks I'll be down in a moment.” Silver answered. Then with a pluck of courage Silver grabbed her robe, covered her naked body, and headed out towards her room. Walking in, she quickly found her clothing and began to get dressed for school.
While her parents had accepted her nudist lifestyle, they weren't keen on having their sixteen year old daughter walk around the house naked. So the bathrobe was a nice compromise. Silver also was allowed privacy within her room and her personal maids had been used to seeing her naked before, whenever she had just showered or was getting dressed, so that was also a good compromise.
But there were times Silver did have to wear clothing, and school was one of them. Silver got out a large sweater and some heavy jeans to help shield her from the winter weather outside as well as her undergarments and thermals. When she was properly dressed, she topped it off with her heeled boots and headed downstairs. The house was completely decked from roof to basement in Hearth's Warming decorations, many of which gave off a warm golden glow as Silver descended the long stairwell that lead from the second floor to the main one of her mansion.
The mansion was nowhere near as massive or as lavish as the Rich family, but it was perfect for the Spoons and even better for Silver. While in the past she had never appreciated it, she had come to realize now that home was where the heart was. Mirror Gem might’ve brought that out, as she had lived in a small, four bedroom house out in the suburbs. Regardless, Silver made her way through the foyer and into the house proper. Her parents were long gone, as they both had to leave for work. Silver didn’t mind, the trio had spent the morning together for breakfast. And plus, Hearth’s Warming was her father’s busiest time of the year. As she walked out the front door, a sudden realization struck her. This would be the first Hearth’s Warming she wouldn’t spend with her family, as her Father and Mother had an important business trip to take care of overseas. She had planned initially on going with them, but now she wasn’t as sure as she wanted to spend a holiday with Mirror Gem.
Then again, Silver also didn’t exactly want to stick around. And the weather outside was why. Last week Canterlot and its suburb Ponyville got nailed with two blizzards in a row, leaving a good three feet of snow on the ground. Worse, a nor'easter was only a week away and was expected to drop another two feet. While most people around the area celebrated a white winter for Hearth’s Warming, which itself was due the weekend of the nor’easter, Silver Spoon never got along with snow. She didn’t hate it she just didn’t enjoy it at all. Regardless, she put on her heavy winter coat and walked down the front steps to the front walk way that lead to the waiting silver colored limousine.
Her driver, Lance, opened the door for her and she climbed in after giving him a warm thank you. In no time at all they were once again at Canterlot High.
“Would milady like me to be back here on the normal time?” Lance asked.
Silver smiled, “That would be wonderful Lance, thank you. Be Careful driving home okay?”
“I always am milady.” he answered as Silver exited the car with her backpack.
All bundled up like Eskimo, students of CHS made their way past snow mounds and over ice patches into the school. Silver closed the limo door and was soon swept up into them as she walked. There was a biting wind that blew through the front courtyard of Canterlot High, chilling all it touched. Silver shivered at the breeze but shouldered on, she knew the school would at least have its heat blasting. And sure enough she was right. Stepping through the threshold, she was instantly met with a rush of warm and welcoming heat. Stopping at the door to kick whatever snow or salt was clinging to her boots; Silver enjoyed the sudden rush of heat. Soon enough her boots were clean and she walked inside the school, making a note to take her massive jacket off.
“Good morning Silver!” Lily Rose greeted as Silver walked in.
Silver smiled before waving back, “Good morning Lily!”
“Good morning Silver Spoon!” Featherweight waved.
“Morning Feather,” Silver waved back.
“Hey Silver, good morning!” Liberty Belle shouted from across the hall.
Silver smiled and shouted back, “Hey Libby good morning!”
Before her membership in the NLAC, and before her redemption, a morning like this would never have happened. Silver would either be met with villainous glances or ignored entirely until she met Diamond Tiara before homeroom. But things were different now. While not every student that greeted her had attended the NLAC, which only had about a sixth of the student population as its actual membership, she had worked hard to rebuild her social status. And while she no longer was a journalist for the newspaper, she had made herself useful as treasurer of the NLAC and President of the School Physics club. That, plus genuine interest in bettering student affairs, had turned the once lackey into a shining beacon for the school’s student body.
There was a slight catch however: as far as everyone outside the officer roster of the NLAC was concerned Silver Spoon and Mirror Gem were just good friends. Regardless of whatever social status the student body perceived, Silver and Mirror’s closeness wasn’t a secret and so Silver looked for Mirror as she made her way towards her locker, still shivering slightly from the outside air.
“Hey,” Mirror called out, heading towards Silver.
Mirror was wearing a purple and black zip-up hoodie with her personal insignia; neon red, almost mirror like gem, emblazoned on the right shoulder of the hoodie. She also wore a pair of deep purple colored leggings that was speckled with dots of shimmery silver, which gave the appearance of a starry night. The whole outfit was completed with a pair of black and purple heeled boots. Simply put, she looked beautiful. Silver couldn’t help but smile as she saw Mirror come over. In her hand, she was carrying a medium sized, hot mocha frappe Starebucks coffee with a peppermint syrup shot.
“Hey yourself,” Silver retorted playfully. “How did you sleep? Still worried about the history test?”
Mirror shook her head no, “I slept as well as well as I could, but you know history isn’t really my thing.”
Silver smiled, “Yeah, same here. Though I don’t think we’re going to have to worry too much. With this storm on the way I think everyone’s going to be already set in vacation mode.”
“I hope you’re right,” Mirror said in between sips of her coffee. “Because I seriously am not good with historical dates. I mean, sure history repeats itself. But not to the exact letter! Do I really need to know when Equestria and Yakyakistan went through the cold war? Like it did any damage anyhow.”
“Eh, Father always told me ‘those who don’t know history are bound to repeat it,’” Silver sighed as she and Mirror reached her locker. Opening the locker and putting her heavy jacket and backpack inside, Silver pulled out her notebooks and shivered slightly, “Oh you would think with the way the heaters are going I’d be rid of this cold by now.”
“The school in general is cold,” Mirror pointed out, shoving her tattered backpack into the locker and grabbing her binder.
“I still don’t understand how you like it so much.” Silver said to her girlfriend.
“I think it’s because I like my sweaters so much,” giggled Mirror, draining the last of her coffee into her mouth.
Silver rolled her eyes as she closed her locker, “Well regardless, I’ll be glad when this snow is all melted. At least I know mother and father will be better off than I this Hearth’s Warming.”
“Why,” asked Mirror, giving Silver a quizzing glance. “I mean, are they going away?”
Silver nodded, “Father has a business trip to deal with over in Las Pegasus to attend to and Mother has a charity function in Matterhorn World. I was going to go with my mother but now things have changed.”
“Why? Are they upset with you or giving you some space?” Mirror asked. Glancing at the digital clock above their heads, she noted that it was eight twenty seven. “We should start heading to homeroom.”
Silver nodded and the two headed off towards homeroom. “No they do not want to give me space and they’re not mad. Really it’s more of me wanting to spend time with...well...” Silver blushed.
“Who? It can’t be me. Do they have someone in particular in mind? Don’t tell me they think that you and Diamond are still friends!”
“No they know her and I are long over. I told them I would like to spend the holiday with you…” Silver paused, “But they think that it’s more of the two of us spending time together as friends rather than what we...actually are.” Silver rubbed her shoulder, her insecurities about her relationship coming to the forefront.
“So? It’s not like anything crazy will go down. Besides, they must trust me enough to leave you with me for a few days.”
“Good point,” Silver sighed, “Say...are you going to be hanging out with your family for Hearth’s Warming?”
“Like I do every year. To be honest I wouldn’t mind spending the holidays away from them for once.” Mirror admitted.
Before Silver could respond to that, the homeroom bell rang and the two said their goodbyes, stealing a kiss when they thought no one was looking. As Silver sat in her homeroom class, a thought took her mind.
If Mirror doesn’t mind getting away, maybe we could get away from this snow to someplace warm for the holidays. She thought, And if I get her alone, maybe then I can figure out the truth about her, and if she’s really sincere with me.
With that, Silver Spoon began putting together an idea.
